Jeremy Geddes π³πΏ Cosmonaut Paintings β’ Print Release News, by Existencil on May 31, 2011 15:05:04 GMT 1, Exactly, you can tell half of what is being released in this scene even before you have had a chance to read the PDF.... 5 years of generic artwork. In a time of artists 'banging out' 500 stencils to sell, I think its refreshing that an artist decides to actually put some graft into his work. Everything in the world in terms of fashion goes full circle, so as tongue in cheek the above comment may be... ive pretty much had my fill of witty mono colored one liners and am ready to appreciate real skill and thought process. Spot on ! the great thing is how this develops, how people's taste develops and grows and how open this scene really is when it comes to embracing newcomers with real skill and insight into 21st Century living. Liking stencil art, street art, whatever.. it's a great first step..a door opener rather than a scene stealer. People eventually moved on from Eelus's "Chewbarber" and discovered Os Gemeos, moved on from D's Pop references and found Barry McGee and Beautiful Losers..on from dated 80's graff to Jose Parla and the like. Geddes is just the latest and for me, the best of an interesting bunch tackling urban issues.. these guys are really creating and reflecting on contemporary urban culture rather than just simply recycling 60's Pop and some early 2000's idea of what street art should be.. Karaoke culture. Give me Geddes anyday. IMHO of course.
Totally agree. Well said!

Jeremy Geddes π³πΏ Cosmonaut Paintings β’ Print Release News, by ksedge on May 31, 2011 15:28:45 GMT 1, i find it interesting that geddes is being discussed on here anyway. don't get me wrong, i'm glad he is or else i might not have learned more about him and his work - which i have really come to enjoy. but to me it doesn't seem like he fits into the "urban art" category in any way.
martedanielsen - i agree with your comment above. it's a beautiful process of constantly discovering new talent and ideas and expanding the collection beyond that same old thing. for me, i gotta stop buying work focusing on faces. my walls are starting to creep me out!

Yes but its just good to hear actual opinions, rather than people simply saying something is shit or 'amazing'

Now I see the problem, my taste has not grown or developed. I D*Face more than McGee. I like 80's graff way more than Parla. Hell I even like Kaws and Banksy. I love clean and simple, well executed art.

Jeremy Geddes π³πΏ Cosmonaut Paintings β’ Print Release News, by Deleted on Jun 1, 2011 1:37:48 GMT 1, very interesting thread, it's always nice to read an explanation for the 'love' for once. I am slightly mystified that this work is viewed as progression from street art, I find it even harder to work out how it's the logical progression in taste from street art. As if this is some how more intellectual whilst street art serves the needs of the slower, more easily satisfied, all seems rather condescending to me with little to no 'fact' just incredibly subjective view to back up the latest fad of the collector - having said all of that I do like Geddes work.
If sci fi photorealistic pictures are a progression from work which was the call of the common man, i think it says more about those following than the actual art being viewed.

Jeremy Geddes π³πΏ Cosmonaut Paintings β’ Print Release News, by tpeazy on Jun 16, 2011 0:59:35 GMT 1, I recently purchased my first Keyes OG and I have alot of Josh's prints and not all will make it to the framers.
I am only looking to trade for Geddes "Heat Death". Please, no PM's asking about selling, it's not going to happen and I will ignore them.
If Lifted isn't your thing, I have Cerebus, Shedding and Scorch II also.
I'm based in New York and I have stellar feedback on EBeans and giant.org
Thanks

Good luck in your search, Heat Death was the first one I wanted and the only one that had sold out at the time. Looks like it's getting further and further out of my reach!
