Rebecca Westcott @ Nat Portrait Gallery, Wash DC , by snausages on Nov 4, 2009 4:50:19 GMT 1, Westcott was an up and coming outsider artist and died tragically at 28 years. Her work will soon be on view at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC. Read full story here: spectorspector.com/gallery/2009/rebeccawestcottnpg/index.html
In October of 2004, Rebecca Westcott was a 28 year old artist just hitting her stride. She had recently been awarded the prestigious Pew Fellowship in the Arts for her honest and pared down portraits of twenty something peers and friends. She was one of its youngest recipients to date. The exhibition, โPortraiture Now: Communitiesโ at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC, is the first exhibition of her work since her untimely death that year.
4 prints have been released to coincide with the show. (The print "Jim" is of Jim Houser, who shows at Jonathan Levine and who was her husband)
The 4 prints are $325 and rather large. Ed. of 68
My faves, will have to try and get to DC to see them again. I really wanted to buy one of these paintings. I think they were only about $800-1000 for these which I would spend in a heartbeat now but I was rather poor way back when
