Eureka / California, by Dan Kitchener on Jul 22, 2017 15:30:49 GMT 1, 'Electric-city / Eureka, California' - So pleased to finally reveal my largest mural to date, and this time in the beautiful city of Eureka California! It's all freehand, no grids, guides or projections, just me and spray paint, like all my murals! I am always striving to hone my skills and techniques and like to challenge myself in terms if scale, proportion, perspective and detail, this was a challenge, but i am super happy with the result. The people of Eureka were so welcoming and friendly and i loved chatting with so many people everyday i painted, what a fantastic place to paint! 50ft high x 70ft wide / 8 days / freehand spray paint / solo painted

Eureka / California, by Dan Kitchener on Aug 7, 2017 6:29:09 GMT 1, Thanks! It's my best and largest mural yet. I really wanted to challenge myself with this. Especially sketching the ghost lines in correct perspective for me was a real challenge, all by eye, with no grids or guides or projections. For me, it's not just about getting to the final image, it's the craft, the process and the journey creating it...honing skills, and techniques and never cutting corners.... Once i had that locked down, then i could enjoy painting and making the mural come alive. Not bad going for 8 days solid work. I am really proud of this, especially with the huge public response, and media interest...all good

The article states that some people don't think it's all good. Some said it looks really out of place, especially with the Asian writing. Don't get me wrong, I think it's fabulous although I'm not a resident of Eureka. I hope that the majority of the residence realize how lucky they are to have one of your murals in their little town. I've heard Eureka is kind of a dismal place and the economy hasn't been good there over the last decade or so and the crime rate has risen. I think the bright colors and the energy that the mural evokes would be uplifting to the town. I hope nobody desecrates it out of spite as there are a lot of so called "Rednecks" in the Pacific Northwest. I just hope there are more decent people possessing intelligence and good morals in that town. Time will tell and I hope your mural stands the test of time. Great job.

Eureka / California, by Dan Kitchener on Aug 7, 2017 18:36:24 GMT 1, thanks for taking the time to reply. Yes i am happy in my mind that i created something that the majority of people love, i have had numerous emails and messages from people since being back in the UK and also had countless people commenting and watching me painting, sometimes returning daily to see progress. You cannot please everyone, but in my opinion it feels like 75% of people were very happy. The gallery who is instigating the mural art project as well as local residents who have lived in the town for generations all expressed their love of the mural, this to me is important...haters will always be there, no matter what you do...i need to remain true to my self artistically as this shows in my work...i was invited to paint there as my creative vision is something they wanted to inject in to the old town...
