Beejoir ๐ฌ๐ง LV Child โข Imodium โข Colour of Money, by Existencil on Jul 25, 2007 9:50:41 GMT 1, Hey,
I'm thinking about heading down to the Leonard Street Gallery to try & get one of the new prints. I only have enough money for one of them, but I can't decide whether to go for the Beejoir edition of 125 or the Mantis edition of 40.
What do you guys think?

Hi Stuey. Welcome to the forum. With respect, you've asked a few questions like this. It all depends on your motivation for buying. I would advise you to consider which one you like the best and which you will put up in a frame on your wall at home. They are both very different and very thought provoking prints.

Maybe we're not learning from the mistakes they made, history repeating itself and all that, don't know don't really get it either.

Beejoir ๐ฌ๐ง LV Child โข Imodium โข Colour of Money, by katokato on Jul 25, 2007 10:52:33 GMT 1, I really dont understand the interest in both artists. They seem to take a comman or well known image and desperatly try to attach some socio-political reference in the vain attempt at making a 'point'. I can just imagine the two artists with their previous prints surfing the web for the perfect picture of an ethiopian. Ethiopian + symbol of excess = "really great political piece". Could it be any more cliched, oh yes it could add some drips!! Do any of you actually like these prints, I think its obvoius Stuey*Esquire doesnt or he wouldnt be asking peoples opinions. If you liked the piece youd buy it.

Its a deal on the Mantis. Although I fear at an issue of 40 you will struggle (release date still tba as well).
Obviously make sure you get your SBFO 1st. Good luck with that (there is a rumor going round that it might not be available for release Thursday).

Perhaps but the main thing you have failed to appreciate is that these images by both Beejoir and Mantis were street pieces first and foremost. The prints came later, effectively as an afterthought. As street pieces both of these images are incredibly striking.

Whilst I appreciate the message the Mantis piece is trying to give out..it looks ugly to me.
I buy art that I can appreciate on my wall everyday, the Mantis is something I would enjoy at the Found exhibition, but not in my home.

This isn't for the love of art but simply an investment oppurtunity

The political statements in Banksy's most recent work were starting to grate a little and to now see everyone else trying the same thing makes me a bit sick. In studios all around the world we hear the collective scraping of a barrel that Banksy emptied a long time ago. That aside I still wouldn't buy any of these prints, they're just not nice. Why not save up and get a nice Adam Neate print?
