Banksy £10 • Di-Faced Tenner, by letiss on Dec 26, 2014 13:22:02 GMT 1, I kindly got given one by Laz a while back, so I know mine's real. But if I had a pile real and fake ones in front of me, I really doubt I'd be able to tell the difference. I'd quite like another one as they do look great framed together.

Nope, these are not for sale.... They use them for authentication (COA's) and probably throw them in deals when people spend gazilions of GBP's on art from the gallery.
The only way of telling if one is 'real' is getting it from source imo.
And define "real" first : Perhaps LAZ and Simon also copy them when they are running low?

Banksy £10 • Di-Faced Tenner, by Deleted on Dec 27, 2014 13:51:05 GMT 1, Well I think they had quite a few boxes full of 'm in ETTGS, don't think they'll bother making more when the supply dries out. I think 100.000 were printed originally (one million quid worth) A lot of them were passed out to the crowd on different occasions, a lot have been lost and a lot (more than 10.000) have been stapled to COA's. If they run out what will the staple to the COA's??

Banksy £10 • Di-Faced Tenner, by Oski on Dec 28, 2014 23:29:49 GMT 1, I've been following the sale of Banksy Di-Tenners for years and had never pulled the trigger. However, with the recent glut available on eBay, and resulting decline in prices, I thought I'd pick one up. I reached out to several sellers who claimed they were selling "authentic" Banksy Di-Tenners, many of them with elaborate stories about having picked them up at Notting Hill Festival in 2004, even photo comparisons to uncut sheets and scales that show the weight, etc. I indicated in my message that before I bid, I wanted them to know that I had a real Di-Tenner on my Pest Control COA to compare against. Not surprisingly they didn't respond, except for one seller who assured me that there was no doubt, since he's had it for 10 years from when he picked up several from the festival. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised that it didn't turn out to be real. At this point it would seem that no one is selling real tenners on eBay.
It may still be awhile before scanning and printing technology make the fakes indistinguishable, and frankly the fake looks pretty good if one didn't have a real reference. So here are comparisons to hopefully help someone out.

I've seen the story about the tenners and Notting Hill Festival in an interview with Banksy I think, but never heard of anyone from this or other forums (old forum members that was around at the time) that actually experienced this. Did it ever happen? Edit: was it in ETTGS?

Banksy £10 • Di-Faced Tenner, by samfrost on Dec 29, 2014 2:08:38 GMT 1, Great post. I think we will see more and more tenners on eBay. Not to mention other Banksy related ephemera. We just saw some Christmas cards (not sure if real or fake) and other assorted lots this year.
The reality is that without new works, you'll see collectors reaching just to get "something" that is Banksy.
Below is a great article somewhat related to this phenomena:
How to Buy Warhol, Degas and Renoir on the Cheap. One sign of the overheated art market is the growing appetite for minor works by major artists—But are all these etchings and doodles authentic?

Banksy £10 • Di-Faced Tenner, by Oski on Dec 29, 2014 16:01:32 GMT 1, the original is on the right side or on the left, in your pics? The real one is the note on the right in all the images. The things to look for:
(1) The fake has a blue color cast vs. the more olive hue of the real Di-tenner.
(2) There is more gradations of the shades of Di's hair.
(3) You'll see much more details/defined texture in the buildup of the images, although this is more obvious in the blown up pictures and less so when you are looking directly at the notes at actual size.
(4) The serial numbers on the right is sharper and more saturated blue in the original.
(5) The strip with the text that runs under the number "10" and floret to the right of the crown and behind the serial numbers "CA7" are more legible in the real Di-tenner.
I actually suspect it's quite possible that the better quality ones from multiple sellers (UK, US, Denmark) come from a single eBay seller in Denmark who is also selling an original uncut sheet, which was probably used to scan on a high quality scanner (possibly a drum scanner) and printed double sided onto a slightly heavier paper using a high quality digital printer and then cut to individual notes. By comparison, I believe POW originally used offset printing for their tenners. The paper of the real and the better fakes are not regular printer paper and are of slightly better quality with the resulting notes weighing about 1.3g individually and having a smoother texture to the touch than plain printer paper.
Incidentally the asking price is not indicative of authenticity. Some of the same sellers letting their notes go to auction for £50 are also selling fixed price at £200+ per note (doubtfully selling 2 different batches of real and fake).
However, it should also be noted that the quality of the print may be different even with the POW originals, as they most likely did not print the 100,000 notes, comprising of the £1M, in one run (may have been printed in multiple batches - each sheet has 10 notes, so 10,000 sheets were printed). Also it's possible that even on the same sheet, the quality may have been slightly different. I suspect this because I have another COA from Pest Control with an attached tenner that has a slightly blurred serial number. I'll have to take some pictures of the two variants and post them later.

Banksy £10 • Di-Faced Tenner, by Oski on Dec 30, 2014 5:21:56 GMT 1, Franz, it's very hard to tell from the resolution of the pictures on the site. The color looks correct. But you should either look at your tenner with a magnifying glass or take a high quality picture using the macro mode of your camera to compare the details to the pictures I posted above. Most important is to look for the detailed lines that comprise the shades of the note.

Banksy £10 • Di-Faced Tenner, by Oski on Dec 30, 2014 5:33:54 GMT 1, I mentioned previously that there are variations of the Di-Tenner, even as issued from Pest Control on their COAs. Here's a comparison of two genuine notes from PC:
Notice for the note on the left compared to the one on the right: (1) Serial number is noticeably blurrier than the one on the right. (2) The strip under the 10 is not as defined, nor the letters within all that legible. (3) The florets to the right of the crown is also not as crisp and defined.
However, a couple of things remain similar: (1) The overall color cast is similar vs. the fake from the previous post. (2) The hair has the same wide range of gradation than the fake in the previous post. (3) The very fine pattern that comprise the images are similarly uniform and you can see the little boxes and dots (this is really hard to see with your eyes, you must either use a magnifying glass or take a high quality photo that can be blown up to a larger size). High quality scanners and printers today just can't pick up this level of detail from the originals.
Hope this is useful for people on the hunt for Di-Tenners. As usual, caveat emptor.

I know that since PC will never authenticate it, Laz will have to be the next best thing. But that's a lot of cash for something so small and an edition of 100,000. Better to just save up a bit more and get an unsigned print with COA. Alternatively for the price of 10 of these Laz tenners, one can get a whole Banksy signed sheet in an edition of 50...oh, and incidentally the signed sheet has 10 notes on it too.

But I still don't know, the man selling it told me that he got it at santa 's ghetto. I was mad of Banksy, it was just after seeing Exit ... I tried to get a paris Hilton too. There is a lot of fakes too, I am sure ; easy, you have just to buy a white cd and to copy it... ( Street ) Art's world is unforgiving...

But I still don't know, the man selling it told me that he got it at santa 's ghetto. I believe the counterfeiters scanned from a full Banksy tenner sheet, so the size and dimensions are going to be 1:1. The correct weight of paper shouldn't be too difficult to find either. I'm just a bit jaded from my recent eBay experience of trying to find a real tenner and this thread should hopefully help others looking for a genuine Di-tenner. I don't believe price is an indicator, as sellers of fakes I contacted had also listed for quite a lot because they understand the psychology of people associating the cost with authenticity. I think the best way at this point to determine authenticity is to look at your tenner through a magnifying glass and see if it's got the same grain as the pictures I posted above and in further detail here:
This cannot yet be reproduced with today's scanning and printing technology.
