Maya hayuk, by meh. on Jan 8, 2015 18:58:30 GMT 1, I agree with what you said cashewman. I was lucky to pick mine up in person and even then I had them sort through a couple to find one that seemed perfect and those had been brought in a giant box with them. It does really look great framed. Here's a few pictures of mine floated in a diamond frame. Apologies for the lighting. Those look so damn good. Well done. I was planning to mount it as a square, but I think you have it right with the diamond. B LOL a diamond is a square!

Maya hayuk, by soupy on Jan 8, 2015 18:59:27 GMT 1, just as an update.... i heard from LSC again. they've been extremely responsive, understanding, and helpful. they've talked w/ maya and are working on getting me a replacement (in better condition)
loki ... is that a custom frame job or a DIY of sorts? it looks great!

Maya hayuk, by Wenters on Jan 8, 2015 18:59:56 GMT 1, Unfortunately you understand it incorrectly - they were selling them as they offered me one. For the record I think they are great - just need a bit of quality control. Not sure I do. LSC was selling MV2 prints. So was Maya's Studio. So was Kayrock directly. All separately. I purchased one from Kayrock, and was billed directly from Kayrock, like a few others on this forum. *Not* through LSC. Just because you were offered one from LSC doesn't mean that they weren't also being sold through other channels. B ok got ya! Thanks

Thank you very much!! I had it laid out square at first but thought that there was a lot of white space around it so went with the diamond. Been wanting to mount something differently than the normal for a while and am glad this one came out like it did.

Thank you! This was a custom job from the framer. I gave her the idea and we went over the layout and she recommended the colored mat and frame and put it together.

I don't wish to put your framing job down, but surely it shouldn't be displayed in that way. Loki's frame in the previous post is surely the way to go. I think all maya's new stuff looks great, but not sure that really works, sorry, each to their own I guess!

Hangs well with my other Mayas and she framed it the same way in promo's, so I disagree on how it's meant to be hung. Also some of my others of hers are already framed in the typical white box frame, can feel a bit suburbian-square if overdone, sooo I won't be doing that.

Maya hayuk, by kbfrombk on Jan 9, 2015 4:11:22 GMT 1, It's on a thicker, almost card stock; screen printed like Multiverses #2, and it has 4 flaps, that get wrapped around the back of the record which is in an inner standard sleeve. The flaps have a raised spine to them which lends itself nicely to a natural pop.
It's a painted record sleeve. Of the Nonsuck varietal.

Maya hayuk, by soupy on Jan 9, 2015 14:34:45 GMT 1, the only reason i would display it with the LP showing is if i was a huge sid vaga fan (which i am not)..... i would still probably want to PLAY the record (and not display it).
i want maya's print to be the focal point. not the LP. def going to open and display as the "X".

Maya hayuk, by Oski on Jan 10, 2015 0:47:46 GMT 1, I had the fortunate opportunity to arrange a visit to Maya's studio today. I ended up spending nearly 2 hours hanging out with her, Sid Vega, and their friend David. They were incredibly gracious and friendly people and were super cool to chill with. As Maya got the music going and pulled out various pieces, David showed me the paint under black light (which is pretty psychedelic), and Sid was helping to pick out the LP/print for me and my friend Floubi here.
To address some of the posts in this thread, each and every one of the prints were personally hand pulled by Maya. As a result, every one will have some light handling marks, streaks, and possibly small dings. They are each unique in that sense and with pigments, the closest to a hand painted piece. What Maya has to say about the paint streaks is that they are a part of the process, it's a sign of her hand pulling the screens, and cannot be forged. However, it should be noted that not all of them have paint streaks, but they are part of the print's unique character and she happens to like them.
Maya will begin working on new pieces this weekend and has a couple of gallery shows already set up (one in Toronto). She will also continue to work on the Pilar project with new items becoming available, so stay tuned. Her work will not only continue with the geometries, but will expand to more organic forms, which she has already done recently. I am very excited about what's to come from her.
Maya and Sid in da house.
Cool wall work and various canvases.
Incidentally, Sid Vega is spinning at The303 in the LES this Sunday afternoon and should be a fun time if you can stop by.
