Beejoir π¬π§ LV Child β’ Imodium β’ Colour of Money, by bobbyt23 on Jul 4, 2007 16:57:22 GMT 1, Dont get me wrong I love the LV Child and cant wait for mine to turn up. But I dont think an unsigned from a version of 400 is a fair swap for a signed Mantis of 77.

I'll 2nd that.
No offence to SOS (or anyone actually) but the whole Mantis package is superior to the LV Child print of 400

Not stick of celery... what about an unsigned Banksy of 500?
It depends on the owners valuation of the prints

Unsigned Banksy part x you're prolly looking at Β£500 - Β£600 + the print for the more recent prints e.g. LA / Flags. Straight swap for a Mantis? Simply put - No.

A valid point indeed. I didn't specifically mean to focus on the edition size. I think if you were talking about the signed version then it'd be a completely different story.
Personnally I just think the Mantis is going to be worth a lot more than the u/s LV so not a fair trade. But it all comes down to which image the person prefers in the end of the day.

i'll revisit this in a year or two, but I see the unsigned LV Child absolutely destroying the Mantis print in terms of value...

I would agree. Mantis' work is way too derivative. Although well done this stuff is just riding the current wave of folks that can't afford a Banksy now. I don't see it going anywhere in the long run. Originality means everything in terms of longevity or just beng a footnote in my opinon.
I don't love LV Child like everyone else here seems to, but that print definitely has something more and orginal going on.

Beejoir π¬π§ LV Child β’ Imodium β’ Colour of Money, by finsburyparkranger on Jul 4, 2007 19:27:29 GMT 1, I personally think that LV child is a far more intelligent image than the mantis print. I think LV child is a bloody masterpiece. Saying that as an image its best found on the wall outside as a statement to the crowds and does lose its sincerity when homed in a half a million pound house. The Mantis on the other hand is not so clever or even as well executed IMO but it sits guilt free in large gold fame and is a healthy reminder for every home of the horror of war whilst oddly being a pleasing image. Although its a bit unfair to pit them against each other. They're both great examples political street art and both should be celebrated IMO.

No way IMO.
The fact that there's 400 LV's around compared to 77, LV is unsigned whereas AFD is signed, and the AFD is a less controversial easier to live with image. They'll be quite a few LVs coming up on ebay quite often, but that won't be the case with the AFDs.

Print run numbers don't always come into it IMO, look at Flying Copper, Flags etc
