Paul Insect • Who to Believe Print, by Heavyconsumer on May 14, 2008 21:58:44 GMT 1, That red nose version is a hell of a better than the one with tyre marks on it!
I still think they're taking the mickey out of all who buy their prints everytime they later decide to rerelease an edition after selling out. It's just a nonsense! Either print runs are limited or their not. This is exactly the same print as they sold at the 07 Ghetto, OK it's got some extra paint on it, but it's the same print, rereleased. Why couldn't they get the artist to give them a different image to print? Isn't that what artists do? Create images? Oh sorry, silly me, then they'd have all the hard work of actually producing something!
EDIT: After-thought, is it a coincidence that these hand finished editions have all popped up since Eine left them to it? Maybe it is, but maybe they're not so confident in their new printer/s.

Can you imagine how long it must of taken to do 50 prints like this? They can't all be original masterpieces, otherwise they would be originals, if you know what I mean.

but these prints are very different, unlike the 3d blue versions which were quite dissapointing. the edition is low-only 50, and each one is handfinished differently i think its perfect for the collectors who cant quite stretch themselves for an original but want something that is still unique.

Paul Insect • Who to Believe Print, by savilerogue on May 14, 2008 22:10:07 GMT 1, This recent trend of 'hand finishing' from Laz and POW is a load of arse, to put it mildly.
Now if the 'hand finishing' was part of a coherent plan for a print from the beginning it would probably be executed in a way that had some artistic merit and wouldn't look so incongruous and clumsy (compare the woeful Insect and 3d works with the excellent Bast work where the finishing was clearly conceived at the genesis of the print). Releasing the 'hand finished' ones as an addition to the initial run is also a slap in the face to those who purchased the original editions in good faith.
This s**t has nothing to do with art and everything to do with $$$.
Q. How can you make use of spare prints left over from the overrun?
A. Get a toddler to draw on them, call it 'hand-finished' and flog at a premium to gullible people with a lot of disposable income. Trebles all round at Laz and POW!

Paul Insect • Who to Believe Print, by jusdeep on May 14, 2008 22:11:41 GMT 1, Am I missing something here? I have the original 'Who to believe' which after seeing the hand finished versions I am even more happier with my purchase. POW doing a sneaky tactic here by releasing another 50 prints as limited hand finished has really got my goat. If they had been released at the same time as the original it'd be fine, but this is downright underhand. In my opinion the hand finished versions are not that great and I prefer the original. IMO the original 'WTB' was one of the best releases at last years Ghetto. Puppyjuppy's print is nice but is it really worth double the money? Is this whole business so obsessed with money that they have started to neglect their true customers? If I buy a print limited to a certain number I don't expect a few months later to find out they have released different versions of the print with a few alterations. Who's idea was this? I just don't get it.

the're not exactly unique, there's another 150 of them out there without the skids
i'd understand if it was a new image or hand finished to the standard of miss bugs

I like your piece, but that's not the point I'm making (or wasn't in my last post anyway). The fact is there was nothing stopping them from either releasing a different hand-finished image OR releasing 50 of the original edition as hand finished or holding them back for that purpose. The fact is that this image has gone from an edition of X to an edition of X + 50!

Paul Insect • Who to Believe Print, by savilerogue on May 14, 2008 22:24:10 GMT 1, And another thing - are POW and Laz simply getting out of touch? I'm certain that when almost any old s**te that they release promptly sells out its hardly conducive to keeping them on their toes.
Surely they realised what a bad idea this 'hand finishing' already released prints rubbish was when a substantial number of the £D prints were returned?
Is inspiration so thin on the ground that their roster of artists are reduced to this!?
And to anyone who has bought one and is accusing the critics of the piece of being jealous - if you like it, then I'm happy for you. However, I think the concept and the execution is a load of f**king s**te, and I'm staying well out of it. Jealously it most certainly is not. I can think of a million better ways to part with £600 of my hard-earned.
Edited to add - how apt that '3D' came out as '£D' with the typo!

Come off it. Of course he isn't a toddler - that's partly the point. I own 9 of his works FWIW and can say that he is capable of much, MUCH more than this rubbish.
When you are charging £600 for a load of re-hashed old s**te (and doing over those who bought the original print in the process) you are putting your head in the stocks begging to be hit with a rotten tomato. In fact, perhaps that's probably given POW an idea for the next set of 'hand finished' twaddle. Customised with mouldy fruit.
You're right - POW can 'do what they want'. Likewise I can do what I want and criticise this latest desperate fad.

Paul Insect • Who to Believe Print, by seidbereit on May 14, 2008 22:47:05 GMT 1, Does anyone know the reasoning behind these being sold so secretively?
I use the word "secretively" only because there was (as far as I know at any rate) absolutely no announcement that these were available, irrespective of whether I or anyone else considers them worth having or not.
It's the fact that these have been put into circulation without being advertised that bothers me most.

Don't apologise to me boss. Welcome to the forum by the way (sorry for rudely forgeting that before). I welcome your opposing opinions and look forward to future debate.
These prints should not exist, regardless of their artistic content. That's my main issue. And by the way there was a much earlier post on this thread that said they ere sold out. But don't worry I'm sure they'll be on ebay soon!
Silver lining - I may be able to get one of the original ones a lot closer to cost soon. One of the prints I regreted missing at the Ghetto.
Out of curiosity, were buyers allowed to view in advance and choose he print they wanted?

Can you imagine how long it must of taken to do 50 prints like this? They can't all be original masterpieces, otherwise they would be originals, if you know what I mean.
''Can't you imagine how long it must of taken to do 50 prints like this?''
Are you for real.
11am - wake up 12noon - lunch & lager in Shorditch 2pm - pop into pow &pick up 50 excess prints from xmas release 3pm - arrive at studio with said excesss & go to work with crayola, belton, metal leaf & other stuff good for embellishment, Pushbike, chocolate, lighter. 6pm - Back to pow, drop off the now 50 'SPECIAL' prints. That will be sold to those in the know or pow personal callers 7pm - Pub o'clock
Far be it for me alledge this is the lifestyle or MO of Mr Insect or that this was his idea or wish.
Selling prints that should of been shreaded 'Diabolical' imo
For the record I think Paul Insect is a half decent artist

Paul Insect • Who to Believe Print, by loucastel on May 25, 2008 11:51:46 GMT 1, This hand finishing malarky seems the way to go these days as the artists seem to have run out of ideas, there will always be some one out there willing to shell out the money for something they think is unique, albeit the original print with some bits of extra paint/coffee/glitter or whatever thrown over it, trouble is a lot of people cant see further than the end of their nose and dont realise it is yet just another marketing tactic for the gullible. I'm sure in years to come these will go down in art history as uninspired, poorly executed, trash. It is just a shame that so many artists these days are driven by the marketing media and let their work be abused in this way. Obviously lack of originality and ideas is the main problem, and the naive who buy into it.

I use the word "secretively" only because there was (as far as I know at any rate) absolutely no announcement that these were available, irrespective of whether I or anyone else considers them worth having or not. It's the fact that these have been put into circulation without being advertised that bothers me most.
secretive? these are available at POW to fans who genuinely have an interest in the movement and make the effort to go have a look, rather than on the site for touts with software.....
i like these, paul has put a lot of work into these and i think, although not everything works, they are very interesting and well priced.
i'll agree that the 3D pieces were disappointing but IMO these don't fall into that category.
