Felipe Pantone ๐ฆ๐ท Exhibition News โข Contemporary Art , by J0NNY on Jul 25, 2018 22:40:58 GMT 1, Do we not pay for an artist to create works for us using their experience and creativity? I get that people might ask an artist to customised an existing piece to suit their tastes or needs, for example wanting a different colouway or size, but creating the whole works like this just seems a little build-a-bear. If I wanted to make my own art I could pick up a brush, or get on photoshop and go to a decent printers and still be thousands of $ better off.

Felipe Pantone ๐ฆ๐ท Exhibition News โข Contemporary Art , by eyectopus on Jul 25, 2018 23:02:24 GMT 1, I think it would be a great thing to have as an interactive piece at a gallery, where the user configures the work and it is then displayed on a screen for a few mins or even gets to print off a digital copy for a price.
I am in two minds about the online configuration of a piece to purchase. Filipes artwork lends itself to this pretty well, as it is already digitally created and made up of different re-usable elements. How much is lost or added to in the piece by the artist not manipulating(configuring) it I am not sure.

For those who may not be familiar, here is a brief blurb regarding thrm from Wikipedia: According to the principle of his work, LeWitt's wall drawings are usually executed by people other than the artist himself. Even after his death, people are still making these drawings. He would therefore eventually use teams of assistants to create such works. Writing about making wall drawings, LeWitt himself observed in 1971 that "each person draws a line differently and each person understands words differently".
Definitely think Felipe is embracing the ideals of conceptual/contemporary art in a way not seen yet. I am both excited and bummed, as the one I mocked up / created was way out of my budget.

Felipe Pantone ๐ฆ๐ท Exhibition News โข Contemporary Art , by Henry Gale Was Here on Jul 26, 2018 14:57:14 GMT 1, So now you make the art for him, using his usual color boxes or gradients and lines, and print it out. But pay him? Why? Make your own in MS Paint or PS if you like it, it's really nothing that difficult.
Some people will eat up anything...

If I wanted to make my own art I could pick up a brush, or get on photoshop and go to a decent printers and still be thousands of $ better off. The artist did already put much of his time and built a team to accomplish an idea that no other artist I know has came up with yet. He has designed each component to work together. So as an artist he has already created this product by making his original artworks. His career as an artist has led him to create a body of work that is easily identified even if you could go on MS paint and do it. Just like anyone can splash paint on a canvas, pollock is still credited with that breakthrough. People always will say things are easy when in fact they did not happen so easily, this artist took his whole career to make that breakthrough. This new series is just an extension of his concept and anyone that thinks that they could make something similar and look the same doesn't understand the process of production and fabricating. For someone to do this, just to print would be a similar cost maybe if your lucky but most likely would cost you more unless you bought them in bulk.
Thats not even addressing the fact that a replica which would probably cost more to produce and look second rate would not be signed by the artist or #'d. It also would just be a copy of something like reproductions of high end furniture or something. So if you don't like his work cool, its not for everyone. But please don't act like this is something easily made or a concept that has been done before.
BTW, I don't have any affiliation with this product I actually sell original Pantone pieces which compete with this product. I just know his team very well and the amount of work that went into this.

Felipe Pantone ๐ฆ๐ท Exhibition News โข Contemporary Art , by soupy on Aug 30, 2018 14:17:39 GMT 1, the marc quinn prints look amazing.
2 things:
(1) is there any chance to share some higher resolution closeup pics of the image?
(2) i just tried to cart and checkout one of the prints and it is showing 1700 euros (not the 1500 euro preorder price)

Then its tax on top of that.
