AUGUSTG 1000 post Giveaway countdown. , by Deleted on May 30, 2017 5:40:21 GMT 1, Ok... So I guess I am close to the 1,000 post mark which really only means that it is ones time to give back a bit to a place that has offered me perspective, education, and afforded me few new friends around the globe.
When I think back to what my favorite threads have been since joining "Show us your pad" and "Your latest art purchase" have always been tops for me. In the spirit of these threads, and so not to create a simple quoted and repeated list of names, the rules of entry for this giveaway will be as follows...
- Reply to this thread by ** Posting a picture of your favorite currently hung artwork from your collection. Anything from your Rothko to your children's preschool drawings. Monetary value is meaningless here and this is purely about enjoyment.
- Share a bit about why the piece you chose is significant or meaningful to YOU.
- You can enter as many times as you like by showing and sharing your thoughts about different pieces that you currently have framed and hung.
- I will draw ONE winner **just after I reach 1000 posts.
For my next 10 posts until I reach 1000 I will be adding gifts to this list totaling 10 in all and will post to a single winner WW at my cost.
(**Edit Since I do enjoy commenting as well let's say the contest ends when I announce all 10 prizes instead)
Thanks for the all the fun.
Gifts:
1. VNA D-Face Scarf.
2. Invader Postcard set
3. Dave Shrigley Pin
4. Coming soon....

AUGUSTG 1000 post Giveaway countdown. , by touchdowntodd on May 30, 2017 5:47:36 GMT 1, Awesome giveaway
Here is my entry. 7x10 graphite "Depression" by Ryan Travis Christian. . Taken from my ig outside only for lighting purposes. I don't have the greatest house, nor fantastic lighting .. just a humble collector. Just got this recently, and is by far the most personally meaningful piece in my collection. I could discuss reasons for days.
Besides the giveaway which I am sure I have no chance at winning, I can't wait to see people post just because of getting to see some great pieces, and hearing great stories. I think I'll do similar when I get to 1k.. just need to get a cool Piece put aside between now and then. Bravo

AUGUSTG 1000 post Giveaway countdown. , by Schrödinger's Chat on May 30, 2017 13:33:35 GMT 1, I had these two commissions done for my kids by an artist called Hatch.
I am Cornish and my Partner Swedish, so I asked him to combine the best of both.
There are quite a few references; Pasty, Country Flags, Dalarhest (Swedish painted horse), Cornish coat of arms etc.
Fun and personal!

AUGUSTG 1000 post Giveaway countdown. , by k2 on May 30, 2017 14:47:58 GMT 1, Without question this is my favourite thing (thanks mla )...
I have a strong connection to the image as it reminds me of my little feline buddy who passed away last year. I'm not particularly a cat person, but this little chap was f**kingawesome and is badly missed.

AUGUSTG 1000 post Giveaway countdown. , by NYart on May 31, 2017 16:00:26 GMT 1, Quite the fun idea, count me in.
My favorite tends to change quite frequently but at the moment I'm really enjoying my 1/1 'Falling apart but hanging in there'. Whenever I walk in after a long day it reminds me of some of the tougher things I've made it through and helps me put it all into perspective. Also doesn't hurt that it's just a really cool piece haha.

AUGUSTG 1000 post Giveaway countdown. , by Deleted on May 31, 2017 17:52:29 GMT 1, Mine is this. We have a bit of a love hate relationship going on. Sometimes i just wish we had never met, though most of the time i sit and stare at his fantastically fucked up face and wonder things. We have travelled around a bit, and he is a bit of a nomad, never quite settling in a room. He reminds me of things over the last ten years we have been hanging around together. He is old and he is bold, He's gloriously ugly, he's worth f**k all now, but i likes Him, I call him Eggy
This is him when he was quite new

I love John, I bought a sketch from him whilst he was chilling on the street outside the gallery. Preferred to give the money directly to John than going through the gallery

He also loves sending the little bits out into the world with people. Pretty sweet thing to be doing really.
You wont have to worry about that anymore. There was a for rent sign in the window and a full restoration job going on inside. so i guess its RIP to Griffin Gallery. Shame really, some great times and experiences in there and met a bunch of awesome people.

AUGUSTG 1000 post Giveaway countdown. , by phischa on Jun 1, 2017 10:09:59 GMT 1, First of all: Thank you @augustg for the giveaway. It's a great idea!!!
This is one of my favorites:
I started a thread recently about Zeitgeist. My aim was to buy my newborn daughter her first piece of art and I wanted to ask the forum about their opinions/ideas. The piece should reflect the current Zeitgeist (image and/or technique). Some days after the thread has become silent, the German artist auweia offered me a stencil piece for the nursery as a gift. I didn't know how the piece will look like but was totally smashed about such a generous offer. Long story short. The art work arrived and my wife and I were blown away. It was a real piece of art with so much detail and reallynice colours. The best thing thought: The kid on the image looks exactly like me as a kid. What an unbelievable coincidence :-) Close friends and family still asking if this were a commissioned piece and if we hope the expected baby girl will look like me :-)
The generosity of the artist, the coincidental choice of the perfect image in combination to my initial idea of buying a 'Zeitgeist-piece' for my daughter makes it to one of my favorite pieces of art and favorite story to tell.
PS: I hope auweia is content with telling the story in public

AUGUSTG 1000 post Giveaway countdown. , by Stoko on Jun 1, 2017 10:22:25 GMT 1, Great thread. Here's my entry: Years ago we bought some Jon Burgerman wallpaper (printed with doodles but no colour). One night, after a few, we decided that anybody who came into our house for whatever reason had to colour in one of the characters. So at first, family members. Then friends. Then over the next few weeks it got more surreal as we flatly refused to allow entrance to ur house (unless they added to the mural) the likes of Pizza delivery guys. Meter readers. Our local Labour councillor. At the local Blackpool Sand Sea and Spray event I talked a few artists to coming round and adding to it. And after 9 months it was complete, and I posted about it on Facebook, and word got back to Jon Burgerman himself who asked for high quality photos to use in a book. Obviously, being a bit of a fan, I had to be cheeky and so asked for an original in return. Jon said he'd send me something as a thank you. Unbeknown to me he went through my Facebook photos and found a picture of my sons, and sent me this.By far and away my favourite piece of art in the house; zero financial value or importance to anyone else but now my lads are bigger and my collection is smaller, this always raises a smile.

And that picture of your sons is so great! There's nothing better, or more refreshing, than seeing a piece of art that is worth the world to you, but of little value to others. Wish we could have more of that on here.

AUGUSTG 1000 post Giveaway countdown. , by T-Bro on Jun 1, 2017 10:43:45 GMT 1, Not sure if it classes as art but here is my motivational pic from when i did my first house. I basically purchased the house and knocked it down - I felt so out my depth. I remember actually bursting into tears over a discussion with my dad over an issue as I didn't know what to do. But I came through it and its my motivation picture that most things - however tough - are actually not that bad.

AUGUSTG 1000 post Giveaway countdown. , by rockbeer on Jun 1, 2017 11:05:50 GMT 1, Fantastic giveaway augustg, thank you.
This is one of my current favourites. A lino cut I picked up at the Queen Mob Collective stand after attending their workshop at the Anarchist Bookfair in London last year. It was designed, cut and printed at a street workshop in Peru, so to me it represents what street art is really all about. It's worth nothing, or possibly less, and technically it isn't even a very good print (there are a couple of places where the ink coverage is sketchy), but it was the last one they had, and I accepted it gratefully.
I love the energy and lines of movement in it, and it seems to me to perfectly capture its time and place.
Good luck to everyone.

THIS is what it's all about. Great story. Warms the cockles!
