Slinkachu copycat in Daily Mail, by Cornish Crayon on Aug 19, 2013 11:45:27 GMT 1, So if I pop down my local model shop, and pick up a couple of model railway figures go home paint them, place one on a brick wall with a lovely background, download a tilt shift app on my phone macro it up a bit, snap a shot Send it off to the media till somebody who hasn't heard of slinkachu thinks its great....... Then I watch the money roll in, yes?
Failing that I'll buy one of those cool stencils off the bay and see if the local media think that Mr B has passed thru........
Carry on......

Slinkachu copycat in Daily Mail, by ilmambo on Aug 19, 2013 13:35:25 GMT 1, I don't think it's a copycat, there are a lot of other artists/photographers that are doing these kind of works, just because they use the same medium (scale models) it doesn't mean it's a copycat, since the images are all different. Slinkachu "little people" project started in 2006, I'm pretty sure that before that someone else had the same idea and probably did it at home just for fun experimenting with photography.
Minimiam for example, even if they mostly did studio shots with food and not outdoor. www.minimiam.com
They published some works in 2003, this means that Slinkachu is a copycat too now?

Slinkachu copycat in Daily Mail, by eskay on Aug 20, 2013 12:39:03 GMT 1, "I stand corrected', said the man in orthapaedic shoes...
I think it's because my personal experience of this type of art started with Slinkachu (I did also like the more recent Cauty Jars) and so, having bought some of his work, I suppose I almost feel protective of it. I understand that artistic concepts can be interpreted and presented in different ways but I do still think the execution of Roy's art is VERY similar to ol' Slinky.

Slinkachu copycat in Daily Mail, by Strange Al on Aug 20, 2013 13:07:55 GMT 1, Now of course intellectual property laws don't generally protect styles, ideas, themes, mediums, or methods of execution and, in a legal sense, I don't imagine there is direct copying here. I also wholly agree that there are plenty of other artists who work with miniatures, many long before either Roy or Slinkachu. Plus, I really like some of Roy's images.
Though, I do have to question whether Roy is more than a little inspired by Slinkachu's work. Indeed, of the other artist's mentioned in the thread, Roy's and Slink's work seems most alike to me. Moreover, I remember seeing Roy's works on Ebay some months back, whilst searching for Slinkachu. A seller with the name of "RT Gallery" was selling them and had included "Slinkachu, Banksy and Faile" in the auction description. Now it could be a pure coincidence, but it wouldn't suprise me to find that RT Gallery is in fact Roy. Given his love for street art, Roy may well be on the forum too, so it would be interesting to hear his views on the subject.

Slinkachu copycat in Daily Mail, by Dibbs 45 on Aug 20, 2013 17:48:53 GMT 1, Roy has taken it further than just photographs of Miniature people in different settings. Check out his Butterfly stuff on Roys People on FB. I'm sure he is fully aware of the comparisons with Slinkachu. I love Slinkachu but as James mentioned you would need to spend an arm and leg to get one.
