Seth Globepainter π¨π΅ Julien Malland β’ Paris Street Art, by kbfrombk on Jul 5, 2017 16:41:23 GMT 1, OK So I'm hoping you wise and kind creatures might be of some assistance to me in this pickle I find myself in, seemingly worsening with every turn.
I bought this print and was excited to receive it. After about 5-6 days I finally had a chance to open the tube and unroll the print before loading it into my flat file.
As I unrolled, I noticed something worrisome. The craft paper accompanying the print had noticeable furls in it. As the unrolling went on, the furling worsened and I came to see it was all over the edges of the print, clearly damaged. Inspecting the tube carefully, no dents whatsoever were found. The tube was in perfect condition, the print, sadly, far from it.
Pix attached*
I then contacted Nicolas at AGENCE SIX PM. The response should have set red flags immediately, but my calmer nature prevailed and I took the red pill. He responded that there were two options:
Now of course after dropping over $500 only to receive this mangled paper, I'm sure most would empathize, I wasn't in a rush to pay even more to a framer to repair it (especially, being a large sized print, that framing cost would be prohibitive in the immediate future).
So I chose the other option. Send it back. I emailed asking for a return label. I was told no. I was told that I was lucky to even be offered a refund because:
I quipped in reply, that this print was not damaged in the mail but instead damaged during the course of packaging, clearly. No answer from them on that issue.
I paid $47 to mail this ruined print back to France via USPS. As I'm sure many are well aware, USPS is also fun. Tracking shows only that the print was routed back to Brooklyn and delivered. After retrieving the tube from my old address and bringing it back to USPS, I got a chuckle and a nod, and the lady said she would send it back out that day, and that all documentation I had originally attached, was valid and correct. To date the only recent tracking status is of that erroneous Bklyn delivery. After that, there's not been a peep. Nor a ping.
That was about 3 weeks ago.
Nicolas nor Guillaume said they received the tube. I assume the tube is in outer space by this time.
Unfortunately so is the $580 I have sucked into this stupid print to date.
I was going to warn them before putting them on blast but decided why bother, and just go ahead without it.
These guys have been swine from the get. I understand I'm most likely just "beat, sorry brah" status, but still felt compelled that I should at least give a warning notice to the gents and ladies of UAA. Aside from that if anyone does have any helpful ideas for me, I'd love to hear them.
Several of you know from our friendly, positive past dealings, that issues like these are not what I'm accustomed to; certainly the remedy of any such issue would be paramount.
Definitely has put a sour, rotten taste in my mouth.

I assume the tube is in outer space by this time. Unfortunately so is the $580 I have sucked into this stupid print to date. 1. 3 Weeks isn't long from US to Europe with USPS... Hold tight, it will probably turn up. 2. It might have been better to ask if you could have just destroyed the damaged print, and sent them proof. Especially as you're in the US, and postage is costly. 3. They should have paid for the postage (but that's the least of the problems)

Beyond that, assuming you paid with credit card you could attempt a chargeback. I'm not sure why they had you ship back an unsaleable print anyways. A thorough destruction is generally the best option for everyone involved.

Seth Globepainter π¨π΅ Julien Malland β’ Paris Street Art, by natstan on Jul 5, 2017 17:08:20 GMT 1, From your description, it sure sounds like they don't put customers first. All they need to do is to ask you to tear it up and send them a pic for a refund to you and then write this ed off. What are they waiting to do with the returned damaged print anyway? What, are they gonna send it to a conservator to repair it and then sell it on at market value (not that I think it's worth that much more than retail anyway). It's still fundamentally a damaged (and worthless) print no matter what you do to it.

Seth Globepainter π¨π΅ Julien Malland β’ Paris Street Art, by spirit on Jul 5, 2017 18:31:26 GMT 1, Whenever you send something high value through the post you need to make sure it is insured. If the tracking comes to a dead end and the print is not delivered/lost in the post (as sometimes happens) then you claim on the insurance.
While the gallery could certainly have dealt with this better, and destroying the print is the usual course of action in this scenario, insuring it when you posted it is down to you I'm afraid.
And for future reference, don't just insure it with anyone - most of the major postal services/couriers have small print which states that works of art are excluded from the policy - which people often only find out once they try and make a claim and are refused...
Regardless, I'm sorry you had this experience.

Seth Globepainter π¨π΅ Julien Malland β’ Paris Street Art, by kbfrombk on Jul 6, 2017 2:11:02 GMT 1, mla I filed a chargeback with my card/bank, thank you! Might be dicy though with the USPS fckup in return shipping. I know I marked value as $20 (since, it was a turd, after all), but not sure if that clicks on the insurance too, or whether there's a default base insured amount.
At the end of the week I'll shoot Agence another email letting them know they're on blast here, and about the chargeback.
Hopes are not high.
Thanks for the cheers though everyone.

Spoke to USPS Int'l Division on the phone. Just so happens the tube was delivered this morning, according to his screen! Since it had originally been marked as delivered in Brooklyn, the updates on my side of the screen ended there; but he emailed me his screen with the delivery confirmed, and I'm elated and impressed with USPS: redeemed!
Emailed the guys at A6 -- hope to have a resolution within days. Fingers crossed.

It was fake as hell, I actually reported it to ebay weeks ago. it was signed a different year (he wrote 2016 while the print is 2015 written in roman numbers XV) and dimensions were wrong. That guy sells a lot cheaper but he signs the prints, as long as they're all different from artist ones.
