BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by BootjackBandit on Aug 24, 2015 4:04:43 GMT 1, The whole mocking Disney thing seems a bit trite and out of date, I feel it's been done a thousand thousand times already, even J-boy's done it for Gawd sake. Sick of seeing it tbh. i somewhat agree, however, this looks to be pretty epically done.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by quexzea on Aug 24, 2015 4:17:15 GMT 1, I was fortunate enough to get into the preview night and I was like a kid in a candy shop! The whole experience was simply amazing. I was just taken aback by whole atmosphere; the employees, the music, the scale and every single detail was just outstanding! There was just so much to take in and my attention was grabbed every time I turned around! It was a great evening and one that I won't forget! Just wish that drive wasn't so long. I have updated my ig (@european_bob) with some vids/pics and will be updating when I can. I know theres so many pics out there already. You should have been a part of the show Bob! I love your work and own two pieces. "Son Of A Bi-Bi-Bi..." and "Clouded This Boys Future Is".
Thanks for sharing your experience!

Agree 100% on the overused concept of Disney mockery. However, the size and scale of this thing is rather refreshing. The reactions and delight that has been created is amazing. I do hope that Mr. B evolves away from Disney mockery and focuses on more relevant social themes (which he has to some extent in WSM, so I give him a last pass on the mouse).

"A last pass"?... I think picking up a Wall and Piece and or Level of Threat would point out massive volumes of diversity, messages and mediums. To jump back to this as a vehicle to display new works, ideas and other artists at this scale for such an experience gives more than "a pass" for me but credit for pulling it off. Can't think or another artist that has done anything even close to this in scale or sophistication, ever.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by duggyfresh on Aug 24, 2015 8:32:32 GMT 1, How hard is it to get in? If I booked travel on a weekday, is it reasonable to expect to get in easily? Thanks Same here, driving there on a thursday, visiting Friday. If it's not too hard to get in we might be tempted to go thursdaynight as well. Or let me put it this way, do you want to see this both day and nighttime?
Got there around 19:00 last night and it took 15 mins to get in. Definitely go in the evening, as soon as it got dark was amazing.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Deleted on Aug 24, 2015 8:39:08 GMT 1, The art critics as in the Professional ones like Jones and Januszczak are a real disspointment and show themselves for the shallow media types they really are.
It's good for Banksy if he likes butt buffing and schmoozing with BBC types.
The dissapointment is that not one mention of the Palestinian, Israeli, Iranian, Syrian, artists exhibiting together in this show.
Which for Guardian Jones is surprising and BBC Januszczak is not surprising.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by barryh on Aug 24, 2015 9:33:43 GMT 1, Fair play the Disney thing has been done a lot, but most is jut not very good. Comparing a huge sculpture of a crashed princess.. To a Mickey Mouse stencil of him holding a gun with a Hirst skull is pointless.
Most of it is coat tail hanging on, with very little substance.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by 10th Mountain on Aug 24, 2015 9:35:11 GMT 1, Advice please. I want to go in the evening. Are their tickets available from the portacabin for the evening session? if so, does anyone know at what time these are available. Very keen to go, but to fit around work and try and beat the flippers on the ticket site may not work. Any assistance appreciated. Cheers

Definitely worth seeing it in the day and night - as said, it is two different experiences....you can't take it all in on one visit anyway. You need to go and enjoy it all, come away and chat with others, then find there is loads you missed so return and repeat.
Got in twice, thought I'd seen absolutely everything there was to see and am now sitting in Essex cursing as more and more continues to unfold that I missed.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Rouen Cathedral on Aug 24, 2015 12:09:32 GMT 1, Agree 100% on the overused concept of Disney mockery.
I don't know. To me the scaled of it just seems odd. For a 'street artist' it's just bizarre. He goes from pulling off a stencil in New York City to opening a theme park. Yeah that's pretty crazy but for banksy to be the one doing it seems odd.

Win win for banksy. Create a work of art and when people say it's boring and not good you just say that's the point. Haha pretty funny.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by Agent Provocateur on Aug 24, 2015 12:46:24 GMT 1, I thought it was thought provoking, funny, bemusing, rude, overwhelming and dismalโฆ but that was the 5 hours spent in the beer garden, with a who's who of forum members, before I went to the Tropicana.
And to be honest, when I got in I didn't think the lido was really ready to reopen. They could have done a bit more to make the pool swimmable, there was still loads of graffiti everywhere, scaffolding that looked vaguely dangerous and definitely no life guards.

BANKSY "Dismaland" in Weston-super-Mare, by smishdown on Aug 24, 2015 13:07:45 GMT 1, I'm hoping to travel down next week with the family, if I rock up at around 11 (hopefully with tickets) anyone know how long average waiting time is? Just that a 2 year old really doesn't want to stand still for 3 minutes let alone 3 hours. Or know whether I could wait and my little one join me when I get near front? Cheers
