Mehdi Ghadyanloo 🇮🇷 Mural Painter • Iran • Art For Sale, by londonfx on Mar 18, 2016 14:46:33 GMT 1, Apart from the obvious edge damage already spoken about in this thread, has anyone else had any packaging problems?
Mine was so tightly rolled that it took a real effort to get the print out of the tube. And when I did the print sprung out, twice the diameter of the tube. And it was rolled touching the inside of the tube.
It's such thick paper, that it's going to take weeks to relax before I can flatten it

Mehdi Ghadyanloo 🇮🇷 Mural Painter • Iran • Art For Sale, by Deleted on Mar 18, 2016 15:07:54 GMT 1, My one arrived without any damage but like you say londonfx it's going to take ages to flatten as the print was quite tightly rolled.
Also no tape holding the brown paper together so the print was hard against the inside of the tube.

So it's like literally a print edition for every piece he does - almost? And killing his market at the same time?

Why does it kill his market though? They're low editions that sell out, so gives more peoe chance to have one and more choice over image

Who wants to pay money for an 'original' when nobody has a clue if it is going to become an edition, and that tendency is high? Or is this guy and gallery selling prints as their main livelihood? If yes, okay print all you want.

There is a big difference between an original and a print edition.
I own the original of one of his first prints that doesn't devalue it for me as I would always want a canvas on my wall over a print

What's your take if say, you buy all 3 of those originals and suddenly in these few months, editions of each come out one after another? Okay I know the possibility of having all 3 of the originals are impossible, but you get what I mean. If one just wants the image, the edition is not going to cost that much.
Anyway I doubt he has been releasing print that fast and furious when you bought your original. Or you probably won't know he is gonna even release an edition of the one you have.

That said if you purchased an original with no intention of selling I dont think you would be happy at been able to buy a print at a lesser cost and also knowing that others will have the same image on their walls ....
If that makes sense

I don't speak in context of all artists and artwork in this world. I'm commenting more on this particular artist and the manner in which this gallery is milking the hell out of this artist, and where prints are released at such speed. For every coach, there could very well be a natstan who will wait for a print off the original simply because he don't have that much cash to spare on something that is not exclusive - if this OG---print release thingy proves to be a formula.

I don't have the funds for an original either. Nor a print at the moment. I was speaking hypothetically.

If you're concerned that an original will become a print edition, do a commission. That way an artist with their integrity intact will ask permission to do a print edition of the commission.

Its tbe issue that artits seem to just spit out a print just for the sake of a few extra buvks or to ride the current wave of popularity before the light goes dim however any artist worth their weight knows its about longevity and we are seeing less and less of this, go back and read som posts about artists from 5 yrs ago and see how many of you have even heard of tjem or know who they are, its like an episode of where are they now... And its worse when artists with real talent and real ideas follow suite of the martin whatsons of tje art world

I cannot put mehdi on the same page as kaws as they are quite literally in different leagues - one being internationally recognized and long established with a long history/ portfolio and millions of fans all over the world. No matter how many editions he make, it won't be enough to cater to his rich and ever-growing collectors. And we all know fairey prints are sold dirt cheap and obey is now an international fashion brand as well. To me, it has crossed over to the pop culture side. I don't really look at him simply as an artist anymore. How do you compare these people with mehdi, who only recently gained some prominence, largely unknown to the art world and churns out prints of almost every single piece he ever did (okay pardon me if I'm exagerating here abit)? It's very obviously a marketing move to get as many people who are into his stuff at the moment to buy in and make $ first and foremost. Talking about quality, who can forget the recent episode of the subpar printing for that release 3 months or so back? This artist may have talent and something to say (and I do like his images) but I can't help thinking the manner in which his gallery is pushing their luck with all these releases in such a short span of time is irritating me. And killing this artist's 'exclusivity' along the way.
