Prices are a pisstake for an archival print. $2000 for a variant!! How long did it take in Photoshop to change the colours!?

Jerkface, by lecastor on May 18, 2018 21:52:34 GMT 1, how long did it take to Picasso to draw his famous dove? That it took less that a minute to draw, does that make it less appealing?
Photoshop, Illustrator, and other software are just tools. No different than pencil, pen, or paint brush... I think it's what you do with them that makes the difference.

I don't think jerkface is quite in picasso's league just yet. Not sure anyone's going to pay thousands for a sketch.
The point isn't the time really, but due to the print technique, can you really charge so much for a "variant"? He could literally sit all day knocking these out in any combination of colours. It's not like they're made using any type of artistic skill, so why the huge price difference?

Artists have caught on, and are now just charging wht the secondary market would. 90% of artists we collect have started this in the last few years
That being said, I'm a fan of his, and love this image. It's a huge print, and will look fantastic framed

One has to consider that piece in the context of the body of work the artist had produced prior to it. As with many works and many artists.

Jerkface, by lecastor on May 19, 2018 0:45:28 GMT 1, exactly!!!!
experience, insight, vision, etc... I believe all these things take precedence over the tools used. Artists like Keith Harring, or Basquiat, are great examples of artists young artists, that had incredible insight, and both had the ability to translate their insight into beautiful works for art.

Jerkface, by Pavoni on May 19, 2018 8:22:59 GMT 1, how long did it take to Picasso to draw his famous dove? 80 years. That's the knowledge, right there.
The story goes that Picasso was sitting in a Paris café when an admirer approached and asked if he would do a quick sketch on a paper napkin. Picasso politely agreed, swiftly executed the work, and handed back the napkin — but not before asking for a rather significant amount of money. The admirer was shocked: “How can you ask for so much? It took you a minute to draw this!” “No”, Picasso replied, “It took me my entire life.”
P.S. I have a Jerkface Mike Tyson Punchout screenprint which I really like.
I hope it's now worth a gazillion (USD, not GBP...no need to get greedy).

Jerkface, by expresspost on May 19, 2018 9:35:03 GMT 1, If the only factor is based on painting like that ...no
But that's not how it works.
You need the rest to fall into place too...good gallery support, the gallery itself has to have solid brand, ie art fairs allocate them booths on the same floor as Gagosian, good collector support, good institution support, lots of exhibitions and the odd non-charity auction record breaker.
So right now, still a no.

Jerkface, by yatyat on May 20, 2018 11:26:47 GMT 1, Is Jerkface still represented by OTI? I remember they exhibited this Double Mickey original at last year’s Art Central Hong Kong and were asking US$25K. So is this high price strategy controlled by the artist or the gallery?

Jerkface, by brazzy on May 31, 2018 20:42:19 GMT 1, Kaws really helped usher in a whole new generation of lazy pop artists like jerkface, shelby & sandy, Greg Mike, Mr likey, etc.
TBH though, I really enjoy all of their work and would happily/proudly buy/display work from any of them. but who knows if any of it will stand the test of time. Luckily that's not the most important thing for me when collecting. And I don't ever claim to have very refined taste in art.

a) Are you suggesting the method is more important than the result?
b) How do you know photoshop was used? (more likely he is using a vector software not image editor)... and if photoshop was used (or other software), how does that diminish the result?
c) I have nothing against a healthy debate,.. but you're just trash taking. I'd submit the ignorance may be laying closer to you,.. with a little bit of arrogance, and closed mindless to boot. The guy (Jerkface) has clearly worked hard to develop his craft and style.
