Banksy HMV Print, by numusic on Feb 6, 2007 23:46:33 GMT 1,
looks fine, red tag, black tag, numbered right, left, horizontal, vertical. In the early days POW pretty much did it blindfolded. This has the receipt so shouldn't be an issue.

Banksy HMV Print, by grt on Sept 27, 2006 15:49:31 GMT 1, Hi i just found this site whilst i was bored browsing and decided to have a look at some banksy stuff to see what prints are for sale.
Anyhow it seems prices have gone up a touch since i got mine.
i have read the other thread with regards to what the run of prints consisted of i.e number signed tagged etc and i have a few questions that you ppl may be able to help me with.
I have an HMV print numbered 23/150 in the bottom right in pencil and a pencil signature banksy 03.
Both are located in the bottom right hand corner.
There is no 'tag' anywhere on it and i cant remember if it has a POW stamp as it has been framed for 3 years(but i assume it will as that is where it was purchased)
so my question is how much is it worth (both on the market and for insurance purposes) and does it not having a tag and a stamp affect its value?
Any help u can give me would be appreciated.
Cheers!

Banksy HMV Print, by grt on Sept 27, 2006 18:44:46 GMT 1, Firstly i would like to apologise to admin as i have already posted this thread under the HMV print section but i feel it may be more suited to here on reflection.- please feel free to delete the other one.
I have been looking around today when i was just surfing and discovered that signed prints seem to have gone up a bit in price since i bought mine for £150 a few years ago.
Having done some reading on this site and elsewhere i have found some things out with regards to the different numbering/runs.
I have an HMV signed in pencil and numbered 23/150 (both in the bottom right hand corner of the print).
However i do not think that my print contains an embossed stamp from POW where it was bought in late 2003. It also does not contain any banksy 'tag' in either red or white.
My question is how much should i insure this for and how much is it actually worth.
Also if i can not find the receipt do u know if POW keep a record of the prints they sell and will be able to issue me wiht a replacement receipt?
Many thanks in advance.

Hi mate, difficult top give a valuation on any Banksy prints at the mo, prices are fluctuating wildly. HMV went for around 500 last month, but could hit 1000 this week over on ebay. Barcode went for 800 last week and 1800 this week, doesn't mean to say that all our barcodes are now worth 1800 though. Insure it for minimum 1250-1500 sterling which is what it'd probably cost to replace it from a recognised gallery dealer.
No stress regarding the tag or POW stamp for valuation, but I guess if two were on offer people would prefer the 'with', then again, the without were the earlier ones and yours is a very low number, so maybe it's more desirable. Depends who's buying I guess. POW do keep a database of all their sales on file. They'll probably tell you who owns it and maybe help you out if you are the original owner, probably not if it's sold on, this would be due to the risk of people using the new receipt to validate possible backdoor prints.
Hope that helps ;D

Banksy HMV Print, by grt on Sept 27, 2006 19:40:31 GMT 1, Cheers for the info mate:
I appreciate that it must be hard to value prints at the mo but that sounds like a price to insure it at. (I did much searching around before i posted here trying to find a dealer that had it for sale but with no luck!
As for the stamp etc - i am the original owner so i will contact POW (was actually a 21st b'day present from my bro and sis- Best present i have ever had- it takes pride of place abocve my turntables)
Cheers

Banksy HMV Print, by headphonesex on Sept 27, 2006 21:28:53 GMT 1, I'd say it'd definitely be worth around £2k at the moment.
You have to assume the signed prints will be at least double the unsigned.
Also, I doubt that any of the signed HMVs were stamped. I wouldn't hassle POW unless you're planning to sell it right now. Let's face it, you know it's genuine, and you'll be able to confirm that in fhe future if you ever did sell it.

Banksy HMV Print, by grt on Sept 28, 2006 19:30:15 GMT 1, yeah it is signed.
I thought that when you said £1250 to £1500 it may be a bit low as i have seen unsigned prints that were available when i bought mine (same amount printed etc) at some gallery (it is in the links page i think! and they were for £950- but as i am not as in touch with the prices as u guys are i thought it best not to argue! lol
Anyway i phoned POW and they dont issue receipts but they told me that i am recorded on the database so i can always prove its genuine if (and it is not ever going to happen) i want to sell it.
Thanks for your help guys- it is appreciated

Banksy HMV Print, by grt on Aug 16, 2007 12:35:36 GMT 1, Hello peeps havnt lurked round here for a while but i have a question for you guys (please dont feel like i am using you!! lol)
Basically i have owned a signed HMV print from new but now due to financial circumstances i have decided to sell it.
i was wanting to know the best way to do this.
obviously there is ebay but i have also been speaking to galleries and dealers and they seem to be able to give me a better price.
Do i sell it outright to a dealer or is it better to let a gallery show it then take a % when it is sold. Having spoken to some people the thought is that it would sell for circa 7k outside a gallery and about 12k in one.
One gallery has said they would market it at 11k.
Now all this is a bit new to me so was just wondering if you guys can give me any advice? How would you do it?
Anyway help would be appreciated.
G
P.S. it is signed 03 in bottom right corner has been professionally framed frm new and does not carry the tag or POW stamp.

I guess it is partly down to the fact that collectors of contempory art, for most of them, do not deal on ebay but with galleries. When spending thousand of pounds in a piece or when dealling with a new comer, it is probably be better and comfortable to meet the gallerist and build a trust relationship with them rather than a login name! I guess a lot of person prefer dealling with them, other do both some just ebay... Each to their own. Regarding your piece, if you are in a rush to sell, ebay will be the option. If not and even with the gallery comission, going down the gallery route will maybe get you a little more for it.

Banksy HMV Print, by runningdog on Aug 16, 2007 19:45:43 GMT 1, Try a reputable Auction house. Sothebys sells Banksy stuff. An unsigned Love Rat print went for £1600 recently, at a time when the Ebay typical selling price was £800. The auction seller would have made around £1100. At an auction house you have direct access to bigtime collectors who want to show off to each other. They also take about 20% from you or less, unlike the 50% a gallery wants.
However the turnaround is months, as opposed to a couple of weeks on Ebay.

Banksy HMV Print, by grt on Aug 17, 2007 13:39:53 GMT 1, many thanks for all your replies- i have just heard back from one of the galleries who has sadi that they are not interested as it does not have a POW stamp or banksy tag.
is this going to be an issue in trying to sell it do you think?
Also i am a bit unsure as to how trustworthy the online gallleries are- can anyone recommend any they have used or know about?
cheers

As long as it is registered, numbered and mint condition it is fine. Some like to have the tag and stamp but not all have them so not really an issue.
