I agree with the many comments above: this is a dangerous situation.

The auction house will appear for many as a way to validate an unauthenticated artwork. Somehow, if an artwork goes through an auction house, there is a belief that due diligence has been done and therefore there is a minimum of work that has been done to legitimate the piece.
We have a case here of a company not doing anything, really, and creating a fake sentiment of legitimacy.
This is is cheating the buyers (the auction premium is paid against a service), promoting bad sellers and hurting the overall art market. One bad apple...

Hahaha, pretty pretty decent ROI there... I used to think I vaguely understood the art market, but between this and the Jonas Wood / Kaws open editions going for thousands despite still being available at source, I'm just confused as basic supply and demand principles don't seem to apply any more. Is this just lazy / naive buyers who don't have a clue what they're getting and haven't had a cursory Google before they bid, or something else?
