Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by loother on Nov 20, 2017 17:21:05 GMT 1, Friends!
I've gone through enough of these mailouts without getting anything to know how it feels to read about another's success without being able to celebrate your own. Having never been able to even contemplate the purchase of a genuine Banksy print – hell, even a Soup Cans poster was a distant dream until just a few days ago – every delirious update was a dagger to my overemotional heart.
It has been, I admit, a little shameful: a sentient adult human should be able to cope better than I have with feelings of disappointment. I have experienced in my life things much more genuinely troubling than a failure to avail myself of a piece of glorified paper, and dealt with them with much greater equanimity. Over the last fortnight my wife has watched my unhappiness with an expression of surprise and disappointment, bordering occasionally on outright amusement. And therefore, to those still waiting, I apologise.
I received my email at 3.40pm this afternoon. The deadline for me to make my purchase was 9pm this evening. They're not hanging around any more.
I have met my deadline. My print number is in the first half of the edition, so they're clearly being allocated at random. I would guess that there is not a lot of hope left, but all is not lost. Believe. And to those still waiting, I feel your pain. And also, I'll admit it, quite a lot of happiness.

Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by Rouen Cathedral on Nov 20, 2017 17:50:29 GMT 1, So I guess it’s pretty safe to say there was no vetting of buyers as it’s taken 4 rounds so far to sell them.
A shame. I guess we all should have no followed the rules and used 100+ email addresses?

Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by Pawel on Nov 20, 2017 18:12:51 GMT 1, I'm quite surprised that they need 4 rounds to sell out the print. Unless they were released in batches. If rounds 2-4 were leftovers only I'd consider this forum extremely lucky that so many people on here were the winners.

But what if I didn’t win cause some flipper put in 300 email addresses.
Can I whine now? Or how about when he lists it at 20x the purchase price?

Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by hui on Nov 20, 2017 18:50:12 GMT 1, Log off, appreciate what you have - stay away from the Banksy threads for a few days. You're taking this way too personal. I feel like I'm seeing your faith in humanity crumble. It's like you just found out Santa Claus doesn't exist or something.
You'll be fine. It gets better. I promise.

Just kidding, I get everyone's pain really. Personally think lottery was better than f5 bashing for days

Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by rockbeer on Nov 20, 2017 20:37:28 GMT 1, So I guess it’s pretty safe to say there was no vetting of buyers as it’s taken 4 rounds so far to sell them. A shame. I guess we all should have no followed the rules and used 100+ email addresses? On the contrary, it seems likely to me that rather than vetting everyone in the draw, which would have been an insane and all-but-impossible task, they'd have vetted the winners in each round. This seems a more logical explanation of why it's taken four rounds to sell them, and perhaps to an extent why there have been so many winners from the forum.
In the absence of vetting, I'd imagine the vast majority of the prints would end up with dealers and speculators.

Not sure that should be considered vetting by POW.
How many 'forum members' have won? I'm 100% sure that poll wasn't correct so don't quote that...

I didn't say people not responding to emails was vetting.
I siad if they were going to vet, the way to vet would be to vet the winners rather than the entire draw, and there's no reason to think they didn't do this.
Not sure how many on here have won, just going with an impression I've formed from reading the threads and it seems like quite a few.
The truth is none of us really know whether they vetted the lottery or not, but I don't see how having four distribution rounds is evidence for them not doing - seems more like evidence of people not checking their spam folders or not having 500 quid to hand. And perhaps I'm wrong, but that strikes me as more characteristic of your average random hopeful than your average cut-throat speculator.
Even if POW did vet the entire draw, which I can hardly imagine, I don't see how they could have weeded out everyone who wouldn't think to check their spam.

Banksy • Sale Ends Today, by rockbeer on Nov 20, 2017 21:43:04 GMT 1, I don't get how you think they are vetting the winners?
I don't get how to interpret your question. But anyway, here's a possible scenario:
1. Draw 500 random emails from all those submitted.
2. Check each of the 500 for multiple submissions, history of flipping, etc. - whatever criteria they've decided eliminates someone from being considered a good home.
3. Reject each of the non-qualifiers from step 2 and replace it with another from the main pool.
4. Vet replacements.
5. Repeat until you have a list of 500 qualifying emails.
6. Send out notifications to the lucky 500.
7. Repeat steps 1-5 with however many entries are necessary to create a reserve list for subsequent rounds.
8. Keep going until all prints are assigned.
Is that something like what you were asking for? Seems much more manageable than trying to vet however many thousands of entries were received in total.

I guess my question is more about why you think vetting actually occurred.
Based on the timeline and who’s won vs not it appears there wasn’t any.

I don't get how to interpret your question. But anyway, here's a possible scenario: 1.
