Bonhams • Art Auctions • London 🇬🇧, by fusion0001 on Feb 25, 2021 15:00:34 GMT 1, Just ran the results and updated on banksy-value.com I think we are finally seeing a correction in the ratio between signed and unsigned:
- Overall index for Feb is down 4.3%, but it is an improvement vs pre-Bonhams, when it was down 5-6%
- Signed are pretty much flat (down 1%)
- Unsigned are down 6.5%

Bonhams • Art Auctions • London 🇬🇧, by LJCal on Feb 25, 2021 15:17:36 GMT 1, I think the issue is that people are looking to cash in on weaker images like your Grannies and Trollies and there simply isn't the demand to support recent prices. Stronger signed images seem to have done fine and are more likely to hold their value in my view.

Bonhams • Art Auctions • London 🇬🇧, by JFCC on Feb 25, 2021 17:16:06 GMT 1, Bonhams has always been a place to buy not to sell IMHO, even though they are very generous in their condition reports. They seem to think that buyers will want to buy a £500 old movie photo and a £200k signed print in the same auction room which just highlights how off the pace they are.
Price wise it this auction followed that trend we have seen. However, the 3 Rats only did well against no history! Forum had signed Gangsta Rat recently and that went for £130k all done. I would be disappointed at the prices achieved today and well done the buyers.
LN was a record but following the trajectory of LIITA should have done better. GWB was average but poor from Pulp Fiction, Trolleys and Grin. Grannies had condition issues, which must be bad for them to be that clearly noted!
Donuts doing well reflected the infrequency and the only surprise was Stop and Search which like Grin should be £100k print all day long.
Gloom and doom? No but certainly a raised eyebrow. Signed v Unsigned may well be resetting a little, especially due to over supply of certain prints, which is no bad thing and it now looks pretty clear that we are going to get at best normal (20%) or sub normal gains going forward as the fall in the overall index demonstrates. No need to panic just sit and watch!

I agree that LIITA and Choppers are great images. I also think that BME and Flags are great. BME is very underrated imo. I have one framed and it is very striking.

BME was how it all started for me, flicking through esquire magazine I saw an article in this unknown graffiti artist with the only image being BME and thought that will look cool in my first home was which cost me 60k. I’ve still got the sales particulars from when we sold it 18 months later for 120k and there in the lounge is BME hanging on the wall. Almost as much as we paid for the house!

That is some jump in the price of your house it's a bit like the recent Banksy price rises Thats cool that you saw BME in a magazine and could go and purchase it. Sorry I misread you first message, I thought you had LIITA and Choppers framed and not the other way around.

Bonhams • Art Auctions • London 🇬🇧, by robo on Feb 26, 2021 1:43:38 GMT 1, I think the issue is that people are looking to cash in on weaker images like your Grannies and Trollies and there simply isn't the demand to support recent prices. I disagree that these are weaker; personally they are two of my favourite Banksys. Apparently the Grannies was damaged; I don't know about the Trollies.

Think the huge quantity of trollies out there dilutes the love for them a bit think they're strong prints, especially the B&W edition. If that had been released as a small edition only it would be a very expensive print by now. Grannies is a bit more difficult. Not everyone wants a giant pink print with grannies knitting on their wall but it's still quintessentially Banksy and instantly recognisable as his work.

Well it’s all subjective but historically in terms of value these have been cheaper prints and back end of last year they started closing the gap on other prints price wise, I think this was speculation as opposed to people genuinely buying these because they like them.

The results Choc Donuts & Bomb middle England surprised me slightly as they were both total payed records. Even before the extra 5% of hammer price for import duty is added .
This extra 5% is not shown on the all in price on Banksy value.

I don’t see this. Flags was THE cheapest print of all and done perfectly well. Grannies and trolleys are two of his best in my humble opinion.

I don't understand why this thread isn't getting much love. It must be the art.

Yeah I was surprised by the Valium price given the condition report said it had several hard creases in it. I like the image but most that have come up at auction recently seem to have had quite prominent creases. Guess they’re not ones people are dusting off from the depths of their plan chests or portfolios...
