Banksy - Untitled (F*ck The Police) - Christies NYC 14th May, by Unica on Apr 23, 2014 14:30:32 GMT 1, I think this is the Christies page for the last sale in 2008, its a pretty large piece at 48x48in. It made $229k back then, not sure if that included BP. Its a pretty early piece as well. I would love to see the photos of it in someones living room. Anyone have a link to those images?
Anyone hazard to guess the final price on this?

Banksy - Untitled (F*ck The Police) - Christies NYC 14th May, by lee3 on Apr 23, 2014 16:26:04 GMT 1, >>>Anyone hazard to guess the final price on this?<<<
Finger to the wind is at least $500k and perhaps as much as 50% more. It's got the edge and angst of a young nobody at the time who would change the way many of us look at the world. If that recent silly Rembrandt which was just the addition of $2 googly eyes on another artist's portrait can achieve $600k+, to my eyes this one is far more important and powerful. I doubt that I'm alone in that opinion and that is the lone Banksy at Christie's for one of their two largest auctions of the year.
That evening sale the night before is simply incredible with the Cornell boxes, Birmingham race riot and Bacon triptych (you know it's a ridiculous collection of work when the white Marilyn at 20 million hardly stands out). It boggles the mind to consider the tally at Christie's alone as it used to be 1 or two 20 million works just 5 or 6 years ago and I must have counted 15 or 20 of them when they released their catalogs last week. The excitement from the evening sale the night before this auction should carry over and this painting will benefit from it. And if two really wealthy people get carried away riding the wave from the night before, my 50% more comment above could even be low and that thought makes me shake my head.

Lee3, I like your bullishness and have no reason to think it won't do well. Would this piece be considered and edition variant? As i've seen the stencil before on this piece. Another great piece that sold for £174K in 2008, same size etc.
www.artvalue.com/auctionresult--banksy-1975-united-kingdom-police-1752854.htm
I was pretty surprised with the number the googly eyes Rembrandt made recently at auction, especially if all Banksy did was put those eyes on. Its hard for me to tell but are those eyes painted on or are they plastic stick on eyes? Did Banksy do any additional painting to the Rembrandt or is it just the application of the eyes? If its just the eyes thats just an incredible number. Especially since one can get an edition canvas for around £50k, i'm sure he spent more time on those in 2000 than he did on the googly eyes piece, especially as I think he also constructed some of the edition canvases frames and added acrylic and cut the stencil and sprayed them.
That being said the F**k the Police piece is an excellent early large classic subversive piece and I'd love to have it. Anyone know where it was originally sold?

It's just auction house upper class nobbish BS.

Jingle, he has used the stencil in other works like your anarchy piece above and also in "Stop me before I paint again" with some legs on the copper. Even though he has used the stencil in other paintings, I'm *guessing* it's considered unique. To determine that for certain, one needs to see the COA (just ask Christie's) which will either say unique, from a series, or #X of X. This particular painting was on the secondary market last year and I seem to recall it being unique but that's faded memory at this point. To your question on Rembrandt, I know from people much wiser than I that it is indeed simply plastic eyes placed upon another artist's copy of a famous Rembrandt self portrait.
