This is the book that pre-dates the hugely influential Subway Art by Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant. The Houston Street Wall was the site of a sidewalk surprise birthday party Saturday for photographer Martha Cooper, who was planning to stop by for what she thought would a new mural shoot. The world famous graffiti photographer had no idea that artists How and Nosm had begun masking the letters of her nickname out of their mural at 7 am to prepare for an all-star cast of some big graffiti and street art names from the last 4 decades to create a larger-than-life birthday card for her.

Great (and mahoosive) Martha Cooper that sold for £700 plus fees at Bonhams last night. It probably cost more than that to frame.

First up, a very special Subway Art 25th Anniversary edition

This was a special edition of 100, and is signed & numbered by Henry Chalfant & Martha Cooper.

However, what makes this edition special in comparison to the regular book is that it also includes a signed & numbered photo by both Henry & Martha - these are proper photos on proper kodak photographic paper, not screenprints. Both photos are signed and numbered to match the book, and come in a black paper sleeve which also has a matching number.


The book measures 40cm x 43cm, and each photo is 9" x 12"

Cheapest option would be subway art 25th anniversary edition (special edition version) which came with a Martha & Henry & possible a Blade print if memory serves. One was offered here not too long

Auction houses you can normally find the more choice prints

To the O.P…It might be worth sending blackratpress/blackdog an email in regards to prints they were selling at the subway art release/show
