Eine Canvas 91x91cms (Open to offers), by iamzero on Jun 11, 2015 7:23:37 GMT 1, I am interested on how a commission becomes an edition of 2 and the other ends up in a gallery? I would've guessed if I commissioned something then that would be the only one.

Eine Canvas 91x91cms (Open to offers), by Hubble Bubble on Jun 11, 2015 8:23:29 GMT 1, If that's the case and Morfx wasn't told prior to the commission, it's very shabby IMHO. Piece remains strong but, given Morfx's history in the services it should have been a 'one off, unique to him, commissioned by an artist he admired and respected' piece.

I was genuinely unsure what to ask for, didn't want to be greedy or take a low blow for a flip.. Thanks for clearing this up for me..
If you read the sales thread properly you would of seen Time wasters and Tyre kickers Welcome!!
Stay fresh...

Eine Canvas 91x91cms (Open to offers), by Wearology on Jun 11, 2015 15:40:03 GMT 1, It is my understanding that if you have a commission done by an artist than it should be a one off and the plate or stencil should be destroyed. Unfortunately, that seems to not be the case with my last few commissions. I was asked by one artist if they could do a T-Shirt line from the image another asked if he could do it as a small run and another artist used the image for a large run for a print without even contacting me. I thought if I said no than the artist would perceive me as being difficult and would not agree to do another commission for me in the future. And NO I am not going to name & shame before the Peanut Gallery even starts asking !!!!!!!!

Eine Canvas 91x91cms (Open to offers), by sierrahotel on Jun 11, 2015 16:39:29 GMT 1, i had a commission done by an artist I love, super nice guy and it was really cheap - I came with the idea, which was an adaptation of a street image he had done, he cranked out two versions (hand done, non stencil art, diff colours) and let my pick my fave. So he was open in there being at least one other edition floating around. This is far removed from a stencil artist altering a few colours, but same principle.. I think when you come to an artist with a request/ idea you don't really retain the IP in any sense. With stencils it's more painful.

Normally I hate sellers who don't name a price. But this is different. He was very open, he said he was open to tire kickers. Its not like he's being cheeky or waiting for a fat fish. If he had said 5k form the get go, some might have been scared off.
I think he wanted to leave the conversation open, to trades, negotiations, questions, instead of building a 5K pound wall. Even now he says 5k but it gives me the impression he's open to offers and discussion.

I totally agree that the artist owns all the rights to the image, but there is definitely an unwritten rule that a commission should be a one off and if the artists wants to re-create the image than it should be slightly different than the original one that was commissioned. People pay a premium for a commission for a reason and that is for the exclusivity of the image on that particular medium or in that specific size or in that color palette. The artist and the buyer should always establish some guidelines before the artist proceeds with the commission such as final cost, payment terms, time it will take for completion and if it will be a one off or could be part of a future run.

WTF does tyre kickers welcome even mean? Lowballers? and also apparently time wasters too? why are they welcome? they never buy anything?
Id rather you just put your price out there fella, wether you get it is another matter but at least its a starting point of negotiation, this post and others like it does keep your thread alive tho, maybe its what you hoped for all along.
I do like it after all, not for me @ anywhere near 5K but seriously GLWTS, nice piece.

It's a bit of fun isn't it, an irony, it's telling the reader that here's a guy that's pretty laid back about who posts on his thread and/ or PM's him offers, questions, requests for pics, etc.
Also it may be a reaction to the sort of uptight, bread head, pompous poster who INSISTS on no time wasters for whatever precious little print they're doing us the favour of offering up on here. There was a sales thread on here a while ago where the poster basically lost his sh*t over this and his thread got mercilessly ripped by all and sundry.

Would love to keep them both, but need must with the sprog coming in 6 months.. i would love to keep the set together, but if i cant i will split them..
I would have to be harsh on these and sell them to the highest bidder (sorry but i need the funds)
will give it until the 25th then will split if i still have them...
