Donald Trump, by searchandrescue on Nov 9, 2016 14:40:06 GMT 1, Ahoy Hoy Nordicstar, appreciate your terror of the Trump, I whole heartedly disagree with much of what he has done. Re: the golf course, can you elucidate as to how the golf course got there in the first place? I'm not clear about it's genesis. thanks, will view entire film in due course, but not sure who gave him permission to build the golf course in the first place? It must have passed planing etc? Sand dunes / beaches don't come with 18 holes so who agreed it should be built and what if anything did they get in return?

Donald Trump, by Deleted on Nov 9, 2016 15:48:44 GMT 1, Good Morning kintoreton, good to speak with you. Much respect. Love this forum and those who enable and contribute to it. I think we are probably all reeling from a series of recent seismic global and political events that are going to bring rise to significant change. Uncomfortable perhaps, but I have much faith in the good that people do. Keep caring, keep loving and keep creating. In the immortal words of Fraser Moss and Jimmy Collins "YOU MUST CREATE" (YMC) no probs S&R, I'm full of sh!te at the best of times, I guess I must still be suffering my Brexit hangover

It must have passed planing etc? Sand dunes / beaches don't come with 18 holes so who agreed it should be built and what if anything did they get in return? This golf course is about 15 mins from where I live and it was a saga. It had planning permission from the local council but it meant compulsory house and land purchase orders thus displacing many residents whose families had lived their for generations. As far as I know it was all done legally but the tactics adopted to displace some elderly residents didn't show anyone in the Trump camp in a good light to put it mildly.
It went on for years and was never out of the local press and occasionally national press. We were promised thousands of jobs and a 5 star hotel but none of that has happened and hasn't been mentioned for a few years now.
At one point in time President Elect Trump "appeared" to be close to Scotlands thenFirst Minister but that is no longer the case and the present First Minister is looking to ban The Donald from setting foot here again

Donald Trump, by Deleted on Nov 9, 2016 16:32:21 GMT 1, Well, I will fully admit that my understanding of US politics has slipped and I did not have the grasp on the electorate that I thought I had. Congrats to the far superior prognosticators and I admit I obviously know less than I had thought.
With Obama, it was 'Hope' and 'Change' with no where near enough of the latter, for various reasons.
Now, there will be change. I hope it is for the best.

You are being far too clever for me Dear Doctor, I don't get the reference? Sorry, I was referring to how many men got upset about the new Ghostbusters film having a female cast.
Whether it's a difference in politics, frustration or a protest vote, many just voted for one of the least qualified men in America, over one of the most qualified women.
Like Brexit in the UK, leaders can appeal for unity, but half the population will feel very helpless and unrepresented right now.

Which I'm sure there'll be plenty of those.

Donald Trump, by NYart on Nov 9, 2016 22:31:22 GMT 1, I voted for Trump.
I didn't vote for who he is - a narcissist, billionaire, sexist. I also didn't vote for him in support of some of his "plans" like the Mexico wall, or the Muslim ban. I voted for him because of what he isn't and that is a career politician.
All of our problems in my opinion boils down to one thing, special interest money in politics. All the corporations throwing money at our politicians puts their interests above the American people and worlds best interest. Making us happy doesn't get them elected believe it or not. If their campaigns aren't funded and they don't have the resources to get their name out, they aren't going to have a job very long. Those that manage to keep their jobs have learned through their careers to play ball, and when a new congressmen does gets in pledging to "clean up Washington", he can't do it alone and will be out his next term.
Big moves need to be made to how our elections work in order to get our elected officials interests aligned with the public. A big start is removing the ability of corporations contributing to campaigns. Along with which significant term limits would go a long way to helping keep our candidates fresh and hopefully give more honest, real people a chance to make a positive impact. The problem is there's no motivation for any of them to ruin the good thing they have going. We need a person who doesn't have anything to lose by doing so, and Trump is the first whose come along in my lifetime who doesn't. Will he? Maybe not. But I know Clinton wouldn't.
Many of people's biggest fears about what Trump may or may not do are pretty unfounded. Is it realistic or possible to ban muslims outright? Not a chance. Build a wall across the border of Mexico? Nope. Can he increase background checks, screenings, and border patrol? Sure but that's not such a terrible thing. His biggest issue is he doesn't thing before he talks. However his success in business eases my concerns because he must put more thought into his actions before he makes them than his thought to his words. Think he is going to start World War III? Well the president can't declare war without congressional approval. Sure hypothetically he could instigate another country to the point where they make the first move, but if that's the case we have a country with a leader more dangerous than Trump.
I respect that others may feel what he has done and said as unfit for leadership of the free world, and to be honest I don't disagree. However I feel like he is the best chance we have of breaking that status quo and opening up the door to real progress. He's a narcissist billionaire, what does he have to gain from this? I think he's just seeking approval for his self esteem and that means he should be working for our interest, not the systems. I think he's for the greater good.

We've all had bad flights, but I wouldn't remove a qualified pilot because an enthusiastic amateur wants to have a go.
And Trump will be all about making money and screwing the environment.
Many people voted for Brexit in the UK because they were tired of the status quo and wanted to send a message to the establishment. Which is fine in principal, as long as your protest doesn't result in other people's lives becoming more difficult.
Also, endorsing ghastly people, whatever our reasons, sends a message to others. That could be sending the message that it's ok to be racist. Ok to be sexist. Ok to avoid paying taxes. Ok to run your businesses immorally. Ok to be fearful of others. Ok to hate.
I respect your commenting on here.

Ok to hate.

Donald Trump, by Deleted on Nov 9, 2016 23:00:05 GMT 1, I voted for Trump. Thats not a fair analogy
A fair one might be, just because we always did it that way, doesn't mean its right, and i think thats where the majority of voters are
Its the tipping point, the establishment are getting a back lash worldwide as people become more educated and realise governments are run by corporations and shareholders, and the working/middle class person are no more than slaves to the system
No one wanted trump
But they didn't want him less than they didn't want Clinton
Like a lot of recent votes, we seem to be missing a 3rd option

Neither will Trump. The Republicans won't let him. Who will make the lives of the working class harder?
And endorsing an arsehole tells others arseholes that it's ok to be arseholes.
