Martin Whatson En Pointe Print Release, by JAlternatiΓ³n on Jul 31, 2014 18:43:45 GMT 1, Of course it sold out instantly... 20 odd people who have posted on here said they missed out on it, plus however many lurkers there are, plus people who aren't on this board... everyone hitting F5 at the same time will mean it sells out instantly.
Personally I can't get over the face and am bored of the tagging thing so didn't even try, but it's interesting to hear that the main edition didn't sell out very quickly.... I guess that those who loved the image so much, weren't so bothered if it wasn't hand-finished?

I guess that those who loved the image so much, weren't so bothered if it wasn't hand-finished? i mean, 155 less edition size + hand-finishing for an extra 100 pounds seems like a no brainer if you were actually interested in the main edition.
also think the background of the hand-finished adds a certain something.

Martin Whatson En Pointe Print Release, by JAlternatiΓ³n on Jul 31, 2014 18:48:07 GMT 1, Completely, if I liked the image i'd have gone for the hand finished definitely, but am surprised the main edition didn't sell out quicker once the hand finished had gone

Martin Whatson En Pointe Print Release, by sgolby on Jul 31, 2014 18:51:15 GMT 1, Blimey o reilly they sold out quick. Did people buy them just to flip in which case a lot of buyers aren't interested in actual art just re sale value? Quick profits. I for one bought it for the art. I like MW in general but I think his tagging style works better on some images than others, this one I think it looks really good. S

if it would have been fastest to checkout they would have gone in a minute.

Martin Whatson En Pointe Print Release, by mrmao on Jul 31, 2014 18:59:46 GMT 1, I can`t agree with MW ordinary didn`t sell quick, after 45 sec all wore gone. It did not say sold out at once, but couldn`t add to cart either.
Maybe many sat on it for a long time "in cart" or system failed. This release was just all the others "chaos", with malfunction and a "little" twist from GP - apparently.
Really like this print, wanted HF, but still happy with the ordinary one.

Martin Whatson En Pointe Print Release, by FΠ― on Jul 31, 2014 19:07:15 GMT 1, Bit bored of tags now, but also within Martins work there is this constant adobe vector live trace feel to everything which always stands out like a sore thumb. His stencil work is better like on chinooks.
The live trace thing just look a little bit lazy

Fair play, as I said I didn't get involved with the drop, but thought I'd seen in here that it had taken 40 minutes. That to me usually says flippers looking to see if there is any instant sales on ebay, hoping that it makes it worth their while, though that's probably just cynicism. Not sure what other reasons people who don't want an image cart it repeatedly for...

Martin Whatson En Pointe Print Release, by sgolby on Jul 31, 2014 19:25:05 GMT 1, I often ask myself the same question, but think it has to do with the fact that classic "Bubble Graffiti" to many people is too literal, they like it in coffee table books, and 80 pictures of walls and trains, but when it comes to prints it scares them. The other side is the fact that most of those cats never went commercial, except for Cope 2. Commercial, meaning marketing limited edition prints of their art... just my thoughts.

Sorry I'm a little never to this.

Apart from "less is more" you cant get a Whatson print for under Β£250, most sit between Β£300-Β£400 so I think this will sit in that range once its all settled down.

Martin Whatson En Pointe Print Release, by nacional on Jul 31, 2014 21:08:49 GMT 1, If you take away the ghastly tagging then his images are actually quite soft and gentle, a la Blek, which aint too bad a thang...I hope Martin can just let go of the tags and stay true with the images that lie beneath....they won't sell as well, but in terms of longevity, it is the way for him to fly...IMHO...

Here is how we view NYC Old Skool Graffiti. Short and simple. If it was not for these guys painting the trains in the 70's and 80's, the "Street art " Scene as we know and and so called "Urban Art" may look a whole lot different, these guys are the grandfathers of the movement and deserve their acclaim. Peace
