Banksy • Medicom • Brandalised , by Con Art Studio on Dec 29, 2015 22:36:34 GMT 1, This was kicking around a few months ago - I thought Jo Brooks denied any involvement. It looks like they were being very loose with the statement and the word 'official' was more that the image was 'officially Banksy' as opposed to Fake or someone else. the problem i have is in the description where it says "official Banksy piece"... it is an "official piece inspired by a banksy image" but it is definitely NOT an "official Banksy piece"

Toy Tokyo.
'No details are given, considering the fact that everyone should already be aware of how secretive Banksy is...not even sure if he ever signs anything anyway. But, everyone should take into consideration that Medicom is pretty legit when it comes to licensing, etc...so they're not going to blatantly rip off a world renowned artist'.

Banksy • Medicom • Brandalised , by Black Apple Art on Dec 30, 2015 1:49:40 GMT 1, Wording is very strange. To be "officially licensed" they would have to have an agreement with the license holder. Also like how they word the edition as "extremely limited" but are taking pre-orders for a week and obviously manufacturing to fulfill those orders. Nicely detailed piece though.

Banksy • Medicom • Brandalised , by Tommy Tucker on Dec 30, 2015 13:09:40 GMT 1, This is a tricky one isn't it? Unlikely Banksy to say anything until the sale has ended to add more mystique. It looks great but if it isn't official then it is being mis-sold which isn't cool.

Banksy • Medicom • Brandalised , by met on Dec 30, 2015 18:39:50 GMT 1, I imagine that you are right. Knockoffs and other intellectual property infringements are one thing. But if a non-authorised, unofficial product is being marketed as "official", then (despite any carefully deceptive wording) we're also in the territory of misrepresentation or outright fraud.
It's a question of degree and, in such a case, I imagine Banksy would care.
What it probably comes down to is having to choose one's battles. No doubt his team is already fighting on multiple fronts as it is, exhausting resources which could otherwise be applied towards creative endeavours. My guesstimate is that a few lifetimes (and a few lifetimes' worth of employee wages) could theoretically be spent just chasing after all the crap listed as "Banksy" on eBay.

Banksy will not do anything to block this release. I am sure Banksy is already aware of it.
Can you think of a time when Banksy proactively went after any entity or person in regards to violating his intellectual property? I'd like to know why you used the words "no doubt." That would mean you know about a time the Banksy team (I assume you mean legal team) went after someone or group of people.
BNE aside... That was something else and in actuality Banksy did nothing to stop or go after them later, only changed the website for a bit.

Banksy • Medicom • Brandalised , by saucyjack on Dec 30, 2015 20:06:59 GMT 1, Certainly not go after the people all over the city selling knock off canvases, t-shirts and other misc. tat.
Banksy would want the services of an attorney for a variety of reasons: a Property Attorney (securing the space for the 2006's Barely Legal show), an Entertainment Attorney (for use in The Simpsons or ETTGS), or any other myriad of things.
Is your contact an attorney whose specialization is intellectual property or copyright?
Can you think of a specific time when you've read about a proactive attempt by Banksy to stop a case of potential copyright infringement?

I imagine that makes those little flashing boxes at the top of this page nervous. Though I bet they'd deny it and claim business has never been better.

Banksy • Medicom • Brandalised , by Hairbland on Jan 2, 2016 14:43:36 GMT 1, Who would buy this tat anyway? What a horrible piece of vomit, buy a Ken doll and dress him up. Sad end to street art Not sure if it's an end to "urban art", as Medicom worked earlier with KAWS on a number of pieces including his Accomplices.
To some a toy, to others a piece of Banksy...and to others a potentially fine investment with a better turnaround than most other financial investments. The KAWS Accomplice originally sold for approximately $100-$200 dollars, I bought one from someone mid-2010 for $500 and sold it last year for $1,500. In all likelihood this Banksy piece will be a nice investment that could fuel other purchases over time - history has already proven this with Medicom and KAWS.
As to Toy Tokyo, I live in Brooklyn and am well-familiar with them, while a fun store they have always charged the highest prices with at times absurd markups, however they've managed to stay in business while many similar have failed. Smart shoppers, who are not the world's majority, can easily find better prices elsewhere.
And yes this post is about "the financial", but as it is an object, not necessarily art.
