ARDIF - Print Release - 6th of December , by Pretty Portal on Dec 4, 2023 21:37:39 GMT 1,
Dear board members,
This Wednesday, 6th of December at 4pm (CET), we will be releasing the latest screen print edition "Cat Mechanimal" from ARDIF at shop.prettyportal.de.
ARDIF has chosen a "classic" mechanimal with a clear separation between the mechanical and naturalistic parts for this print edition. The edition was printed in our in-house screen printing studio with five print layers. The elaborate printing process brings out the details and shading of the graphics even better. As usual, the edition was printed on handmade paper from the English paper manufacturer Somerset.
The edition will be released in three versions:
ARDIF Cat Mechanimal 5 color screen print on Somerset Satin hand moulded paper with deckled edges (270g/m) 74x64cm Edition of 30 200€
ARDIF Cat Mechanimal (emerald) 5 color screen print on Somerset Satin hand moulded paper with deckled edges (270g/m) 74x64cm Edition of 30 200€
ARDIF Cat Mechanimal (topaz) 6 color screen print on Somerset Satin hand moulded paper with deckled edges (270g/m) 74x64cm Edition of 30 250€

Opening this Friday: ENIGMA - a duo show by SAM3 & REMED, by Pretty Portal on Nov 14, 2023 18:41:11 GMT 1,
Dear board members,
this Friday, 17th of November we are opening the exhibition ENIGMA in which we are showing new works by the artists REMED and SAM3. We are delighted to present these two artists, who have long been part of the gallery's programme, together in a duo show. Both REMED and SAM3 are among the early representatives of the still young art movement.
Send me a PM with your mail address to receive the collectors preview of the show.
For the exhibition, the two artists, who have known and appreciated each other for a long time, painted together on various works and explored the intersection of their artistic scope. The result is three canvases that unite the visual languages of the two artists in a marvellous way and create something completely new in an exciting way. In addition to the canvases, a series of sketches have been created to accompany the ensemble of three works. Both artists are also showing a series of solo works.
REMED and SAM3 have a similar clear formal language, but use colours very differently. While SAM3 uses primarily black and white in a very reduced manner and with strong contrasts, REMED's works are very colourful. However, he usually refrains from mixing the colours and uses areas of colour next to each other. This gives the works a special luminosity through contrasts in the colour spectrum.
Visitors can expect timeless works that deal with philosophical concepts and utilise motifs and symbols from classical antiquity. As a result, they appear familiar and yet mystical and invite the viewer to reflect.

Fin Dac 🇮🇪 Finbarr Notte • New Print Release , by Pretty Portal on Mar 31, 2022 13:42:53 GMT 1,
Dear board members,
From April 8th we will show “Mixed Reality” with works by FinDAC, SKIO and Vermibus. We are very happy to have new works by FinDAC on display, and also to present with SKIO and Vermibus two new, very exciting artists. In their artworks all artists deal with beauty, aesthetics and their perception in our society.
Mixed reality encompasses environments or systems that mix the natural perception of a user with an artificial perception. This sounds a bit like science fiction. But if you look at the term in a less technical way, you quickly realize how intensively we are already confronted with mixed realities. Media, the tremendous flood of information made available to us by the Internet and of course social media put to the notion of what really is to test almost daily.
Send me PM with your mail address to receive the collectors preview (pdf) of the show.
Nothing is as it seems The three artists in the show “Mixed Reality” deal with these mixed realities. In his collages, FinDAC indeed shows “torn” protagonists, while combining different versions of the same thing. In doing so, he questions sexual stereotypes and colonial perceptions. SKIO observes everyday life becoming increasingly virtual due to the growing dominance of social media. In his paintings, he examines the uniformity that our society imposes on people and the demand for beauty that is imposed on women in particular. Vermibus also deals with ideals of beauty shaped by society and the media. He humanizes his previously de-personalized models by literally dissolving them and thus offers a sharp social criticism of the advertising and fashion industry.
On display are collages, paintings and analog manipulated photographies.
FinDAC, SKIO, Vermibus „Mixed Reality“ 8th of April – 13th of May Vernissage: 08th of April 7pm

Roman Klonek "Magic Box" , by Pretty Portal on Feb 23, 2022 16:23:51 GMT 1,
Dear board members,
From February 25th we will be showing new works from Roman Klonek in his show “Magic Box”. Almost three years after his last solo exhibition at Pretty Portal, Roman opens his magic box and conjures up a wonderful compilation of new works. Roman Klonek’s artworks show intoxicating, dreamlike worlds in which he tells stories of wild animals and anthropomorphic creatures. His stories take us into fluffy, absurd landscapes and repeatedly amaze us. Text elements in various types of writing, which are rather foreign to us, and which Roman, with a wink, calls oddity enhancers, round off his compositions. But not only Roman’s visual worlds are something very special. The process of the woodcut, which he uses to produce his works, also stands out and invites us to look at his work again and again.
Send me a PM with your mail address if you would like to receive the preview (pdf) of the show.
Roman Klonek „Magic Box“ 25th of .February – 1st of April Vernissage: 25th of Februar, 7pm
Born in Katowice, Poland, in 1969, Roman Klonekl studied visual communication and graphic desingn at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences in the early 1990s. He graduated from Harald Fuchs with a series of woodcuts that laid the foundation for his further development. In spirit, he sees himself connected to artists such as Fyodor Khitruk, Zdeněk Miler, Yoshitomo Nara and Takashi Murakami. He not only has experience in unusual character design, but also as the founder of a non-profit gallery (Galerie Revolver) in Düsseldorf, as a visiting professor in Mainz and as a lecturer in printmaking at the Würzburg University of Applied Sciences. "ENTER THE CIRCLE" groupshow (3rd of Dec), by Pretty Portal on Nov 30, 2021 20:10:14 GMT 1,
Dear board members,
At the end of the year we are showing "Enter the Circle", an exciting group show with a selection of artists who work graphically abstract and belong to the direction of Graffuturism. The special thing about it: All of the works in the exhibition are round.
Send me a PM with you mail address to receive the preview (pdf) of the show.
When talking to a literary friend about Nietzsche’s Zarathustra, of course, the well-known dialogue between Zarathustra and the dwarf came up, which deals with time, space and the moment. “Everything just lies,” muttered the dwarf contemptuously. All truth is crooked, time itself is a circle. ” The circle is often referred to as the mother of all forms, the perfect form, i.e. the platonic solid, the basic structure that has arisen directly from nature. Nevertheless, most of the pictures in contemporary art are painted on rectangular formats, as this form represents a more concrete boundary of the picture, a more closed surface. The circle has no corners, an infinite number of sides and no interior angles. A circular shape as a painting surface represents a new challenge for many artists.
In the exhibition “Enter the circle”, a selection of artists who work graphically abstract and belong to the direction of graffuturism, take on exactly this challenge. Works by CHAZME, ETNIK, Jana & Js, Jan Kalab, Marc C. Woehr, Patrick Hartl, Pavel Ryzko, RAWS, Sebastien Preschoux and Theo Lopez can be seen. Some of these artists use the shape of the circle as a delimitation for their works on a regular basis, some occasionally, some for the first time. In their work they reflect a wide variety of ideas and concepts. The artists find inspiration for their works in dealing with colors and shapes, in nature, in architecture and urban landscapes, in typography and graffiti. This creates visual languages that could hardly be more different. Some works gush with liveliness and spontaneity, some are clearly constructed and incredibly precise. The artists work with paint, acrylic, paper, wood and other materials.
Opening reception is on December 3rd. And the show can be seen until February 4th, 2022 in our gallery in Düsseldorf.

"Passing Through" show at Pretty Portal, by Pretty Portal on Oct 19, 2021 10:56:32 GMT 1,
Dear board members,
This Friday, 22nd of Oktober we will open the gates for the first show after the summer. I know, the summer is long gone, but COVID is not, and organizing an art event is still not like it was before. On display are new works from Guy Denning, who is well known since the early Bristol days, and Alexis "Bust" Stephens, a new artist in our portfolio, who receives strong attention from French collectors and connoisseurs of the urban art scene since a few years. Both artists focus on human figures and show, among other things, dancers in their works For a long time now there will also be a Vernissage, which starts at 7pm. If you are around I would be happy to meet you at the gallery.
Send me a PM with your mail address to receive the preview (PDF) of the show.

Ardif 🇨🇵 Street Artist • New Print Release , by Pretty Portal on Apr 26, 2021 17:04:03 GMT 1, Dear board members,
On April 30th we will finally open the long-awaited ARDIF show. It is not yet clear whether we will be allowed to let visitors into the gallery for the opening, but since everything currently seems to be in the stars, we would like to finally put an end to the wait. Like probably many of you, I am very much looking forward to this exhibition.
Send me a PM with you mail address to receive the catalog of the show.
ARDIF & Friends “Realm of ancient Mechanimals” ARDIF’s creations are modern mythical creatures. Cyborgs, hybrid creatures of a biological organism and a Machina Obscura, a surreal symbiosis of medieval architecture and ancient mechanics. The machine part, which captivates the eye of the beholder with its multitude of details, romanticizes the first rather dystopian impression of the composition. Fabulous beings have always been creatures whose outward appearance is shaped by human imagination. Many have their origins in the real world and are influenced by contemporary history. It is the same with ARDIF’s creations. The more and more unbalanced relationship between humans and nature, which in the short term represents a threat to our planet, but in the long term rather a threat to our species, is reflected impressively with the French urban artist works. But the increasing mechanization of our everyday life, digitization and the dawn of the age of machines are also reflected in his works.
Mythical creatures also convey the ancient stories of mankind in a mystical way. In the exhibition “Realm of ancient Mechanimals”, ARDIF takes up these ancient stories and adds another narrative level to his fabulous animals. His creations have their origins in the myths and folklore of the most diverse cultures. His realm of the ancient Mechanimals includes the Japanese Kitsune, a multi-tailed masked fox that is considered a lucky charm, the Greek Pegasus, the winged horse that stands for wisdom and poetry, or a Jackalope, a hybrid of hare and pronghorn, which is very popular on the North American continent.
For an even more extensive discussion of the topic, ARDIF has invited four artist friends to join the discourse. In the process, collaborations have arisen, which extends the french artists view by the individual perspectives of the artist group formed for this exhibition. This group consists of Dzia, Horor, Parvati and Sandrot.
The Belgian painter Dzia dismantles the animals he paints with geometric free forms into a kind of mosaic, which follows the contours of the animals shape. His unmistakable line can be found in countless murals around the world. Recent projects have taken him to China, Norway and Spain. Dzia, who graduated from the Royal Academy in Antwerp with a Masters in Fine Arts, chose a winged cat for his contribution to the exhibition, which can be found in the mythology of North Africa.
Horor found his way to art in early 2000 as a graffiti writer. After completing his studies in fine arts at the Sorbonne, he did not forget his roots, but developed a mix of typography and painting. In his visual language he skilfully combines the influences from the streets of the Parisian suburbs and a classical repertoire discovered at the academy. His works show influences from sensual surrealism, contemporary illustration and naturalistic drawing. Stylistically, they are characterized by calligraphic-inspired lines that flow through his creations in a wave-like, rhythmic manner.
The hybrid characters of the French-Indian artist Parvati are a mixture of human and bird. They open the door to a poetic dream that questions the relationship between the bizarre and the beautiful as well as the demarcation between humans and animals. In addition to the fauna, the flora is omnipresent in her works. This echoes the Amazonian forests in French Guiana where she was born and raised. Parvati is inspired by the great masters of the Renaissance. This is also reflected in the painting technique she uses. She paints her figures exclusively in oil, while acrylic spray paints are mainly used in the backgrounds. Like ARDIF, she often uses paste-ups for her interventions in public space, i.e. works prepared in the studio, anthropomorphic birds on a human scale, which she then sticks in the streets.
Sandrot is a contemporary French artist painter. Passionate about painting since her childhood, she creates artworks mainly focused on animal subjects. Often associated with artistic movements such as pop art or urban art, Sandrot draws her inspiration from nature in order to create artworks that raise awareness of the animal cause and support environmental protection associations. Inspired by wild fauna, her artworks are recognizable by the realism, the attitude and the gaze of subjects. Her affection for large formats enabled her to create many frescoes. For the exhibition, she worked with ARDIF on an African elephant, which is a symbol of wisdom, power and dignity on its continent.

MONKEYBIRD "L´Apparat" Screen print on Hahnemühle 1584 (300gsm) 59 × 75 cm, Edition of 42 signed, numbered & embossed 300€
The French duo crew, based in Paris, has progressed hugely in the last couple of years and has brought to the public, some jaw dropping, wall creations and installations as well as stunning gallery shows.
Monkeybird´s work show a search for balance between dreams and reality. Loaded with symbols and allegries, their pieces are an emotional and rational discussion about human progress. The artists try to follow the ancestor’s knowledge and adapt it to reach the modern citizens mind, with symbolic pictures. Monkeybird are inspired by ephemeral monumentality, religious and mythological paintings and art nouveaux.
The two artists met in the street of Bordeaux in 2009. One of them was looking for a change in his graffiti and the other a change in framework and identity. With a background in graphic design, as well as object and industrial design they developed an artistic aesthetic, which contains technique-driven stenciling. collages, spray painting, drawing, carving, silkscreen printing and engraving.

L.E.T. "How is this happening !?" , by Pretty Portal on Dec 23, 2020 21:23:12 GMT 1, I watched the very powerful video on Vimeo. Pretty Portal do you know if Azim has made it to Germany to see his family? Also how has the exhibition been received and has it had publicity and caused discussion locally? I think it looks like LET in a very powerful, but sympathetic way has done well drawing attention to this tragedy without aestetisizing other people’s pain and misery ( which is always a very fine line to tread). No, Azim is still in the camp. L.E.T. is in frequent contact with him.
The local feedback on the show is pretty strong. Everyday many people pass by to see the installation through the gallery window. While I was working in the second room of the gallery people showed me a thumbs, when I had a bit of eye contact. People make IG stories and I received many positive mails.
The show was featured in Widewalls Magazine recently: www.widewalls.ch/magazine/let-installation-pretty-portal
