Banksy vs Warhol Exhibition cards (Flying Copper), by bonesy on Mar 3, 2024 7:36:18 GMT 1, I think the point of saying this isnโt legit was just pointing out the fact that this isnโt from a legit Banksy exhibit, like a showcard from 2006 Barely Legal which was an actual Banksy exhibit. Banksy had nothing to do with this show.

Bast, by bonesy on May 26, 2023 12:13:17 GMT 1, My favorite artist. Iโve for sure spent more time looking for new images online of his work than anyone else over the years, and I still come across new ones- he put a lot of work into the streets. Long shot at this point for him gaining a ton of new attention though unless Brooklyn Museum or someone did a retrospective.

Banksy + Clown Skateboards, by bonesy on Sept 27, 2022 9:47:40 GMT 1, Looking quickly at Clown skateboards IG it looks like the old posts about the original acetates being locked up in a vault never to be used again have been deleted. Not a shocker, Iโll keep waiting until I can get a basic deck for retailโฆโฆ. Itโll happen once their whole limited edition, printer proofs, continuing the original run of 150 etc bullshit has run its course. You clearly did look very quickly... http://instagr.am/p/CGe0RGhl8hB They can and will continue to use their logo. The size also looks different on the new decks compared to the Test Press release. I did though, youโre reference doesnโt say anything about โlocked up in the vault never to be used againโ That little statement was posted many places when they originally โcontinuedโ the test press series and now I donโt see it anywhere on their IG posts or website.
Itโs still on page 1 of this thread

Phillips Art Auctions โข New York, Hong Kong & London, by bonesy on Apr 8, 2022 23:00:33 GMT 1, Phillips spoke up in support of Ukraine followed by a huge donation- shouldnโt we be supporting Russian owned companies like this that are speaking up against Putin? The CEO of Bonhams auction house was one of the first to shout โboycott Phillips auction houseโ Are people really this short sighted? I guess someone is short-sighted - maybe it's you.ย Phillips' Russian owners, Leonid Friedland and Leonid Strunin, haven't said a word to defend Ukraine or condemn the actions of Russia. The company's English CEO made those statements. To be clear, the parent company is based in Moscow.ย
A prominent Russian owned company speaks up in support of Ukraine and makes a large donation to back it up, this is what puts pressure on Putin. If the owners were supporters of Putin they would not allow this.
You canโt just blindly hate on all companies with Russian ties. You need to look what steps the company is taking to separate themselves from Putin. Phillips has done this publicly.

Banksy + Clown Skateboards, by bonesy on Mar 17, 2022 19:58:02 GMT 1, And it looks like those original screens and acetates that were going to be locked up in the clown vault forever are being taken back out less than 2 years later. Itโs for a good cause, but they could have raised money without breaking their word.

โBanksyโ Los Angeles, by bonesy on Feb 26, 2022 8:25:38 GMT 1, Nominal fee? Boston is $70 a head to see way mostly screen prints, or $280 for a family of 4. This is the epitome of what Banksy is against. When B put on the LA show there were hundreds of originals, with a live elephant and a couple actors thrown in as well. He charged $0 admission. I went to one of the shows in 2019.ย Family pass was 32 Euros.ย
$280 does sound extraordinary.ย I took a quick look at the ticket website and it says tickets for children are $30 and adults $40.ย VIP tickets are $70, so your quote is kind of inflated.ย I note the location is Cambridge - right near Harvard, pretty high-rent district there.ย They could have put it in lower rent Southie and charged half as much, but then again it would get half the exposure.ย
I wonder how many shows B could put on for $0 before he was bankrupted...
www.banksyexhibit.com/boston/buy-tickets-boston/#/?month=2022-03
Weekday tickets are $40 and $55 Weekend tickets are $55 and mostly $70. Weekend vip is $110. But wait, then when you get to the checkout screen they add a service fee of $7 per ticket.
I donโt see why anyone would try to defend these exhibits. If you donโt see theyโre robbing you then I guess you are the one they are probably ripping off.

โBanksyโ Los Angeles, by bonesy on Feb 26, 2022 0:44:35 GMT 1, When an artist creates prints for sale, theyโre making money by doing so. The fact that B/PC has, in the past, said โWe have nothing to do with/donโt approve of this exhibitionโ with previous unauthorized B exhibits, is very telling. Imho the art scene will be just fine without these assholes taking advantage of artistsโ creative work/careers to line their pockets. Have you ever looked into who is putting these "unauthorized" exhibits on and who started them?ย Interesting cast of characters there.ย Makes the show look less UNauthorized.ย If B were taking credit for them openly everyone would assert he is a money-grubbing self-promoting Capitalist.ย As the shows are, someone else takes that wrap.ย The ticket prices are pretty nominal considering the venues that are being rented out.ย The amount of exposure he gets from these traveling shows is unbelievable.ย
Seriously, what elevates you more, you putting on your own show, a gallery putting on a show accessible only to the very few who can afford your work, OR a show put on by people who so adore your work that they figure it NEEDS to be out there, even in an 'unauthorized' manner that everyone and their sister can see for a nominal ticket price?ย ย
Its also very nice to see the original work up close, to see signatures, to compare what you see on here, little nuances like the positioning of splatter marks on different screen prints and how they correspond to other B prints you have seen, take photographs, compare, etc...but that's just me.

Selling art pieces, by bonesy on Feb 16, 2022 2:36:52 GMT 1, Just wanted a list of places people use to sell art? There's art brokerage - terrible customer service Artsy - minimum $2000 price piece, and 25% cut of the sale Ebay - risk of seller claiming damage or not received Heritage auction - Need to sell total of $5000 worth of goods. Any other websites at all? In particular ones I can use to sell art worth $500-1000 I think a lot of people over estimate the risks with eBay. Insure the package and require a signature upon delivery nearly eliminates risk on the sellers end all together. That being said, here, eBay, and heritage are generally my go to for both buying and selling.
I havenโt sold anything on eBay in years but last I did fees were getting up there as well. I would guess fees to eBay and then PayPal (or whoever) youโre prob approaching approaching the Artsy number of 25% above right?

Faile โข Dog Prints, All Editions , by bonesy on Feb 4, 2022 0:34:19 GMT 1, Havenโt loved anything of theirs in a few years but I grabbed this one quick, I dig the play on the classic image. Pricing was where I expected given the edition size and these are gonna look great in person.

Banksy nft rips , by bonesy on Jan 24, 2022 19:30:12 GMT 1, So it states you will own a part of the physical artwork? Is this accurate? Will there be some kind of DAO that defines what to do with this piece? I haven't crunched the numbers but you pay US1k to get a 1/5000 stake in the art. Let's assume its valued at US $10 million. At that price, you would have received $2k return (not including auction house fees, etc.). Not bad, especially as prices ascend, if this is actually how it will work which I'm guessing it isn't. Rather you just own the NFT. Which is bullshit.
This piece was taken from the street so it would never get Pest Control cert so itโs value would never be anything near $10 million, not even anywhere close.

Shepard Fairey on Ebay, by bonesy on Jan 24, 2022 19:04:59 GMT 1, Are there really TONS of knock offs of signed & numbered recent Obey prints? They donโt sell for a ton, are they really being bootlegged? Not historically, and I don't believe now either.ย I wouldn't touch Obama or Liberte, but other than that would be fine picking up almost anything on ebay. There was one large format print that was booted back in the day, all with same numbering, but for the life of me I can't remember which one it was.ย I do know that it stood out because there had been so little bootlegging of Fairey.
I didnโt think so either Shepardโs signature has certainly evolved through the years but it is also extremely consistent given a point of time. If youโre looking for a 2010 print look at 2010 signatures and you should be able to have a comfort level that the print is legit, just confirm with the seller that you are receiving the actual print that is pictured in the listing.

Crypto currency winners investing in real art, not NFTs, by bonesy on Jan 6, 2022 16:05:07 GMT 1, This from The Guardian: "The global art market performed at record levels in 2021, with billions of dollars being paid for works by impressionist, postwar and contemporary artists, and much of it bought by people whose wealth comes from cryptocurrencies or other technologies."
www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2022/jan/02/crypto-tycoons-global-art-market-record-levels-2021Anyone else find it ironic that while many people areย being persuaded to invest real money in digital NFTs, many of those who made money from crypto and other digital technology are now investing it in real art?
I donโt find it ironic because NFTs are even more stupider than crypto

NFT Good or Bad for an Artists image?, by bonesy on Jan 4, 2022 15:22:58 GMT 1, The whole concept is about making money and not about just enjoying a digital image, a simple jpeg can provide that. With that said, I have no problem if a โfactory artistโ (Hirst, Murakami, etc) goes down this road as it falls in line with what they have always done. If a street artist that has preached about anti-capitalism, power to the people, their art is for everyone to enjoy, etc then I do find it very hypocritical.

Lottery for Right to Buy , by bonesy on Dec 29, 2021 2:34:08 GMT 1, White Nola was an ordinary drop, no lottery. I was happy enough to catch one in the cart and pay but was some hours later told that the print had oversold and they refunded me the cost... was I happy?! 2 days later I got a mail that said mr B had decided to do a special edition of 63, Grey Nola, to compensate us that was unlucky with POW server failure. Did I buy the Grey Nola?
I got a similar email after buying a signed Grannies that oversold- sure wish I got a follow-up email saying I was getting a grey editionโฆ..

Lottery for Right to Buy , by bonesy on Dec 23, 2021 22:32:22 GMT 1, Stop and search was lotto iirc No, it was a standard drop on the website during a Santa's ghetto.
Along with many other prints, that was a fun December. I remember a POW page with all of the prints which were going to be released online, but each day the exact prints & times of release were unknown. Long time ago, so some of these details could be wrong.
Nola was def a random drop but I think notice of some sort was given that morning.

Cheapest way to own a genuine banksy print, by bonesy on Dec 21, 2021 13:56:39 GMT 1, The traditional view is that a Gallery will charge 30-50% in margin and VAT where applicable. Historically the gallery model used to be double the cost and add VAT but there is a lot more competition so margins have reduced. Inflation in the traditional and more mature parts of the art market is typically 5-10%, so this is the guideline I always advise people when looking to buy art, expect to be in profit in 5 years. Banksy, as we all know, has been different as his work has seen a higher % growth and as a long term investment it has been a huge success. Whilst this will continue, despite the soft decline this year, as a rule of thumb always buy with prudent expectations and if it does better than that, well done you!! Most important of all though buy something that you enjoy owning and looking at, art should be seen and not talked about only as an investment.
I would never advise people to โexpectโ artwork to increase in value 5% to 10% per year.

Cheapest way to own a genuine banksy print, by bonesy on Dec 21, 2021 2:26:08 GMT 1, Typically buying from a Gallery will take 5 or so years for a print to be worth what you paid for it (dealers margin) as a general rule of thumb) Good luck!

Banksy + Clown Skateboards, by bonesy on Dec 15, 2021 15:56:56 GMT 1, This print and deck set is driving funds for In Action details below: www.clownskateboards.com/inactionWe have priced it to raise as much money for the cause as possible. Although some donโt agree with the pricing, we have had an overwhelming response and are delighted with the feedback of both Clown Skateboard fans and collectors of Urban art. Unfortunately we have also had some abuse from a very small group of people that think itโs acceptable to slander Clowns good work and be rude to our staff. As the main goal for the release is to help underprivileged kids we have deleted hateful comments on our Instagram page. Thank you so much to everyone who has emailed in. we are working through the emails as we speak and should get back to everyone today, as you can imagine it may take a while with the amount we have received. How much of the ยฃ8k is going to the charity?
Clown site says donation is minimum 33% So yeah, theyโre only pocketing over ยฃ5k per print

Banksy + Clown Skateboards, by bonesy on Dec 13, 2021 19:49:50 GMT 1, Looks like Stowe Gallery has removed its Instagram page. Probably a smart move on their part so their customer base cannot be informed by people in the comments section.

Banksy Bristol TShirt โข Colston Four, by bonesy on Dec 11, 2021 18:24:52 GMT 1, There were 300 for each shop apparently And how many shops then? Doesn't sound like "highly limited" to me. To be fair his market didn't need this easy to fake merch products.
I donโt think he cares if this is faked- he would say something along the lines of โitโs a bloody tshirtโ and he would be right
