Banksy Books • Existencilism, Cut it Out, Banging Your Head, by drip on Jul 13, 2020 22:22:11 GMT 1, This won't help with your post but a mate of mine found all 3 books in mint condition in a charity shop and bought all 3 for a fiver so is worth dropping into the odd Oxfam when you're out and about! This won't help either, but I was in my local Oxfam book store a couple of years back and, in their "fancy" book section, they had a first edition of Wall and Piece. WITH THE DUSTJACKET!!!
After gathering up my marbles that had just scattered all over the floor, I took the book down from the shelf. It appeared to be in nice condition. I had never seen one with the jacket before. I vowed there and then to buy it, no matter what the price was - it was mine.
The price label said £39.99.
I said to myself, ok, it might be mine, let's have a look at it, and I opened up the book, flicking through the pages. All was fine, but then, when I got about halfway through the book, pages started to get a little bit wavy and then a whole lot thicker.
Half the pages were stuck together with some sort of, once wet but now solidified brown substance. Either its last owner had dropped a hot chocolate onto the book, and then thought, meh, and just closed the book and put it back on the shelf. OR it was an extremely harsh critique from someone that really didn't like Banksy's oeuvre.
I figured, it's gotta be worth saving the dustjacket, right? I turned the book over, and all the way down the back of the jacket, there were large brown drips. I know drips normally increase the value of a Banksy, but not in this case. It was ruined. It was more Pollock than Banksy. It was well Pollocked.
I'm not ashamed to admit, I cried in that Oxfam. I stood there with that book in my hand and cried. Not a lot, admittedly, but a moist eye is a moist eye. Eventually they told me they were closing. Practically had to pry the book from my fingers, I didn't want to let it go.
It wasn't to be. BUT these things are still out there, so it's always worth checking out your local thrift and charity stores. Not every Doris knows the value of what's donated, and art-loving couples split up or die without heirs all the time, so, keep looking.

Sorry to add to the confusion but I understand there are two versions of the postcard. One does have perforations and one doesn’t.

This won't help either, but I was in my local Oxfam book store a couple of years back and, in their "fancy" book section, they had a first edition of Wall and Piece. WITH THE DUSTJACKET!!!
