New work 2017, by Dan Kitchener on Apr 26, 2017 17:26:43 GMT 1, some recent work
'Lost In Thoughts' Tokyo / Continuing on from my recent trip to Tokyo, and more inspiration from the rain soaked streets and my wanderings around the amazing city. I wanted to focus more on people and characters with a lot of my new work, and perhaps less focused on the epic scale, and more on the macro scale...it's interesting to create little narratives with the people that pass by, captured facial expressions and gestures, allow the mind to wander and imagine what they are thinking...in this image, the girl about to cross the road, in her own world...whilst around the bustle of the city goes by, people chatting and laughing behind and around her, as she stands, lost in her own thoughts...
Room 109 At the Double Tree by Hilton, NDSM Wharf / Amsterdam with Street Art Today - My recently completed Hotel room commission in Amsterdam, now the room is furnished and ready for guests!
'Cab' - Continuing where i left off with my daily Tokyo inspired speed paints, this painting is based on walking to Roppongi Hills, the dry streets that night, still had a jewel like vibrance and beauty, inspiring!
'Red Lights' - Continuing my series of illustrations and visuals from Future Tokyo, another bustling rain soaked side street, with geisha and hostess bars lining the streets, shadowy figures pressed up to the glass windows rising into the night sky...
'Cable webs' - I love the back streets around Tokyo, stumbling upon these hidden worlds, glimpses into other realities, people standing talking to unseen friends, ghostly shadowy figures stumbling awkwardly in the dark corners, flickering neon signs above, and a spider web like network of cables and wires, criss crossing above, like a giant web, connecting the city to everything, like a giant living, pulsating creature,
Archway / London - 'Vantage Point' for Essential Living - My latest mural commission completed! Really enjoyed painting this large scale street scene in the main lobby entrance to the new Vantage Point, next to Archway tube station! Mixed media approach for this wall, can, acrylic and paint markers were used to give a greater detail and sense of depth. I really wanted intense ares of detail, and then larger swathes of more generalised, abstract shapes, this felt like a huge canvas painting, rather than pure street art, it was a lot of work!
'Edge Of The City' - This morning's speed painting based on my last Tokyo trip. Standing at the edge of Shinjuku, and gazing back to the city, with endless skyscrapers, tiny blinking lights reaching high into the darkness...
'Robot Guard' - Good to get back to illustrating some pure sci-fi / fantasy illustrations. This original biro sketch had been in my sketch book for a while now, and I kept meaning to artwork it, and finally managed to ! It's a bustling, future Tokyo street, with the main assassin character and her robotic bodyguard, searching the streets for her target...feel free to share
'Sky Lights' - This mornings Tokyo based speed painting! Based on my trip back from Edogawa through the incredible nightscape of Tokyo, I love the city so much, I can't wait to get back there...
'Towers Of Light' - Shinjuku / Tokyo - Based on my recent trip to my favorite city, Tokyo! Feel free to share
'Sky Cities' - Future Tokyo, playing around with background visuals this morning for some large murals in the pipelines!
'Trackside - Shibuya / Tokyo' - This morning's speed painting based on my recent wanderings round back streets in Daikanyama, Tokyo, inspired by the still night and electric city in the background, trains speeding passed, ghostly sounds in the still air...
Latest Large scale mural, Newham London
'Nearly Home' - Tokyo speed paint, based on my recent trip to Japan, arriving back to Shibuya from painting my mural in Edogawa, rain just started and my excitement that i am going to get some rainy photographs and inspiration!
'Queen's Parade' - Future Tokyo / watching the Queen of Neon's royal procession, as she moves through the streets. Followed by her huge entourage, hauling her coils of trailing cables, to keep her connected to the city, keeping the city alive and the neon shining bright throughout the city....

New work 2017, by Dan Kitchener on May 3, 2017 8:40:28 GMT 1, 'Back Streets - Tokyo' - On my last trip to Japan, i wanted to stay in local areas, rather than Hotels, to experience a more everyday view of Tokyo. Living in these residential areas was fascinating to me, seeing the streets and environments that would normally be ignored and passed by. This side street was very near my apartment, and had a minimal neon content, but had a strange beauty, and when it rained, the image came to life, and it's something I knew i'd paint back in the UK.

New work 2017, by Dan Kitchener on May 31, 2017 13:48:09 GMT 1, 'M25' - I do love a grey, rain soaked motorway....my favourite being the M25, unfortunately this speed paint shows a relatively clear road, not a lovely non moving traffic jam, in the rain, as it is most days! Good to see the beauty of every scene, anytime, even in the most mundane of scenes....

That is excellent Dan. I'm especially drawn the the light reflections. Fine work.

New work 2017, by Dan Kitchener on Jun 6, 2017 9:15:04 GMT 1, Thanks Yorkie! Glad you like it
My latest painting
'A Sense Of Calm' Seam Reap, Cambodia / Bayon Temple - So I have been painting some different paintings recently, nature at it's finest in fact. This painting is based on my trip to Seam Reap / Cambodia last year. I was immediately struck by the lighting, and the pose of the Macaque monkey, the way the light illuminated his fur subtly, like a gentle glow. But the main draw was his pose, and the look of sadness in his eyes, a distance gaze, as though he was day dreaming, out of the blazing sun of Cambodia, he was taken refuge in the cool shade of the Bayon Temples many rooms. With all the pain, sadness and fear of late, for me, i am becoming more drawn to these type of scenes, to explore the beauty of life and celebrate the beauty of the world around all.
