Alec Monopoly πΊπΈ Graffiti β’ Street Art β’ Print Release, by twist65 on Dec 19, 2013 23:51:36 GMT 1, This isn't true. He grew up in central Long Island. He built his career from scratch in the streets of NYC. His dad was into music in the 60s & 70s but is far from wealthy. He's a solid bloke who caught a break when Adrian Brody picked up a canvas a few years ago at Art Basel. Could be but multiple people have told me he is basically the Lana Del Rey of the art world. Fake back story with a huge bank account funding it all. I don't know the guy so you could be 100% correct. Regardless I think his work is pretty boring. Not as bad as MBW but nothing great and probably ridiculously over priced. I've heard his back story from various places too, in great detail. I don't know the artist personally either though, and don't mean any harm nrgball, but would bet a million pounds in monopoly money that the "building a career from scratch from the streets" story is fabricated to sound credible.
I haven't got a problem with him being out there, fair play, maybe in his position i'd do similar, but why not be honest about your background? His work isn't terrible but considering the subject of most of his work seems to be wealth, maybe it would have more relevance without the spin and bull? It is possible to be a credible artist and not hide your privileged background, just look at Jonathan Yeo.

Alec Monopoly πΊπΈ Graffiti β’ Street Art β’ Print Release, by graffuturism on Dec 20, 2013 0:30:16 GMT 1, I never get upset at artists like this because when its all said and done if they are or will be relevant it wont be due to how popular they are with celebrities, if a celebrity endorses your work I am sure it can open doors but if your own people and genre doesn't respect you then really what have you accomplished. Whats great about artists that garner the respect of their peers is that when they do get some fame and blow up there is no argument or Ill will.
I dont like his work personally but he seems to be successful so you cant hate the guy for that. We all have our favorites and not so favorites. You can pull the wool over the public or galleries only looking to cash in, but in time you will still have to deal with your peers and the real art writers that will establish who gets remembered in 20 years time. Our gatekeepers and critics are still forming.

Alec Monopoly πΊπΈ Graffiti β’ Street Art β’ Print Release, by HHills on Dec 22, 2013 2:19:31 GMT 1, AM is absolutely terrible and it is extremely obvious that he has no talent or originalityβ¦even less than the french guy who happens to be entertaining to watch at the least. Just take a look at any one of his very poor street piecesβ¦f'ing repulsive. I don't care if people who have money and no sense of style buy his work, his work just flat out sucks. He is definitely an insult to talented artists around the world.
Happy Holidays everyone!

Alec Monopoly πΊπΈ Graffiti β’ Street Art β’ Print Release, by dwight on Aug 6, 2014 16:41:00 GMT 1, I think Lab Art may own and have invented Alec Monopoly. Like when sketchers couldn't buy toms shoes so they invented bobs by copying toms business model. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Alec Monopoly seems to be the store's generic brand urban art.

Alec Monopoly πΊπΈ Graffiti β’ Street Art β’ Print Release, by mmmike on Jan 29, 2015 3:32:10 GMT 1, "iconic Alec Monopoly" bit of an oxymoron isn't it?
Just the other day I was thinking there is a lot of crap hyped on this forum but at least there isn't any talk of Alec Monopoly. This is a new low for the forum.
Trasbash are you related to Alec? Expensive gag gift?
