Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by JFCC on Nov 11, 2021 19:53:49 GMT 1, Bonhams is always a buyers auction. Prices are pretty much in line with everything seen in the last few months. Essentially we remain at Sept 2020 pricing which is still a pretty good place to be in my personal opinion!

You have to add 34% to thatโs as thatโs only the hammer price and it was not in the best condition and she so many have appeared of late buyers are rightly choosy!

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by 18921892 on Nov 12, 2021 9:52:11 GMT 1, 95,000 pounds for balloon girl No it was a lot more than that I think ยฃ120k plus other fees added on to the eventual invoice. I would think close to ยฃ130k which is pretty good given the condition. Probably why it was put in to auction. Seller got ยฃ95k another reason not sell at auction unless you are have condition issues,

So when you are talking selling Banksy for the 10's of ยฃ1000s upwards where would you sell?
A well known auction house like Bonhams seems like a good idea surely?

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by JFCC on Nov 14, 2021 16:33:57 GMT 1, No it was a lot more than that I think ยฃ120k plus other fees added on to the eventual invoice. I would think close to ยฃ130k which is pretty good given the condition. Probably why it was put in to auction. Seller got ยฃ95k another reason not sell at auction unless you are have condition issues, Honest Question So when you are talking selling Banksy for the 10's of ยฃ1000s upwards where would you sell? A well known auction house like Bonhams seems like a good idea surely? Bonhams were my favourite auction house for a long period of time, great people to deal with and very straight forward. However in my opinion, I think they have definitely lost their way in terms of catalogues, promotion of sales and condition reports, this is my own personal opinion I must stress. An example is the Pop x Culture sale which had so many lots, many were for a few hundred pounds, then they had a random Supreme LV trunk and then somewhere some excellent Banksy prints mixed in there. They also had some poor ones!!! Who an earth was the audience for that collection? I will add however I do buy from Bonhams as they are always the cheapest auction house but I prefer to try and do a deal with members here or with other parties that I know.
Forum are excellent and very honest brokers but they have just pushed to many Banksy only auctions and are in, in my opinion again, part the reason for the market indigestion we have seen all year. They have been a victim of their own success and as their reach is pretty limited to a relatively compact band of collectors it is hard to break the circle. They need to have less Banksy lots and a much wider number of artists that they assemble alongside.
Sotheby's and Phillips are in my opinion the best at the moment. Their reach is far and away the best and advertising and marketing to their clientele much better than the rest. Christies are close but a little haphazard and are perhaps too honest in their estimates thus not creating an early enough frenzy feel either online or in the room. All three do however bring an excellent international reach to the equation and that is also good.
So if I was selling a Banksy print today, it would not be in a Banksy only sale. It would be in mixed catalogue of other urban and pop artists all with a similar quality and price range. Most likely it would be through Sotheby's or Phillips depending on who gave me the best deal of no sellers fees etc.
Just my view!!!

Bonhams โข Art Auctions โข London ๐ฌ๐ง, by JFCC on Dec 9, 2021 17:20:08 GMT 1, This is record lows, this year which is my measure of the state of the market or in this case the state of the auction house.
For example Love Rat sold yesterday at 20% more at Tate Ward (Hammer ยฃ25k TW v ยฃ20k at Bonhams)
All were unsigned
Happy Choppers, B&W Trollies, IFTL, HMV, Grannies and Love Rat

That said ยฃ174k all in (hammer ยฃ130k) achieved today was actually a good result. Probably the only good result!!
