Such a profound statement.....::rolls eyes::
I see x's with drips. I don't need your pity, thanks.

Martin Creed - Maya Hayuk ??, by natstan on Jun 5, 2015 6:48:50 GMT 1, Xs with drips are Xs with drips, don't make them more high art than they really are. Rothko? Even he has his critics. How about getting MH to explain what messages she is trying to bring across in her works? So just enjoy them for what they are (if u like them) and don't over-analyse.

Unless of course you don't want to remain ignorant and stupid about it. In which case, sit down and look at them very closely, compare them to other works in her field and have a close look at abstraction, graffiti, expressionism and abstract expressionism, go through her bio and her history of painting, study her career, see where she's coming from, read her interviews, find out her inspirations. Analyse everything about it. Then come back to it, have another look. See if it's still "just X's with drips". If it is, move on. I guarantee it isn't, but if it is, you'll have learned a whole lot about this thing called art which you can apply to the next thing that takes your eye. You'll develop a lot of passion and insight and knowledge, you'll still be into art a long time after the "just X's with drips" brigade have moved onto the next thing.
peace

Martin Creed - Maya Hayuk ??, by trapnel1 on Jun 5, 2015 8:45:15 GMT 1, I'm fairly neutral about Maya, but I saw the Martin Creed show at the Southbank last year - thought it was fantastic.
Martin Creed at the Southbank
Huge variety of work extending across different media, with a clear theme. Not an X in sight that I can remember and the comparison has never occurred to me before. Not that I would see a problem if there were some similarities, deliberate or by coincidence. But for anyone who is not familiar with Creed, he's a very interesting character.

You seem much to interested in defending her. Is it because you've spent a lot on her work and intend to try to keep the value up so you can make a profit when you sell them in six months (like you did with Sandra Chevrier)? People don't have to like the same things as every one else so I don't understand the hostility on both sides of the argument

Martin Creed - Maya Hayuk ??, by natstan on Jun 5, 2015 17:33:52 GMT 1, A lot has changed in 6 months. What happened? You ask her out on a date and she said no?
I'm surprised you actually care that much to check on my background. Am I supposed to feel honored?
As I mentioned, I like some of her works, I had an unpleasant experience dealing with her but I also like art. No, I didn't ask her out on a date and I don't think I ever will because we are different kinds of people based on what I found out.
I'm a designer myself and I know what constitutes conceptual development and creative thinking. Maybe design and art are different- fine.I just thought her latest print didn't show any real progress to justify its asking price - and it feels like a money grab. And to be frank, I don't even understand why so many love that multiverses print - I hated it. But the fact is I LOVE Very X, as I have indicated times before on this forum.
I'm also someone who likes to take digs at people for fun as long as I don't harm anyone (call me an armchair critic if you will) but that is just the real me. If something is really good, I compliment. If something is not good, I don't defend them like the way you do. That true flag is really not good imo.
In any case, you seem to be the one dating her, more so than me, judging from the way you are defending her all the time. Grow up - different people love different things and their mind change all the time too. I used to like transformer when I was young, I hated it now after the hollywood treatment.

Martin Creed - Maya Hayuk ??, by natstan on Jun 5, 2015 17:41:00 GMT 1, And just one more point to add, i have serious doubt many of Maya Hayuk fans are really such deep thinkers who study so much on art movements and developments as mr nuart festival indicated in order to buy a MH print or appreciate her works.. Hands up those of you art students who 'studied' her works please - I hope I'm proven wrong.

Martin Creed - Maya Hayuk ??, by amoxicillin on Jun 5, 2015 17:43:58 GMT 1, Are you her husband or something? You seem much to interested in defending her. Is it because you've spent a lot on her work and intend to try to keep the value up so you can make a profit when you sell them in six months (like you did with Sandra Chevrier)? People don't have to like the same things as every one else so I don't understand the hostility on both sides of the argument I own three prints, no originals, and the prints are framed. So no, I've got no vested interest, because they're not going anywhere. In what world does owning work not constitute a vested interest?
Add to that, the fact that you have repeatedly tried to sell the works, and I think you are quite biased on the matter, so much so that it is dripping from your posts. No pun intended.

So who were you before you were "amoxicillin"? Because if you wanna talk about bias, you should be upfront about who you are.
