Martin Whatson En Pointe Print Release, by Hairbland on Jul 31, 2014 1:31:12 GMT 1, I have a few of Martin's pieces in my collection and En Pointe is one of my favourites (despite it's lack of any deep meaning!). And that's perfectly fine.
As are the legitimate art questions as to what drives Martin, does he have an artist statement.
Or for that matter any artist, particularly those that seem to be building a name, having gallery shows and seeing a rise in their prices.
Again this is an art forum, not a fanboy forum to my knowledge. I knew quite a bit before coming here and have learned quite a bit more by being here.
With the ballerina print it just seems to be a random image Martin-ized (which in the 50's I hear was the hot new dry cleaning craze).
Some considered Choose Your Weapon great, I didn't...it's certainly gone up amazingly as an investment - but there's a number of DormRoomPoster sites selling it as this: Banksy Art: “Keith Haring Dog” Canvas Print #2024
So who's right? Everyone and no one.

Martin Whatson En Pointe Print Release, by Deleted on Jul 31, 2014 1:41:48 GMT 1, I have a few of Martin's pieces in my collection and En Pointe is one of my favourites (despite it's lack of any deep meaning!). this picture is confusing me.. is this a canvas? or a print? if it's a print how is it framed? almost looks like curtains covering a window (and yes, I would buy a MW curtain )
thought it was a canvas but the edges don't look deep enough to me. maybe it's just the angle of the photo?

and yes, I know it's not a curtain but the background of the image is meant to look like a stage curtain, I believe and IMO, MW did a very fine job painting it and it looks pretty realistic.

Martin Whatson En Pointe Print Release, by curiousgeorge on Jul 31, 2014 3:02:49 GMT 1, Do any of the ltd edition producing artists that sell thru galleries paint illegally?
In some countries it's easy to paint on the streets and other countries a lot more expensive if caught.
The artists that use the big hi lifts and scaffold etc etc and make very big art on walls taking days do it all with permission these days.
Illegal art dépends on where it's painted and what whether the owner of the wall etc decides they want the artist prosecuted for criminal damage or decide not to prosecute.
I agree. I don't remember reading the street art rule book that said that someone has to paint illegally if they want to become a 'proper' artist. Some of the amazing detail and sheer scale of a lot of street art today would make it impossible to paint illegally for many artists and usually someone using a High Loader gives the game away a bit! Things have moved on since the basic stencils used by Banksy years ago.
It's pretty much set in stone 'gettin up' illegally is the bedrock of this very scene. Back when people 'got up' for the sheer buzz and 'fcuk off-ness' of it all.I could of course be totally wrong but that's how I remember the scene as a young teenager. If I wanted wall-space with the big boys I would have to prove myself first(and I don't mean banging out an edition with faux tags on every what, 2/3 months)

Yes, FOI. It's a canvas from an edition of 10. I think it's the angle that I've taken the photograph at that's making it look like it's not deep enough.

Some considered Choose Your Weapon great, I didn't...it's certainly gone up amazingly as an investment - but there's a number of DormRoomPoster sites selling it as this: Banksy Art: “Keith Haring Dog” Canvas Print #2024 So who's right? Everyone and no one. I get what you're saying and also agree with it. I'm fairly new to the forum and knew very little before I became a member.
Martin's canvas was one of the first I bought a couple of years back and at that time it was the image that I loved and to be honest I never thought about whether or not there was any deeper meaning to the piece.
I've bought a few of his pieces since then again purely based on the image. I don't see Martin's work as having any hidden or deep meaning whereas some of the work I have on my walls by other artists is there because of what the piece means to me as well as the image.
I am still learning and my tastes are evolving all the time.
I love this forum and would not come back on it constantly if it was just a 'fanboy forum.'
We are all different and have different tastes and opinions and that's a good thing!
