These largely make me think of a masculine take on Lucy McLauchlan. However It certainly shows he has a range and that is never a bad thing.
Something there is no denying is the man can draw.

I should have made it more clear. The paintings will be based on the two winning sketches but will have much more colour to them much like those on the get your art out thread

But I think Doc's work, in the main, is teriffic - so easy on the eye and relatively compelling too, if you're very aesthetically focussed, as I am.
These sketches are more like prep' works than paintings, so to compare directly is pointless imo. His line definitly reminds me of Lucy McLauchlan and at times, in some pieces, of Neate. I'd like to see him vary his subject matter a bit, which he seems as if he's already starting to do. Eventually, whenever he feels ready, I'd love to see him venture towards trying a few other media too. I don't think there's any rush to change though, as his work will hopefully progress naturally, the more of it he does. Looking good imo - I'm a fan!

Top one, 'Lost For Words' 36x24inch Acrylic, Emulsion, Gloss, Enamel, Paint Marker and Spraypaint on Canvas
Bottom one, 'Working Things Out' 36x24inch Acrylic, Emulsion and Spraypaint on Canvas.
