On the other hand, seems quite a stretch to bash Laz since the bulk of his B works are from working and representing him, most of which was bought direct. Granted he bought at the all time lows and ended up stockpiling the single artist who has year over year outpaced any other in appreciation. You can call it magical intuition, incredible business acumen or just blind luck but definitely not ripping off artists. One thing is for sure, Laz gets credit for holding on to a bulk of these pieces when most would have cashed out many years ago.
Anyway... Still love Lush and almost always brings a smile when he posts.

I get what you're saying about Laz initially paying for Banksy's work but I think this is referencing the law regarding resale of art where you must again pay the artist a portion of the sale. Is this law only applicable in the US? I thought it was pretty much adopted internationally, although I could be wrong. I guess the elephant in the room is does Banksy really need any more money. I suppose not, but there is the matter of principle regarding the law and the rights of artists. But then again how many of us have re-sold a print, HPM or original and never paid royalties. I'm guilty as charged but it's never been on the same level as Laz. Am I just splitting hairs? Is this law only applicable for auction houses and galleries? Open for discussion. |
