Swoon πΊπΈ Contemporary Art β’ Street Art β’ Art For Sale, by absyrd on Oct 26, 2007 14:09:11 GMT 1, Actually... hang on a sec, Mr. BRP, if you would. Is that "Girl From Ranoon" a screenprint like it says on the site? I see the ink from the carving lines in the open areas, so I assumed it was just a run on the wood or linoleum after a few had been done previous to it.

Swoon πΊπΈ Contemporary Art β’ Street Art β’ Art For Sale, by robo on Oct 26, 2007 14:24:20 GMT 1, I think the Swoon prints are screenprints on paper or mylar, whereas the originals are either stencils or, quite often, hand cut paper applied to wood, so quite different.

Swoon πΊπΈ Contemporary Art β’ Street Art β’ Art For Sale, by pezlow on Oct 26, 2007 14:31:30 GMT 1, Ahhh that explains it. But the site did say screenprint for a number of them....
Just had my delivery arrive from papermonster. Having a bit a mare today as the swoon has a fingerprint on it that I don't think can be removed and the borf has 2 black marks right in the middle of it when it got damaged in transit. Not very impressive at all....

Clearly the Kiku piece says screenprint on mylar - maybe its miss typed because i swear 'The Girl From Ranoon Province' said the same before, so im with you on this Perry
I would have thought that to be originals they are hand drawn and cut on paper or whatever it is she uses. A little e-mail to Blackrat would sort it out, so much out of my pprice range anyway but hey ho!!!

Swoon πΊπΈ Contemporary Art β’ Street Art β’ Art For Sale, by absyrd on Oct 26, 2007 14:58:56 GMT 1, For those who don't know, the thing about lino and woodcuts is that you get really fast image degradation over time. The more you print, the more ink you get on the spots you don't want it. You can keep chipping away at those spots, but the wood is only going to last so long. Eventually you also get crazy ink buildup and whatever else stuck to the surface, so you can't get as crisp of the desired area. You can clean those areas with different oils, alcohol, or other solvents, but that, too, stops working effectively after a while. Since Swoon says she loves "decay" and whatnot, she probably enjoys some of the later prints rather than the earlier.
Doing it on mylar, however, makes you be able to stretch the image a bit longer because, unlike printing paper, it doesn't "give" as much and get pushed down into those undesired areas.
A wood or linocut print is as original as it gets, unless she sells you the actual piece of wood (which would be dope).
I love the fact that Swoon uses this age-old technique on decaying paper in her street work. Definitely makes her stand out and also catches the eye of more traditional art fans.

Swoon πΊπΈ Contemporary Art β’ Street Art β’ Art For Sale, by Backpack Punk on Oct 30, 2007 16:04:41 GMT 1, Just as a heads up to people who saw the 1k Swoon the other day, that seller gets high values on all of his auction and I have a really good feeling that there is some sort of shill bidding going on. I know I shouldn't call anyone out without real proof but look at his past auctions and tell me something doesn't smell fishy. Also as my only proof, I was bidding on his Faile Dog on butcher paper the first time he put up the auction, it went for 330 something, after 4 days I received an email from the seller saying he didn't think he was going to receive payment from the high bidder and offered it to me for 5.00 less then my high bid.

Swoon πΊπΈ Contemporary Art β’ Street Art β’ Art For Sale, by manchestermike on Oct 30, 2007 17:29:36 GMT 1, You pick up this working girl who's hooked on smack, who hustles and scores, that's all I do she says, she says 10 bucks for head, 15 for half and half, she says, 3 hits a day at 35 per you say that's 7 tricks a day at least but she says, sometimes I get lucky, once this guy gives me a bill and a half just to eat me, only time I ever came.
You figure you can save her...
You sell your colour TV that keeps her off the streets a whole day, you hawk your typewriter for one jolt then your shotgun, your watch, a week later you say listen I'm a little short, but she says no scratch, no snatch. You say look, it is better to give, but she says, be gone - creep. One night they spot you on the street in your skivvies tryin' to sell your shoes. You tell them who you are but they nail you, then she happens by and she says, Christ you look fucked, she says, hang tough. But you don't say anything. You just think what a bum wrap for a nice sensitive guy like me.

I last heard it while walking across the desert at dawn. It was pumping out of a mahoosive sound system on the other side of Black Rock City. I smiled and recited every word, while bouncing around like a yo-yo.
"What a bum wrap for a nice sensitive guy like me..." Poetry with a slamming beat!
