Barcode Canvas coming up @ Dreweatts...., by johnnyh on Nov 10, 2013 7:09:40 GMT 1, !!!Pretty shocked at the price estimate for the print. It's half of the barcode canvas estimate which is pretty daft to me. One is a unique original and the other is a small edition print. One is an iconic Banksy image and the the other is well yeh it's alright. It will be daft if it sells at that price which is the price of an edition end canvas all of which I reckon have better images and are original. This has a perceived extra value as unseen but it is seen now so that's gone, small exclusive edition yes, but that's minor in comparison to a small edition canvas most of which are smaller editions. As say do not dislike the image but it's not mega iconic for me to justify that price in comparison to other works by him and you can only compare him with him as it were. I reckon at best it's worth half that amount in comparison to other Banksy pieces and prices. But if it goes for that this could see his prices go off the scale especially if Barcode does well. But I have a feeling this won't sell as it's overpriced and it's Dreweats.
although could be a crafty pitch if both are same owner. Eg at 200k the barcode still looks a bargain.... !!!

Barcode Canvas coming up @ Dreweatts...., by illicey on Nov 10, 2013 9:40:32 GMT 1, I would have to agree with Wiz. For double the estimate the Barcode offers a much better buy (be interested to see what it goes for). As for the stencil, it seems to be the same one as the print run and different from the edition of 5. Personally I prefer the editioned canvas as the barcode and leopard are larger against the back drop and I prefer the white , however a unique barcode is something special.

Barcode Canvas coming up @ Dreweatts...., by Deleted on Nov 10, 2013 11:13:39 GMT 1, Are you thinking of having a cheeky bid Wiz? LOL and LOL again. Wish i could Plip. However, on the off chance that everyone looking at it will think its out of their reach and therefore wont make a bid on do you reckon its worth stretching myself to a slightly cheeky bid of 50 quid?, if not then i could just run in and swipe it? im sure Sothebys insurance is up to scratch.
edit: I am not condoning the theft of any artwork in any way.

Barcode Canvas coming up @ Dreweatts...., by silvermyn on Nov 10, 2013 13:12:23 GMT 1, A/P's are a bit weird, easy pass for me. It's got nothing to do with the price at all
It does make me think about what other "VIP" prints are lurking out there... and whether there is VIP queing overnight and if VIP fights break out when someone pushed in at the front.

We had a talk about this AP in this thread too. This print is numbered AP 9/16. In a total edition they don't count the AP's/PP's/VIPS right? So there are 16 AP's in total for this print. Why would there be 16 AP's sold to VIP's? What happened with the 'Normal' edition then?

Why would there be 16 AP's sold to VIP's? What happened with the 'Normal' edition then? Banksy isn't just an artist, he's a publisher. He's able to print practically anything these days and can command whatever he wants for them. He publishes stuff he likes and shelves the ones he's not too keen on. I'm sure there are some screen prints that he and POW have produced in the past that will probably never see the light of day. My feeling is he pulled the remainder of the LA prints because he was less than impressed with there overall production. After all Modern Multiples had to seriously rush them through in order to meet the deadline for his Barely Legal show. One of the intended images 'Custardized Oil' was shelved because logistically it was impossible to produce within the time constraints. Again with the Gorilla, I think he was unimpressed with that one too and subsequently pulled it. Some screen prints are produced in very small numbers first anyway i.e, artist and printer proofs. Some that were intended for a 'normal' run simply didn't get that far. My guess is he's happy to offer these out to his VIP list or maybe he just prefers to print smaller editions at much higher prices in order to avoid violent overnight queues these days. I'm pretty sure 'I Hate Mondays' was another small screen print run of 16 that also went out to VIP's. Can't prove it, but I know a few people on here have good knowledge of its existence.

Barcode Canvas coming up @ Dreweatts...., by kbfrombk on Nov 14, 2013 14:45:22 GMT 1, I'd say maybe a compliment to a print to refuse forcing its joining an MBW on a wall.
In frame: print is happy :-) Being hung: getting happier :-) :-)
Looking left, seeing MBW: forever sad.

I think £130k for this image at this size is a great price for the buyer, assuming the condition was good. I would say that I am not sure I would have placed this with DNFA if I was the seller.

Do they really have a 36%+ premium or is that including artist resale rights or whatever? I know the lesser auction houses are outrageous fee wise but that sounds a bit high.
Edit: I just saw elsewhere that it was just shy of 118k all in (probably not including artist resale rights) which is closer to a 25% premium which makes more sense. twitter.com/DreweattsBlooms

Barcode Canvas coming up @ Dreweatts...., by johnnyh on Dec 6, 2013 15:15:43 GMT 1, I would think the figs are real. Hope the pieces are they seem and look legit but you never can tell. Be interesting to know who they came from eg might be a collector that some of e people there know so believe in their provenance. unusual to see so may street pieces at one auction. Funny auction in that all quite low priced items with the exception of these so could be dodgy

Barcode Canvas coming up @ Dreweatts...., by Shoot Again on Dec 8, 2013 2:57:20 GMT 1, That's the problem for small people like me, I knew I'd be bound to compete and lose against galleries ;-( They don't really care how far they have to push, they just know they can increase their asking price by whatever they want/need once they offer it for sale the next day ! Last Barcode I tried was won by Andipa (only to resell it back at £120K) and now this never-heard-of Dutch one ! Such a shame, I'm gutted (even though I knew the outcome even before the auction started) ;-(
