Banksy, Basquiat and the Barbican, by Viking Surfer on Sept 19, 2017 3:29:29 GMT 1, Hope they have the sense to leave these! I hope so too!
As others have pointed out, it is a heritage area so it's unlikely, here's hoping though.

Banksy, Basquiat and the Barbican, by damo on Sept 19, 2017 18:36:21 GMT 1, Walked past this a few times today, including the last few minutes. There has been a constant, and very diverse, crowd taking pics, etc. Security man estimated total so far at circa 3,000. I'm struggling to think of anyone (there isn't anyone) that could achieve that off street work. Really has reminded me of Banksys reach, and whilst I don't think popularity always equals quality you have to assume he's now reached a level where he'll still be discussed in 50 years, akin to Warhol. Not news I accept, but a good reminder.

Banksy, Basquiat and the Barbican, by medichead on Sept 20, 2017 11:14:28 GMT 1, A totally heart warming experience to be had, seeing this Banksy. People from all walks of life: school kids, teenagers, businessmen, tourists. All stopping, posing, admiring, critiquing.
Not that we need any more, but my shots from the day:

Banksy, Basquiat and the Barbican, by theurbancurator100 on Sept 20, 2017 11:58:51 GMT 1, Good for you. I'm glad I got down there on Sunday night before the media frenzy really got going and managed to take a picture BEFORE that other Haring- Basquiat lookalike impeded the shot. That glory hunting other artist has kinda ruined it for me. However I'm sure more ruining will ensue in days to come.

I agree, I liked it to begin with, then found out who he is, had a read up about him and his gallery Bankrobber which kinda put a downer on it for me

Banksy, Basquiat and the Barbican, by waXology on Sept 21, 2017 22:59:26 GMT 1, Was there this evening. Lovely in the flesh.
Security said they are there 24/7 and it is getting covered tomorrow. Make of that what you will. I assume that means perspex.

Its a listed building, also that streetsign will need to be replaced. I also would enquire with the Barbican Centre if those security guys are authorised to be there.

The artist name is called Catman. After all this Basquiat hysteria going around at the moment I thought it was only right.

The artist got a touch, they must feel he's in some way affiliated with Banksy or that it's in keeping with Basquiat and Banksy. Who decides these things? But he's been pictured right alongside the Banksy all week so it's a win win for him.

You have a valid point, however he should've given Banksy his space. Let a man breathe

a dual homage and collaboration. They are next to each other and not over each other.

Banksy, Basquiat and the Barbican, by Rouen Cathedral on Sept 22, 2017 13:07:11 GMT 1, Man banksy sure has everyone like puppets. It's quite incredible.
Cities protecting his graffiti, fans complaining if graffiti is done adjacent or if anyone breathes on the work.
Man that really is his most impressive piece of work.

Banksy, Basquiat and the Barbican, by Cookiemonster on Sept 22, 2017 13:13:51 GMT 1, I suggest everyone who wants to stop this piece falling in to the hands of 3rd parties - should be calling City of London Planning and finding out who authorised the covering up of this work and for what purpose? It's a waste of local authorities money to place security guards 24/7 to protect it, while also allowing pretty deep holes to be drilled in to a listed building without consent. I'd rather see it buffed then get removed to be sold.
