Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by hlarmy on Jun 22, 2010 8:37:19 GMT 1, Something what I really would like to address for a longer time: What do you think about Banksys Watchtowers? Im not a too great fan to be honest, but would loved to be convinced that they are great. Thanks for help.
From a purely aesthetic standpoint, very poor in my opinion...

The rawness, plainness and starkness of them is the whole point...they are made from olive wood- the symbol of peace- yet are a carving of something truly awful, oppressive and un-peaceful. The collab ones take it a step further.
Ill be the first to admit that they really dont translate to photos very well though and of course they arent as immediate as some other pieces.... But looking at my two every day, i think they are superb.
Like a lot of great art, they are open to interpretation on many levels however you see fit , but the basic messages are clear.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by BME on Jun 22, 2010 12:35:06 GMT 1, I'm also a watchtower fan. The contrast between the olive wood (peace) and the watch tower (war) function is very powerful- I've always felt that tension is what banksy does best- Love is in the Air (riot versus flowers) Turf War (Churchill versus Punk) and so on.
