Forum Auctions, Banksy Marketplace π¬π§, by daniel3886 on Oct 11, 2016 10:00:47 GMT 1, I popped in last night to take a look. I would strongly urge anyone considering bidding to inspect the pieces in person lots (not all) had creases, marks so satisfy yourself on the condition before bidding. I'm not sure if bidding subject to removal from frame is an option but it's how I'd insist on bidding.

Forum Auctions, Banksy Marketplace π¬π§, by daniel3886 on Oct 11, 2016 11:37:07 GMT 1, I Wasn't making any accusations and I'm sure the condition reports are very thorough. If you're attached to the sale in some way maybe you can put people's minds at rest, mine included. Tell us what would happen in the event of a print being examined out of the frame that is found to have significant issues/damage?

Forum Auctions, Banksy Marketplace π¬π§, by DrWhite on Oct 11, 2016 11:50:59 GMT 1, I've always believed that when you buy at auction it's "sold as seen" with no comeback for the buyer. Having said that I've seen some prints which were flagged up on here as being poor condition- sell and be sent to graham bignell & be returned in perfect condition Some defects on prints that have been poorly handled iare to be expected- but it can be rectified quite easily. Banksy buyers are obsessed with "MINT" condition prints - when they then look at other artists prints from 35+ years ago such as Warhol & Haring & Indiana they expect these also to be in "MINT" condition - it's getting more difficult to find these pristine examples.
The GWB at a recent autction with tears rips & a hole still found a buyer

Forum Auctions, Banksy Marketplace π¬π§, by Pattycakes on Oct 11, 2016 12:02:14 GMT 1, All auctions worth their weight in salt allow you to request to see lots out of the frame, as I said all you need to do is ask. I make it a matter of point that any lot I am viewing in an auction I ask the house to take out of the frame for me to inspect. If they won't do it then I won't bid simple as.

Forum Auctions, Banksy Marketplace π¬π§, by daniel3886 on Oct 11, 2016 13:27:40 GMT 1, It seems like inspection out of the frame is a given for most auction houses. Although as the Dr pointed out that work is "sold as seen". I look forward to seeing how things go.

Forum Auctions, Banksy Marketplace π¬π§, by Pattycakes on Oct 11, 2016 13:36:58 GMT 1, Auction houses expect buyers to satisfy themselves with the condition of the work, hence the provision of condition reports and the ability to view in person. If things have condition issues then this surely is taken into account by the buyers and the amount they are willing to pay?
I buy a lot at auction and when I buy something with condition issues it's either because I know I can get them fixed, or because it doesn't bother me, but I bid accordingly in the knowledge that I may have to spend X to get things fixed.
