SANDRA CHEVRIER PRINT RELEASE C.O.A GALLERY, by Happy Shopper on Nov 19, 2014 20:45:27 GMT 1, The first one looks like she's got some IBS troubles. The quality of the painting looks a bit amateur... and the overall "comics pasted on pretty girls" just doesn't work as well as on just faces... not that I thought it was amazing in the first place. Well thats why you think it looks dodgy. just say you dont like it. i dont like snickers but i dont say i hate the colour of the chocolate and the bumpy peanuts. just say you dont like snickers.
Well, you did ask!
Should we not discuss what we like or don't like now? Just thumbs up or down? Let's scrap comments completely!
Haha

SANDRA CHEVRIER PRINT RELEASE C.O.A GALLERY, by FЯ on Nov 19, 2014 21:03:15 GMT 1, You on commission or something DER@ANGED? What's with the constant hype? I don't think Sandra Chevrier needs any hyping on the Banksy forum at the time hip hop superstars with more than 50,000,000 followers on FB or IG have liked posts of her work....Moreover with upcoming shows in Japan or at Jonathan Levine Gallery ! Missed this as i now block irrelevent posts.
totally agree with the above comment about IG etc. Infact the use of the word HYPE is only used on here to quantify peoples feelings towards something they do not agree with. After 3 posts, people call things hype these days.. Mainly by those who are not eloquent enough to push anything else out of their dribbling mouths for a narky comment.
looking forward to the shows next year and will be going for the prints tomorrow. a few people on this website will make no difference to anything. Its probably 1% of her reach

SANDRA CHEVRIER PRINT RELEASE C.O.A GALLERY, by monkeyface on Nov 19, 2014 21:09:30 GMT 1, I was looking forward to the next Sandra Chevrier print release but these are a easy pass for me. Although as a set they are really nice and the price on smaller set seams pretty cheap I'm just not feeling it with these. I think as nice as they are they are weak compared to her other recent work.
Still a big fan of her work though.

Was thinking about this and yes even if he has 50m followers and some may love her work, same as banksy has so many followers.. How many of these people are interested in art? Can afford it? into limited things? I mean think of all the houses you have been into whether mates or with work or even offices the majority have cheap ikea canvases and the like or cheap art from their travels. There arent that many collectors (addicts like us lot!) out there. This forum and EB are the only forums in the world, so not many people into this game really in the grand scheme of things?

SANDRA CHEVRIER PRINT RELEASE C.O.A GALLERY, by eschiff on Nov 19, 2014 21:34:20 GMT 1, holy shit?!?! Hip Hop superstars have liked her work? Good lord I better get on it. Which superstars by the way? Lauryn Hill? Nas? Mos Def? Common? Or am i still living in 1998 back when hip hop wasn't pop. It's an awesome way to determine what's good art though, who cares about artistic ability, innovativeness and (for some) monetary value when you can rate art based on instagram likes.
The triptych idea is an aggressive approach to releasing a print, i guess they're small so you don't need too much wall space but it would definitely dominate any room if framed up together. I don't find anything particularly interesting about her art, and can't imagine hanging all three, but am sure these will sell quickly as some have already been pre-sold by the gallery and am equally sure some have prepared the ebay listing as well.
From what I've read about Sanra the reason she makes these pieces is a commentary on the objectification of women, my question is where does she go from here? I saw the hands piece, and the faces pieces, and now the whole body pieces with all varying bits covered in collage. Certainly an interesting idea when she started a few years back, but it hasn't seem to have evolved.
These don't do anything for me, but am sure that if a hip hop superstar and Freerange have combined to throw their collective weight behind it then it must be good art

SANDRA CHEVRIER PRINT RELEASE C.O.A GALLERY, by sake on Nov 19, 2014 22:01:00 GMT 1, For those who dont know, the above picture is the one Chris Brown liked.
It actually made me like it less..
I'd like the triptych(?) and the huge hf standing one and sitting one. Getting them? Prob. not a chance

I love that one also. I actually asked JP at the time if that was for sale but sadly it was not. I have got a thing about smiley faces.

SANDRA CHEVRIER PRINT RELEASE C.O.A GALLERY, by Poster Bob on Nov 19, 2014 22:08:14 GMT 1, Holy fuck did I LOL when she posted that. The question is does she or does she not know that Chris Brown is a woman beating piece of shit. I have to think she was laughing at the irony of it all.

SANDRA CHEVRIER PRINT RELEASE C.O.A GALLERY, by microfluo on Nov 19, 2014 22:10:12 GMT 1, I'm not gonna try to get one of the print because some stars have liked her work...I'm gonna try to get one because i LOVE it! I've bought other chevrier in the past and don't give a fuck about hype because I don't think to sale my piece some day because it's quite my favorite work. It give a new atmosphere into the place it hangs. I own quite some different artists framed in my home and I've noticed that when friends are visiting me the Sandra Chevrier is loved by most of them...and they don't even know the word hype!

not that will make much difference as no matter who i say liked something people will knock it. so for the sale of this post... Noddy holder bought a piece and chaz and dave liked it.

SANDRA CHEVRIER PRINT RELEASE C.O.A GALLERY, by Deleted on Nov 19, 2014 22:56:06 GMT 1, Justify the non-purchase however you like, but these originals and therefore prints are absolutely beautiful. Theyre super sexy, theyre typical Sandra Chevrier and theres 3 of them. Cant ask for much more than that. I want a hand finished, time to convince the wife that we need three more Chevriers to add to our existing 2.

SANDRA CHEVRIER PRINT RELEASE C.O.A GALLERY, by Matt-lock on Nov 19, 2014 23:21:14 GMT 1, Have to say (not to rub peoples nose in it) but quite happy at the moment for getting that original drawing last week for not much more than these hand finished editions!
Might still have to go for a triptych at that price though.

SANDRA CHEVRIER PRINT RELEASE C.O.A GALLERY, by Deleted on Nov 20, 2014 1:20:22 GMT 1, This thread is a microcosm of what the board has become lately.
1. Someone posts about a new print release 2. Someone calls it hyping 3.People who like it get upset with people who don't like it 4. People who don't like it get upset with people who do like it 5 . People discuss if the price is too low or to high
Then in the near future...
6. Some people will purchase and be happy 7. Some people will miss out and not be happy (and some will complain about the gallery and their website) 8. Someone will try to flip it 9. People will be mad at the flipper, and people will be mad about the people who are mad at the flipper
(10. and some people will probably get annoyed with me for this post)
Very little discussion on the work itself, or people respecting opinions different from their own. I really wish this wasn't the case, but I don't know if it will ever get better. It's hard to turn around a boat this big
Good luck to everyone going for the prints. I hope you're able to get one

I hope you're able to get one Dammit Fed, if you don't have anything nice to say!!! Just kidding... you are right, and it is a shame. This is community and a forum. Treat it as such.
1. Someone posts about a new print release - UMMM THIS IS WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN ON A FORUM 2. Someone calls it hyping - WHY DOES ONE CARE... INSTEAD OF CALLING HYPE WHY NOT CONSTRUCTIVELY CRITIQUE THE WORK 3.People who like it get upset with people who don't like it - C'MON FOOLS, THAT ONLY INCREASES YOUR CHANCE OF GETTING IT AT THE DROP 4. People who don't like it get upset with people who do like it - MORONS PRINT COMES TO MIND... STOP COPYING BANKSY 5 . People discuss if the price is too low or to high - OY VEY... HERE WE GO AGAIN DIDN'T WE FIGHT AGAINST COMMUNISM SO WE COULD PAY TOO MUCH FOR PAPER FROM TOILET TO WALLS???
Then in the near future...
6. Some people will purchase and be happy - HOW DARE THEY??? DON'T THEY KNOW HAPPINESS IS NOW THE 8TH DEADLY SIN!!! 7. Some people will miss out and not be happy (and some will complain about the gallery and their website) - BECAUSE IT IS ALWAYS THE INTERNET'S FAULT I MEAN IN TODAY'S WORLD NOTHING IS EVER ANYONE'S OWN FAULT 8. Someone will try to flip it - AND GOD BLESS THEM BECAUSE IT IS THE HUMAN THING TO PRAY ON THE WEAK AND IGNORANT 9. People will be mad at the flipper, and people will be mad about the people who are mad at the flipper - NOW I AM JUST EFFING MAD THANKS FED!!!
(10. and some people will probably get annoyed with me for this post) - HOW DARE YOU CALL PEOPLE OUT ON THEIR INABILITY TO SEE BEYOND THEIR SELFISH TRIBAL POINTS OF VIEW... THIS IS THE INTERNET AFTER ALL.... IT WAS BUILT SO THAT WE COULD CHOOSE TO ONLY EXPOSE OURSELVES TO s**t WE AGREE WITH... DIDN'T YOU KNOW THAT FED!!!
- This thread is a microcosm of what the board has become lately. 1. Someone posts about a new print release 2. Someone calls it hyping 3.People who like it get upset with people who don't like it 4. People who don't like it get upset with people who do like it 5 . People discuss if the price is too low or to high Then in the near future... 6. Some people will purchase and be happy 7. People will be mad at the flipper, and people will be mad about the people who are mad at the flipper (10. and some people will probably get annoyed with me for this post) Very little discussion on the work itself, or people respecting opinions different from their own. I really wish this wasn't the case, but I don't know if it will ever get better. It's hard to turn around a boat this big Good luck to everyone going for the prints. 7. SANDRA CHEVRIER PRINT RELEASE C.O.A GALLERY, by Deleted on Nov 20, 2014 2:23:14 GMT 1, I was actually coming back to the thread to delete my post, but since you quoted me, I guess it's pointless now
I'll add:
11. People who interrupt the "natural" evolution of the release thread to post from their glass house and point their finger at everyone else
(what I'm saying is I should just shut my mouth and let it be. I'm not going to change anything and by posting what I just wrote, I've hypocritically steered the conversation away from the artwork myself, which was not my intention, but is the case anyway).
time to go crawl back into my hole

As for the art. I have looked at these images about 40 times today. I am just not into them.
For me, there has always been something unbalanced and unappealing about her artwork. On the one hand the painting, and her use of watercolors I find quite beautiful. However I always seem to find the juxtaposition with the comic book imagery to be too harsh, gimmicky almost.
With this set, neither the watercolor, nor the comic elements work for me. Together, they give me a somewhat schizofrenic sensation that is off putting. Neither my eye, nor my mind are able to focus on the artwork as a whole because every element feels like a distraction to the other. The faces, at first striking, lose their appeal because they do not reflect either the pose or content of the body. They just feel unrefined in both form and substance.
Sorry, I do not mean to come off harsh. However if you must know why it is not for me, there it is.

SANDRA CHEVRIER PRINT RELEASE C.O.A GALLERY, by cmodart on Nov 20, 2014 3:31:21 GMT 1, I'm buying the 3 mini prints for the love of comic art and Chevrier! If I were investing I would go for hand-finished.
Holy hammered wallet, Batman, it's raining new releases and the bat-well runneth dry!

SANDRA CHEVRIER PRINT RELEASE C.O.A GALLERY, by eschiff on Nov 20, 2014 10:20:01 GMT 1, This thread is a microcosm of what the board has become lately. 1. Someone posts about a new print release 2. Someone calls it hyping 3.People who like it get upset with people who don't like it 4. People who don't like it get upset with people who do like it 5 . People discuss if the price is too low or to high Then in the near future... 6. Some people will purchase and be happy 7. I really wish this wasn't the case, but I don't know if it will ever get better. It's hard to turn around a boat this big Good luck to everyone going for the prints. I hope you're able to get one i'm not sure what your point is. This is an art forum where people tend to talk about all aspects of art. Sometimes it leans more towards monetary value and sometimes not. Maybe you could add something about the art to the thread (which, in fairness, this thread has more of than most, i think i addressed the art in my previous post as well as many others).
But now, with your meandering post, you're almost inviting people to talk about you rather than the art which seems to defeat the whole purpose of your post (which is probably why you tried to delete it but still doesn't explain why you wrote it in the first place). It's another 'look at me' post in a forum saturated with them.
It seems you want people to just say how much they love every release that comes up, in fact, it appears you wish the whole forum was a bunch of sycophants that just say 'wow, i'm in' at every release. It's a shame when people throw the word hype around, and just as big a shame when people throw the word hater around. Just because i, and others, think something is rubbish, or a money grab, or an insult to people who enjoy art does not mean we're 'haters', it means we're expressing an opinion.
People who don't like Sandra, or don't like Whatson or don't like Banksy SHOULD comment on those thread, they should not avoid them. That's how critique works. And some phrase it more eloquently than others sure, but jesus i'd rather read a poorly written critque that makes me think about the art than some f**king'i'm in' over and over again.
