Where to buy quality art posters?, by Friendly Ghost on Jun 11, 2023 19:09:18 GMT 1, I haven’t bought a poster of a classic art piece in many years, but need to buy someone a copy of Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss. Can anyone point me to a good place that sells high-quality posters (decent paper, colors, etc.)?

Visit São Paulo 🇧🇷 Brazil Street Art, Galleries & Events, by Friendly Ghost on Jan 8, 2023 16:48:28 GMT 1, Thanks Hoops, dotdot, and jp, for the ideas and advice. We’re visiting my wife’s family down there, and she speaks some Portuguese, so we should be okay language-wise. Safety, of course, is harder to figure out, from all the stories we hear. But hopefully her family can provide some guidance on that front.
We’ll definitely check out Batman Alley… and I’ll look into the gallery and start going through artists to see if there are particular ones we want to contact.
Thanks again! And if anyone else has additional ideas, they’d be much appreciated!

Visit São Paulo 🇧🇷 Brazil Street Art, Galleries & Events, by Friendly Ghost on Jan 7, 2023 20:09:53 GMT 1, My wife, kid (5 year old), and I are headed down to Brazil this summer. We’ll be in São Paulo for a week and Rio for a week, and wanted to check if anyone knew of a really good street art tour in either place… or if there are particular galleries we HAVE to check out?
Apologies if I’ve missed a thread already covering this…
Any help would be much appreciated.

Authenticating a RETNA piece?, by Friendly Ghost on Jun 2, 2021 4:51:09 GMT 1, With help from a friendly forum member, I’m now suspecting the piece likely is just “in the style of” Retna and is probably not authentic. Thanks to folks who weighed in.

Authenticating a RETNA piece?, by Friendly Ghost on Jun 1, 2021 21:50:11 GMT 1, A friend of mine has lucked his way into a large canvas that appears to be by Retna. But there is no provenance, no paperwork, or anything. It isn't signed, but it does look like an original work, and certainly looks like Retna.
Does anyone know the best way to authenticate a Retna piece? Is there a way to contact him directly, or is there a gallery that represents him?
Any help would be much appreciated...

Your latest Art Purchase?, by Friendly Ghost on Jan 27, 2019 6:52:39 GMT 1, Super excited about this new piece from Nathan Ford, from his show that’ll be opening at Beaux Arts in Bath in late February. Have seen him mentioned a few times on the Forum, but I love the way he’s integrating his kid’s drawings into his urban streetscapes as graffiti, and thought other folks might be interested. (There’s a good timelapse video about a recent project with students here:

Various signed prints by Russ Mills aka BYROGLYPHICS, by Friendly Ghost on Aug 17, 2018 18:14:03 GMT 1, Don’t really have any interest in getting involved in the back and forth that this guy’s posts seem to generate, but figured I should post my experience here.
I had been looking for a Russ Mills “Tatsta” print for ages, so when this sales post came up, I jumped on it. The guy responded quickly and politely and we agreed on a fair price that I sent to him by Paypal with no real checking up on him. I figured “who would go to so much trouble just to scam someone out of 50 GBP?”
Then after I made the payment I saw all of the subsequent posts about the guy’s identity and history and I naturally was worried. I finally had to just stop reading the threads, and even told my wife I’d probably gotten conned out of a little money. But the payment was already sent and he had been perfectly nice in the back and forth on PM, so I just kept my fingers crossed and hoped for the best.
As it turned out, it all went just fine. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the print came through quickly and as promised, and the guy was totally friendly and considerate in his messages.
I have no idea what the deal was with the earlier sales threads, but I figured I’d go ahead and let people know that my dealing with him, for what it's worth, was smooth and trouble-free.

For Sale: Ian Francis, Brett Amory originals; Parla signed book, by Friendly Ghost on Mar 30, 2018 3:48:29 GMT 1, Thanks! I’ve always liked that it is less pornographic than much of his other work (though I know that may be a negative for some), but still very much his style. And I get a kick out of the fact that it’s called ‘Three People Escape on a Lifeboat’ but only two people are fully drawn...

Orange Art (The colour, NOT the Fruit), by Friendly Ghost on Sept 21, 2017 14:00:21 GMT 1, I'm a big fan of Christo's Gates drawings. He and his partner Jeanne Claude installed 7500-some big saffron colored "gates" along the paths of NY's Central Park and turned the whole park into a giant art exhibit. It was amazing and had the color orange right at the heart of it.
The prints and drawings he released to help fund the project are large and pretty affordable.
You can see a few of them, along with photos, here...
