WTS Conor Harrington - Worm in the Suburban..., by rrrich on Jan 20, 2010 15:27:30 GMT 1, Hi, got one in the tube still (taken out to have a look at and then put back). In mint condition and not going to get framed so just looking for offers around recent eBay prices (c£150).
Any questions about it, just let me know. I'm based in central London so can meet. Will post in the UK, rather not do international. Thanks.

Damien Hirst - 'With Dead Head', by rrrich on Jan 15, 2010 10:30:42 GMT 1, The difference between the pictures is really down to what the images represent and their impact on the viewer. Consider that the Abu Graib photos really brought to light and highlighted the contradictions in the US's policy of supposed liberation of Iraq. The intention of spreading democracy, a US version of 'universal' human rights, pretty much went out the window when these came to light. There was no artistic element to these photos (ok, it's questionable if people would agree there is with Damien Hirst's photo), but the Abu Graib photos were snapshots of torture and human rights abuses by invading and occupying military forces that were increasingly being viewed as neo-imperialist. The political impact across the Middle East and the rest of the world was huge. Far more than a picture of a kid next to a severed head.
For the Hirst print, 2k for it seems unsurprising for him. For me and a lot of people, it's bad taste rather than art.

Your best buy of 2009! , by rrrich on Dec 15, 2009 13:42:26 GMT 1, not bought too much this year (tho got my VLH framed...) but even if I'd bought a heap of prints including NBG, my favourite is Jose Parla's WTL. Can't wait to get it framed and hung.
been banned from buying anything until credit cards are paid off now!

Banksy - No Ball Games (GREEN), by rrrich on Dec 14, 2009 12:53:05 GMT 1, it doesn't take a huge leap of logic to assume the two editions will be the same size does it? it doesnt take an equally huge leap of logic to presume its an edition of 750, making a round 1000, giving the onliners much more of a chance of bagging a print, and making the print many queued for hours for slightly more desirable??? but was wondering if anyone knew?
from the grey thread, i spoke to pow on friday who confirmed that the green has the same run and price as the grey. not sure if it will be only 230 available in the lottery tho.

SHOP AT LAZARIDES, by rrrich on Dec 11, 2009 11:53:18 GMT 1, the JR favela print was originally £300, inc vat. they stopped selling it not long after it went on sale and it came back in the shop at £500. now £700 through the website.
id agree that the prices are getting ridiculous. theres a kelsey brookes print up there that's more than an original sketch. the print is now back up at POW for £95.

Aboriginal Art, by rrrich on Dec 10, 2009 0:03:28 GMT 1, i was over in australia this summer and went along to a couple of exhibitions. favourite by far and whose work ive really loved ever since is the photography of ricky maynard. he's a torres straits islander who photographs aboriginal communities. latest work, portrait of a distant land, is just fantastic and you can get it through the stills gallery: www.stillsgallery.com.au/artists/maynard/. if youre interested in some of the prints, ive got some of the prices. if you want a cheaper introduction, the latest catalogue/book costs around AU$90 shipped to the uk.
if you want a serious collection, the ian potter centre in melbourne - part of the national gallery of victoria - has an excellent, though young collection of indigenous aboriginal art. www.ngv.vic.gov.au/ngvaustralia/. a bit of looking around seems you can find some of the artists they have in their collection with work still available online at reasonable prices.

José Parlá Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by rrrich on Dec 7, 2009 14:36:25 GMT 1, Just back from picking mine up. Had a friend get one on the day, just in case they were gone by today as I was out of the country. Went for World Touring Letter and though biased, I liked it by far and away the most. Really vibrant colours and the detail up close is excellent. Love the overruns too onto the border. Can't wait to get it on the wall. Credit card gets to take even more of a hammering!
The John Jones pricelist is useful as it has a spec for the framing, so if anyone wants tips and doesn't have it, let me know and I can pm the details.
