Dolk Rip On / Rip Off May 24th , by Daniel Silk on Jun 19, 2016 15:38:42 GMT 1, Sorry, but the (UAA) Urban Art Association doesn't have any kind of collective opinion or agenda on Artists or Galleries, and my posts are made by me in my real name Daniel Silk. I prefer to run this as a forum with everyone equal in having the same freedoms to create threads and posts about whatever they like or don't like. I really wish that was true.... And shouldn't all guards be using their real names by now? Yeah, I think that would be a good idea.

It sounds like I'm being told I should only post about Artists of a particular standard. But it's unclear how that standard is set, judged and by who?

Dolk Rip On / Rip Off May 24th , by Daniel Silk on Jun 19, 2016 16:02:55 GMT 1, I really wish Dolk has a seriously massive show in London, I mean a big space and a collection of work built up over a few years, coz I feel like he still hasn't really got the recognition he deserves in London.

Dolk Rip On / Rip Off May 24th , by 1978per on Jun 19, 2016 16:08:46 GMT 1, On my cell phone here so not all in order, but should give a view on these new works. I love these. Massive amount of works into every piece and they really are impressive looking. I recommend picking up a copy of the book which is very nice. A few pages there explaining a bit background info of both concepts and an interview with dolk which is rare. The rest is pages with the works in both outside and inside environments. 200 pages and will not available for long I think.

Dolk Rip On / Rip Off May 24th , by Daniel Silk on Jun 19, 2016 16:10:50 GMT 1, I wonder if any of those pieces have fallen off? I would be so nervous as a gallery if anyone touched them in case a bit came off.

Dolk Rip On / Rip Off May 24th , by FЯ on Jun 19, 2016 16:17:17 GMT 1, The new Sandra Chevrier print will be out next week. Act like a cocky p*ick then. Nah FR is done with Sandra now, he has milked it dry, in fact milked it so hard and fast, everybody on here has noticed, he will go into the next thing .......... In fact maybe Daniel silk should take note if FR hasn't latched onto Cartrain then surely Cartrain really iss**t. Just saying Blimey, someone has a worry.

It's comments like this that bring this forum in to disrepute. That make artists leave or think twice about posting their work. Why is it not enough to say that it's not the type of work you like? No need to be so disrespectful.

Dolk Rip On / Rip Off May 24th , by 1978per on Jun 19, 2016 17:31:29 GMT 1, what is it ? pieces of metal on painted wood or canvas ? Canvas all of them. But all canvases have solid wood on the back, I guess to have something solid to shoot every one of the approximately 100.000 staples per canvas into. :-) . A piece of paper is stapled to the canvas and ripped off, leaving a small piece of paper. This is repeated gazillion of times making the patterns with both the paper and the staples. The background colours differs along with the color of the paper. The pieces are quite big (smallest one being 180x180cm) and I must say the three big black and white ones placed next to each other are fantastic.
The rip on piece with laser cut holes in the aluminum surface works well binding these two exhibitions together and also have a reference to the stencil art with the subtle spray paint in one of the holes (there is a picture in the book with dolk using the rip on piece as a stencil for spraying). Anyway. Enjoy. Pictures don't do these justice obviously, but enough to keep the discussion going for both parties on this board.

Thank you for explaining the process. And thanks for the pictures.
I do wonder whether this move to contemporary abstract art is a permanent one, and if so, whether he will continue with stencil work at the same time. I also wonder whether he will continue to do street work, as it's difficult to see how this work would translate to the streets.

Dolk Rip On / Rip Off May 24th , by erik on Jun 19, 2016 18:24:24 GMT 1, This is what the man himself has to say (translated from Norwegian):
"I no longer felt a desire to work with stensils. That part of my life is on hold. Everyone wanted stencils except me . I had outgrown them. I also felt that my ideas were no longer something special and found it increasingly difficult to express them in new works. " - Dolk

Dolk Rip On / Rip Off May 24th , by 1978per on Jun 19, 2016 19:13:47 GMT 1, Thanks Erik. Answers some of the questions I was pondering. check out the book @coach. There is an introduction chapter and an interview (both in english) which do give a little background story and indication of what to expect. It also pictures a lot more works he's done which are not part of the exhibitions.

Dolk Rip On / Rip Off May 24th , by mehor on Jun 20, 2016 19:04:39 GMT 1, considering what many expected, especially after the Nuart Festival. this rip off / rip on show is much better than expected. but i agree, he is now in a new field of art and has to stand his value in respect to other contemporary artist. good luck to him. i will continue to follow his work....
