Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by jonpud on Feb 25, 2009 10:39:47 GMT 1, Does all this mean we won't see a bun fight for the next Banksy release!? ;D
Can you imagine his next release being available for several months before selling out, like it was back in 2003? ;D

A possibility if they are priced at market value instead of boot sale prices.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by funster on Feb 25, 2009 10:50:39 GMT 1, is it any surprise the kates didnt sell? after all, they are 6 prints of the same image in different colours, think how many originals you could get for ยฃ100k+fee's 20 full size herakut canvases 3 or 4 adam neate gallery originals a big parla original a good few KAWS canvases and even 2 or 3 banksy originals so its no surprise to me that these prints did not sell
I'm very surprised they didn't sell. To be honest if I'd realised you could have picked them up for that price I would have been extremely tempted to put a consortium together to buy them. Bottom line is are they worth morth than ยฃ16,500 each? Yes. Therefore someone could have made a smart profit by buying them all and splitting them into 6 lots.

Thankfully in this case Wiz I think it's more of a relief. Think of the nightmares attached with trying to flog 6 Kate's in this market - she could haunt you forever!!

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by edcase on Feb 25, 2009 15:41:21 GMT 1, D*Face had a really strong auction and all his pieces sold well. I was surprised the Supine didnt sell considering what his recent pieces have sold for.
Does anyone know if they were proper collages, or wheatpastes?
I have to say I'm one of his biggest fans, but neither of these pieces do much for me.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by snausages on Feb 25, 2009 15:50:52 GMT 1, ยฃ241,848 was the total selling price. I believe Bonhams would have made circa ยฃ40k on the night (taking into account VAT), which I doubt leaves them with much, if any, 'real' profit after advertising, staff, wine, etc etc. The total value of unsold Lots based on the High Est is ยฃ426,500. If this figure was achieved a further ยฃ80k would have been added to the coffers. Didn't spend a lot of time on the math but I don't think you figured in the sellers premium which would make it about ยฃ40k + about ยฃ20k - I think it's probably a good deal to them?
And I would not be surprised if a few of those Banksy originals are placed in after auction sales generating further revenue.

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by robo on Feb 25, 2009 15:56:31 GMT 1, Thanks; have had my eye on his bird paintings for a while (since i first saw them fluttering around Bristol and as part of walls made with Eelus and Jago). This one is a huge chunk of aluminium (1.7m high) with so much going on in it - made with spray paint and gold leaf apparently.
By the way the upshot is I will probably now be selling a Xenz Birds and/or Spring - PM me if interested.

I will be shocked if they are not sold post auction by the house. There are plenty of dealers and collectors doing the exact same math you are doing at the moment. Everyone wants a deal and the greed side of the equation comes into play. I'll bet they've got a handful of offers already between 50 and 75k for the set and maybe a few above that as well. If I bought primarily for investment, i would be there in line making a bid. Besides, for dealers they would look nice hung in the gallery tempting tipsy tourists in the right neighborhoods.
