Banksy £10 • Di-Faced Tenner

Hi Peeps, a friend of mine is doing a crowdfund for his art space, and is offering 4 Di-Faced Tenners for a donation of £1500 each.

While some of you will question provenance, etc. The friend in question was one of the people who opened Old Vic Tunnels, helped broker Can's Festival, and some of Laz's activities at the venue - so the provenance is solid. I guess they could probably get a COA for these.

There's also a Ben Eine "Soho" available at a pretty good price.

Lights of Soho is a cool space, check them out.

Just seen this thread, I too have bought a Di face tenner on ebay , I have tried to look at my tenner and compare all the tell tale signs but still not sure, before I go back to seller would appreciate the opinions of those with more experience than me! thanks

If you look through a strong magnifier, like one used to look at stamps, you will see clear dots. If they are not clear it has been photocopied. I have real and fake and thats how i compare.

I know that since PC will never authenticate it, Laz will have to be the next best thing.  But that's a lot of cash for something so small and an edition of 100,000.  Better to just save up a bit more and get an unsigned print with COA.  Alternatively for the price of 10 of these Laz tenners, one can get a whole Banksy signed sheet in an edition of 50...oh, and incidentally the signed sheet has 10 notes on it too.

I can also add to Oski's very detailed and helpful post; the £100 Di-Faced Tenner sheets were crossed, on the back of the sheet, from corner to corner in red ink i.e. a red line running diagonally from the top left corner, down to the right bottom corner and the same for the top right to the bottom left. These originally sold for £95. I bought one and one was also bought for my little nephew. I can't give you the exact date of release, but it was certainly the weekend prior to the Anniversary of Diana's death. I believe they lasted a few hours before they sold out on POW. I just happened to check the site at the right time.

Thanks for the help guys. I actually purchased 3 of these from that seller before finding this. I haven't received them yet but I am opening a case with ebay to get their advise before they arrive. It appears the seller is pretty good at gaming the system to get comments removed that pertain to bad feedback. I am going to leave the one in the mail sealed so as to protect myself from being accused of replacing an original with a fake. I guess we'll see how it goes.

So many fake tenners on eBay. It's just not worth the hassle or risk these days. A good lesson for everyone to proceed with caution.

I tried purchasing one last year from the above dodgy Ebay seller. I just added a note along with the paypal payment saying, i had an original to compare it to, if they knowingly knew it was a fake to just refund my money.

They refunded my money the next day.

yeah you are absolutely right, I contacted my seller and he has agreed immediately to refund my money and shipping costs, fake tenner off back home tomorrow I reckon stay away from ebay and di-face tenners, too easy to fake and so hard to see online if its a fake or not. Next question is the Tesco petrol bomb poster I bought on ebay also fake?! that's my next problem, anyone got any tips re. spotting a fake?!

i am sorry, but i am sure that 90% of the ebay tenners are fakes (regardless of your pics).
a good (i guess the only 100%) possibility is to compare the tenner with a banksy coa !

There're plenty of old threads with tons of information. Even high res pictures with side by side comparisons.

If you bought it from littlelegs on ebay 100% fake, if you bought it cheap, 100% fake. If the description said 'these were thrown out at the knotting hill carnival' like many other copied descriptions, likely a fake. Check it against a Banksy COA if you can. You can also look through a strong magnifier, like the ones you use to look at stamps. There will be dots which are clear and even, if it is a fake, it will likely be blurred............

If you paid around £15 then its probably 99.9% fake and you can enjoy it, if you paid into the hundreds of pounds, see this as a valuable lesson learnt, (asking afterwards!!)

There hasn't been a post on this for a while. I may be the biggest dupe when I bought mine a "while" back on ebay. I see all the serial numbers "CA70364470" for the authentic and fakes are blue, mine is grey. Obvious sign right? But with so many good fakes out there why would someone mess up on that part where the rest of the bill looks authentic or a very good fake? It's been too long for me to start a return with ebay I think because there is no icon to return. Does paypal have buyer protection and anyone know how long it lasts? Thanks

A pair of Banksy Tenners, not grabbed from the air/floor of the Notting Hill carnival (as sold by the thousand on flea bay...) but gifted to me by Mr Lazarides in 2006 at POW in Scrutton St.
