I won't be going for this myself, I think Roam Couch is an incredible artist and his stencil work is something else but I'll stick with my Rainbow Inc prints for now.

You could knock his originality for often sticking with his city theme, but he's talented and produces something of substance not just whatever is popular and will sell. I'm not sure if it was on here or elsewhere but I once read he has health issues that prohibit him from travel and his works of other cities are how he experiences the world, which if accurate is pretty awesome and puts the repetition in some context. But even if not for that, compare him to whatson or chevier maybe but I can't see any similarity to brainwash.

That's well put met. Never tried to put it into words myself, but this comes really close to my feelings towards his work as well. That contradiction in his work has resulted in me often coming close to pull the trigger, yet to this date, I still have passed each and every single time.. Maybe one day..

This guy has some sick skills and deserves a lot more credit than a lot of the so called 'artists' heavily promoted here.

His skills are absolutely stunning and I think this image is probably his best so far..like it more than Emotional Rain.. the water reflection is unreal knowing that's actually a stencil piece..of course he can find more edgy subjects but hey this is Roamcouch..:-)

Emotional Rain is still my fav piece by Roamcouch but this is a pretty close second.

He seems to follow the same direction as nick walker and his morning after series. I like this image like the rest of you. Can't get over the fact this look a little hallmark for me though (just like his other works). Agree he got great skills - if only he uses it on some other subject matters.

Undeniably talented, great skills and "sweet" image - but your comment re "Hallmark" rings true to me.

It's actually an original on paper (edition of 15) so each one is unique.

Got the email for this and have to agree with comments about image selection and no doubting the skill involved. His career has been a bit of a slow burn with his starry starry night images. I can see why people like his image but it's not for me and don't think it's “intriguingly tragic" whatever that means. Care to enlighten us professor MET.

I think I get met's point - 'he's very skillful but his subject matter is guff'. Whilst I think 'tragic' is a little overstated, I do agree it would be nice to see him apply his skills to produce something slightly edgier.

That said, I don't believe all art needs to be thought provoking. Sometimes, things can simply look nice. This isn't my cup of tea but its wall friendly and I can see why it would appeal.

The older work (on the earlier link) and this secret print show a different side to his oeuvre but Disney Princesses with spray cans, Hurst Dots, or Mickey Mouse with money can't really qualify as edgy, nor particularly original. That said I've never seen anyone else use Police Academy as subject matter!
