Banksy Morons Print, by wlsp4657 on May 17, 2007 2:49:36 GMT 1, I just wanted to say that I think Morons is the most under appreciated and under estimated Banksy ever. This image sums up his career better then anything he may ever produce. It is the perfect image for the artist. And I think it will define his legacy. If you are one of the people lucky enough to have gotten a Morons print, hold on to it and treasure it. Thats all.
Any thoughts?

Banksy Morons Print, by rob123rob on May 17, 2007 3:06:07 GMT 1, And considering how hard it was/is to get one of the Morons print in mint condition (think of how many of us have had to send ours back), this may help in the future value of a mint-condition Morons print. But of course none of this will matter once Trolley Hunters is released (foiled again!)

Banksy Morons Print, by Strange Al on May 17, 2007 8:46:01 GMT 1, Wisp - there was plenty of discussion of the morons print and it's artistic merit at the time of it's release and if you read my posts then you'll have seen that I'm a huge fan of the image too. I love the irony of us morons scrambling to buy this sh*t.
However, I don't think that in monetary terms the Morons image is actually being underestimated. Look at the values the print is already fetching on ebay only weeks after its release - they're pretty much in line with the other LA banksy releases (as well as with many of the earlier Banksy's).
The main reason people don't think this image is quite the classic of some of his other works is the style of execution. Banksy made his name as a street artist, with his socio-political stencil pieces. This piece, which was a canvas at the LA show, has much more of an illustrative style. Time will tell, but IMO when people discuss Banksy's career in future it's not going to be the illustrative works which will be most talked about.

Banksy Morons Print, by dave313perry on May 17, 2007 8:52:22 GMT 1, great analysis and i totally agrre, i figured all the controversy over image type/ subject and colour execution would only add to the interest in the print. The new illustrative style is quite original for banksy and if over time Banksy holds up (of course he will!) this this print will surely be a must for every collector as an alternative banksy style!

Banksy Morons Print, by pezlow on May 17, 2007 9:57:02 GMT 1, I like the Morons print and am currently having my unsigned framed. But I personally prefer some of the earlier stencilled stuff just because it personally speaks to me more as to what banksy is about.
And dare I say it some of the LA Work is a little unsubtle in it's use of juxtaposition or just plain obvious. Morons I would say falls into the latter category, although it's longevity as a Banksy piece is likely to be because of the irony of the bunfight over its purchase.

Banksy Morons Print, by stenz1 on May 17, 2007 10:30:57 GMT 1, I think the LA images whilst good, are not nearly as iconic as his early stencils.....................because they aren't actually street art......whilst clever they are a bit throwaway, except I think for the hunters shopping trolley image which is brilliant............Banksy's skill lies in subversion

This discussion has been going on for a while with applause, which I own and have grown to like very much. I do a think that bankys 'style' if you were to pigeon hole it will be remembered by his early stencil work and not his illustrative / painted works. Although for me the messages are still there.

Banksy Morons Print, by pw on May 17, 2007 17:32:53 GMT 1, I think everyones pretty much agreed that Banksy will be defined by his early street art/stencil work.
Hes still a young guy and could be a working artist for another 30-40 years and his style could possibly change several times, so he will undoubtedly be most defined by the street work that first made him famous.

Banksy Morons Print, by tittytata on May 18, 2007 14:28:59 GMT 1, Well, I must say that I grow less and less fond of Morons the more and more I look at mine. Opposite to Flag which I though was a mess, but I have grown fond of it. I thought about selling Morons on but I decided to keep it for now and get it properly framed for two reasons. (A) It was too much hassle to get. I was one of the lucky ones who got up in the middle of night (had to go to the loo) and found the POW website back up. (B) It will hopefully always have retain some monetary value being a signed ed print so it might be useful to sell or trade for something else I can more engage with later.

That's not completely true if you were an early bird... I was second in line to get into the show the day it opened to the public, and there were still around 40-ish of each print available. When it was my turn in line, all 6 LA prints were available to me, but alas, $3000 wasn't, so I had to pick only 2
But generally speaking then, yes, it was a very small window of opportunity. About 90 minutes in after the opening, everything had sold out. I was actually surprised that his show was such a success here, since American's didn't really know who Banksy was at that time.

Banksy Morons Print, by abeautifulnight on Mar 30, 2007 15:32:00 GMT 1, I've been unhappy with the quality stuff on pictures on walls for quiet some time and the latest from banksy really is the final nail in the coffin.
Some may say the new banksy is a comment on the demand for his work and modern art in general. But really is he not just slagging off the people who've put him where he is !
The edition is huge, the image is nothing special - and not by any means a classic banksy. Why are people putting up with is shit any more?
