Banksy, The Alternativity @ Walled Off Hotel, by Deleted on Dec 19, 2017 0:09:34 GMT 1, This is the level of discourse, a couple of witty YouTube clips. The difference is the Banksy project involved real people and real children and not fictional characters.

I take witty any day over your “I’ve not read any comments on here, so I’ve no idea on how last night’s show was received. My take is...”
Intellectual respect calls for intellectual respect. Your lack of it calls for no more than “witty YouTube clips.” Enough said.

Banksy, The Alternativity @ Walled Off Hotel, by moron on Dec 19, 2017 9:43:27 GMT 1, The docu with Danny Boyle in it was good considering it was made by the BBC. I don't know what Boyle brought to the whole thing in Bethlehem apart from his name. He never met Banksy face to face and the footage of some guy up the ladder at night spraying the cherubs stencil on the wall could have been anyone up that ladder. One good thing was that the wall got a coat of paint and that monstrosity by Lush got painted over.
The sadness in the souls of the people of Bethlehem like Wisam and the woman director is clearly etched in their faces and it's understandable they want their children protected from the reality for as long as possible.
The Zionists and their ideology comes across as barbaric and inhuman, ruthless how they regard and treat so called non Jews. The checkpoints discriminating against people based on their religious or ethnic group reminiscent of KKK USA back in the 30's and 40's. It just looks like Israel created a ghetto because they do not want to mix with non Jews who are local to the region more than for security. Ironic that all the no borders mob against Trump say nothing against Israel and doubt Fatty Ai Weiwei will criticise the wall and occupation either.

Banksy, The Alternativity @ Walled Off Hotel, by ferg on Dec 19, 2017 10:30:40 GMT 1, saw it - it was good in a good few ways. could have been broader , but i guess .. can't always get what you might want. (ironic?) the trip around the other hotel was ... for me a hi light.. in a lo light kind of way. .. as with most things - the truth is a tricky thing to .. tie down. choose life .. The only trip you’ll get around the hotel is by going there’s so much Banksy art that wasn’t shown you have to be there,

Banksy, The Alternativity @ Walled Off Hotel, by JW on Dec 19, 2017 12:16:33 GMT 1, Here's most of Banksy's all lower-case email to Danny - for anyone that cares. I couldn't see the last line. Poor old Lush is copping it from all angles - getting painted over in Bethlehem and in Melbourne. (The Melbourne council just painted over one of his pieces which has created a little bit of buzz on tele in Oz).
danny
thanks, good notes.
the play - i don’t see why we should make too much work for ourselves. i think we should change the traditional nativity as little as possible - whilst emphatically altering the message. we could maybe achieve all we need by downloading a nativity play off the internet and changing the last five lines. its almost a piece of photo montage. like if some idiot took an image of a rioter and stuck flowers in their hand.
i will absolutely be involved as much as you and rehab need me to be.
and I’m very glad we have a ‘not uncritical’ voice working with us on this.
i’ll address this trump painting and make sure the environment is right.
you’re absolutely correct that children aren’t paint, they can’t be used to create images beyond who they are, much as that sounds like it could be super manipulative and fun.
i will give more thoughts in the morning.

Banksy, The Alternativity @ Walled Off Hotel, by Winter on Dec 19, 2017 18:01:25 GMT 1, If you ever get to see the BBC 'Imagine' documentary of Danny Boyle directing the London Olympics opening ceremony it's well worth a watch. Seeing the creative process against the interference of just about everyone and everything it's staggering what he pulled off. Thought the Banksy one was very average in comparison although some good footage of the area.

Banksy, The Alternativity @ Walled Off Hotel, by moron on Dec 19, 2017 18:41:54 GMT 1, The stunt with the guy with the sword was unplanned and unforseen by Banksy. He was quite scary attacking the cake with the sword. To be honest he was making a point about a free Palestine in his own way. He probably heard about the unveiling and the film and news crews being there from various countries and took the opportunity to make his protest.

For that kind of budget who couldn't create an opening ceremony.

I thought it was good watching the children getting animated and singing along with the free Palestine chant.
Got to say i preferred it to seeing them looking glum with their hats on.

Fair comment. I think both projects had their own challenges. With the Banksy one I felt DB input was quite limited.

That’s like giving someone £27m and saying you couldn’t fail to make a successful movie. It obviously helps but it was a massive challenge to deliver something good although expectations were quite low. It is worth watching though.

Banksy, The Alternativity @ Walled Off Hotel, by ed on Dec 20, 2017 1:30:34 GMT 1, Just got around to watching the documentary, gonna wait for tomorrows broadcast to watch the nativity.
Call me cynical (just don't call me a cuunt as you might get blocked) but I watched that documentary as if it was a partially scripted piece, think 'the only way is essex'.
Imo it's not too much of a stretch to imagine that banksy and Boyle contrived that 'not wanting to besmirch the innocence of kids' narrative to highlight the reality of those kids lives continually being politicised and harmed by the decisions of adults vs the actions of their parents to try and protect them from it.
As I think others have said, the Nativity seems to me to be the side show and a vehicle to get a documentary onto the BBC that shows a different Palestine than typically shown and a humanity to the people who are often portrayed in a very different light.
I thought it was great.

I Don't think that was in the traditional one?

Maybe though its a play on words Nativity. AlterNATIVITY. This may have been done for a bit of humour?

For a nativity play? You have to use the word “alternative” in the context in which it was used.
