Alec Monopoly πΊπΈ Graffiti β’ Street Art β’ Print Release, by Deleted on Sept 13, 2015 22:30:29 GMT 1,
Β I gargled him too and saw what looks like a copy of the Monopoly board game ripped off and other cartoon caracters with some added stuff.
All the pro write ups are or were just hype and paid for marketing.
It seems that people buy anything if a PR comapany tells them it's great.
Β Β Β Β Β Β I guess people like stuff that is easy to understand visualy while they are told all the celebs are buying it.
Β Maybe Monopoly or whatever his name is took advantage of the artist that came up with the visuals or did the actual work.
So now Monopoly looks like just another Milli Vanilli
Β Koons is the same as he just rips off stuff thats been designed and made by others.
Koons is just upfront about being a s**t artist whereas Monopoly maybe wanted to convince people he actually painted the stuff.

Alec Monopoly πΊπΈ Graffiti β’ Street Art β’ Print Release, by met on Sept 15, 2015 22:17:17 GMT 1, Funny thing is...I first found out about this about 2.5 years ago. I found it baffling how it had lasted that long to begin with, and I constantly got amazed that it hadn't been "leaked" since then. But I guess it's better that he got outed by Mike instead of leaked by a third party when Mike and Alec were still in bed with each other. @martedanielsen I wish we could breath a sigh of relief however until it catches momentum and gets written up or covered by hype beast, juxtapose, tmz, etc it won't make too much of an effect on Alec. From a loss-cutting perspective, the friend you were selling for in this thread did very well by dumping their Alec Monopoly canvas in March or April this year.
I wonder what price would have been achievable from the same buyer (a forum member?) if that sale had taken place today. No doubt a good deal lower than five months ago.
Fortunately you were offloading for a friend, rather than looking to purchase on their behalf, as was the case with the enabler in this WTB thread β which arguably constitutes the art equivalent of a feeder/feedee relationship.

Alec Monopoly πΊπΈ Graffiti β’ Street Art β’ Print Release, by met on Sept 15, 2015 22:29:59 GMT 1, This guy's got some major shows coming up in Asia. Do these museums and galleries just not give a s**t? Galleries are no surprise here β many will simply exhibit what they can get away with selling.
Museums, however, are another thing entirely.
What major museum shows in Asia were you referring to? And are those specific institutions publicly funded?

Secondly, the person who bought the canvas later had gallery ties. Which I didn't know at the time. But no doubt made a hefty profit on it or still can.

Alec Monopoly πΊπΈ Graffiti β’ Street Art β’ Print Release, by met on Sept 16, 2015 0:30:09 GMT 1, Many thanks for the information.
That second link references a show in Hong Kong at Above Second, which is just another art gallery. Its Alec Monopoly exhibition looks to have been scheduled to coincide with Art Basel in Hong Kong, although the two are unrelated.
The first link, however, is quite interesting because I'd never previously heard of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Bangkok. It seems to be a relatively new private institution β housing the large personal collection of a telecommunications magnate, Boonchai Bencharongkul, whose focus is apparently modern and contemporary Thai art.
Perhaps Alec Monopoly's team were able to exploit a certain ignorance and convince the owner or curator that Monopoly's work was the next big thing, and that hosting an exhibition would place the museum ahead of the curve.
That said, the somewhat curious website of the museum makes no mention of any upcoming Monopoly exhibition.

Alec Monopoly πΊπΈ Graffiti β’ Street Art β’ Print Release, by rebelate on Sept 16, 2015 3:20:48 GMT 1, His operation is unraveling. Google Conner Tingley... Dropping like flies! You might want to be more specific than just googling "conner tingley" Everyone knows he "helps paint" Alec's stuff and was on his payroll. No surprise there, but if he's made a statement or something then just post the link you're referring to. I remember seeing him at Blick art supplies on Beverly Blvd a few times before I put two and two together. I realized I had seen him previously showing off his own art (probably off of IG) then his just style/demeanor reminded me of Alec Monopoly.. Then one night I saw Alec out at a local night club and seeing Conner is his entourage and thinking..."ok now we know who does his portrait work".
Regardless, how is it unravelling...? I never heard any rumors of Conner wanting to "out" Alec, not even recently... If anything no one even cares enough to publish anything about it.

Alec Monopoly πΊπΈ Graffiti β’ Street Art β’ Print Release, by met on Sept 18, 2015 22:57:40 GMT 1, Thank you for the link to the article, which I only just managed to read.
Despite some comments of interest, the credibility of this piece is completely undermined by its title: 'People Are Furious With Damien Hirst For Not Making His Own Art'
The author later reiterates the point by stating, "But the real reason Hirst is such a sore spot for many in the art community is that he doesn't physically create most of his own work."
I'm not sure what she based that on, or if she simply made it up, but it was as silly and as inaccurate in 2013 (when published) as it continues to be today.

Alec Monopoly πΊπΈ Graffiti β’ Street Art β’ Print Release, by ntmart on Sept 2, 2017 21:49:49 GMT 1, Hi All,
Apologies for the second post i should have included this with the Donuts one.
I also have an original Alec Monopoly piece for sale. It's from his show at LabArt in LA from 2013/14. I have correspondence with the gallery owner as provenance.
I have it listed on ebay atm for 12K GBP buy it now or best offer.
I expect there maybe a few comments regarding this sale!
It's a unique piece, a canvas with monopoly boards stuck to it with the Monopoly character spray painted on to the boards and then the lacquer applied. There are not many of the Monopoly board pieces available. I know galleries charge a fairly hefty whack for his work atm so at this price point there might be some interest.
Thanks for your interest,
NTM
